If it ended like this then oh well, they have made up for this by winning the last two games as well as county.

Disappointing defeat in many ways but onwards and upwards for a difficult fixture on Saturday against a PNE side who beat Hartlepool 5-0 tonight.

After Saturday we will have played 6 of the other 11 teams in the top half. That's a tough start for the opening 8 games! Will be interested to see where we are at the end of October when our fixtures will have evened out a bit. Shame about tonight, hopefully the players will stay confident.

Lost to a good side helped by a poor ref who evidently forgot to bring his cards.
Gonna thaw out with a couple of Jamesons and reflect on the game. Will post a report later.

Anyone going there looking for a result will have to play a certain way, by all accounts - a certain way we're not capable of.
The players earned the right to give it a right good go at their place tonight, but perhaps we can learn more about our side after tonight's game than we could have done against one of the more typical sides in our league.

Re: Stevenage Away - 18th September 2012 - League One
Not much in it really, in fact after we equalised I thought we were going to go on and win it.
Stevenage probably deserved the win in the end, as they carried more of a threat up front.
It was cold, autumn is definitely here.
Special mention goes to the idiots that booed when Grigg came on, well done.

Stevenage are a decent team, not much in it at all tho and we conceded the third when chasing the game. Played some nice stuff on the floor again so not that disheartened.
oh and can the few thick as pig crap so called "Fans" that booed Grigg before he even got on the pitch go to the Wolves or something. Thanks

Why don't you hope we win 3-0?:-?
;-)
I hoped we'd win 3-1, but I agree that even more I'd have hoped for 3-0. :) I was just being realistic, or so I thought. :?
As I expected and mentioned earlier, the game turned out to be a tough one for us, and the defeat was not a surprise to me, nor probably for a number of our UTS colleagues. Disappointing yes, as defeats always are, but I don't think we need to be too down about this one, as it was relatively predictable and overall we are definitely doing OK so far points-wise.

We were just sloppy. Not bad, not piss poor, just not our usual good standard.
If any of the usual lot have a go at Grigg, they're demented. I'd single out Paterson for wanting to keep the ball too long, though.

Cheesebag, Walsall FC does not need fans like these. I can guess who these idiots are as well ..... there the ones that no nothing about football.
Support the players who wear your club colours and as Cheesebag has said you sound like Wolves fans ..... Well if that's the case fudge off there then.

Then again I am in Naples on holiday , just seen enough totty to keep you happy for a month , had a couple of drinks and now smoking a cigar on hotel terrace.
So I might be being overly enthusiastic .
Let's say 3-1 , be on the safe side
Yes, you are in holiday mode, although how you can do that in a dump like Naples is beyond me.

Re: Stevenage Away - 18th September 2012 - League One
A fair result but the margin flattered Stevenage a little - 2-1 would have been a more accurate reflection of play. To give credit to the home team, they have got rid of the Westley heritage of thuggery and hoofball. They did try to play football although they still have several big players. Our possession football and passing is often a joy to watch, particularly after some of the crap we have had to watch in recent seasons. However, it seems to be possession for possession's sake. We need passing with a purpose, namely to hurt the opposition when we have the ball. For all the quality in the midfield third, we run out of ideas when we reach our attacking third.
Much as Bowerman works his socks off, he ploughs a lone furrow. He needs support, either in the form of a strike partner or an attacking midfield player who can break through from deeper positions, supporting ahead of the ball at times. It is highly unlikely that we can afford both options and the midfielder looks the likelier option as we already have Bowerman, Grigg, Williams and Brandy up front. Featherstone does a tidy job in the deeper midfield rôle and with Paterson and Hemmings playing wide, that leaves Cuvelier and Baxendale presumably to look after the attacking side of play. However, neat and tidy players though they are, they are not doing the attacking support rôles.
Our defence looks adequate enough but I still have grave reservations about Grof. He may make some spectacular saves but when it comes to the basics, the "bread-and-butter" of his trade, he is found wanting too often. Tonight was typical. Shroot should have been closed down better (by Butler?) but the shot was not very strong. I was sitting right in line with the shot and Grof was a bit out with his angles. For the second goal, he was beaten from distance by a shot which went over his hands and under the bar. As for the third goal, he was all over the place. Although I am an admirer of Walker, he is not the medium or long term answer. Grof needs to step up his game quickly. Our promotion push will be undermined by further mistakes!
