Of the two new young full-backs that we have, I have been more impressed with Ben George's defending - he is solid and dependable. However, Benning is probably more expansive, energetic and gets up and down the flanks. As a consequence, he can get caught out of position if we lose the ball - he is also very light-weight (but so was Ashley Young at his age so don't be disheartened if you're reading this, Malvind!). Avoiding the obvious comebacks, I would like to think that supporters who watch the reserves regularly might agree but Benning is a little like Netan Sensara although he probably gets his head up to play it to a team-mate more often.
Of the rumours that I have read, I would be really pleased with James Chambers; I also think that Ryan Green is a good shout - both are experienced and affordable with local roots. They could really help to bring on the young boys - this could make a nice balance assuming that they steer clear of injuries (which is always a risk in the kind of market that we can shop in - cue further jokes)
The only player that I would not like to see of the recent rumours is Rowan Vine - Sam Parkin alert, Parkin alert, BEEP BEEP BEEP (sound of ten-ton truck reversing slowly).
I would be much happier with Arquin and McLeod (using the Ledesma wages on the latter) - a long shot, I know, but an established goalscorer would make a hell-of-a-difference and might even turn Dean Smith's workmanlike, solid sides into a half-decent outfit.
The question is, 'How bothered is Bonser' (Geoff Bonser is an anagram of 'Beg offers: no' which neatly sums up our transfer policy I think)?
