If this is to be our strike force for the season then we can forget it and prepare for league 2,absolute disgrace.

Was you born a fool or have you been practising really hard, 45 mins gone out of 46 games to play....idiot !
In the first game, you want a good start to the season to start to build confidence, so you SHOULD play your best team, and that would include Walker in goal, NOT David Grof. I was dismayed to find Walker wasn't in the team, and it seems I was right to be.
Surrey Saddler was watching Walsall FC before you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye, so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to the Saddlers, and YOU need to address people with a bit more respect!
I have been watching WFC since 1967 (born in 1956) so that would make him about 67 if he started watching them at the same age as me !
Dont you dare patronise me, its a wonder you havent blocked my answer or deleted it like you normally do.
I also know what i am talking about when it comes to the saddlers and have seen many goalkeepers over the years, good and bad.
Get your facts right, shut up or mind your own business !
Surrey Saddler if you are as old as your mate says then you have seen far worse, give the kid a chance for gods sake.
It's YOU that needs to get your facts straight Pinnacle, Surrey IS significantly older than you, and even significantly older than ME, and I'm 7-8 years older than you.
Another fact you need to get right is that I have NEVER blocked or deleted ANY post of yours, it's not my usual style. You've just accused me of it, and you're just plain WRONG. Other Mods may have done that, and sometimes I don't blame them because you have that certain way about you that invites that action, and I'm absolutely sure that you'll bring that action upon yourself again because you just can't help yourself can you, but I repeat, it has NEVER been me that has blocked or deleted any of your post(s), or banned you for that matter, even though you've invited and received that action in the past too.
I wasn't patronising you, I was simply TELLING you (as a Mod), and now I'm telling you again so you'll realise I mean it, to address people on this message board with a bit more respect, and that was justified by you addressing a very intelligent and articulate gentleman like Surrey Saddler as an idiot, which I assure you and everyone he is not.

Indeed. To have an opinion on the squad, you kind of need to watch them.
I've seen him a few times, and others amongst my family and friends have seen him more than me, and we don't think he's yet a ready replacement for Walker. I hope he proves us wrong, but today wasn't a good day for him by the sounds of it, and I'll learn a lot more about that over a pint or two later on this evening.
I'm also relying on the reports of many people (including Saddlers World today and many very reliable witnesses) that we appear short on strength up front at this stage of the season. I haven't seen it for myself, but today appears to have proved that as well, so would you say that I'm not allowed an opinion on that either, even though it's correct?

Just got home and trying to be upbeat ( but it's difficult )
We have to find someone with more presence up front or we've had it. This league full of giants and despite Grigg having a decent game he will always struggle against them. Grof had a bad day at the office but would stick with him he's young and will get better. Hemmings lively and flo tried his heart out but can't do it all on his own. Also why won't they pass to the right wing when players in space ??
Onwards and upwards
Keep the faith Saddlers !!!

According to the BBC - 60% of possession, one more shot on goal, same number on-target: discuss :(
Let's hope it's just "one of those days" (like wot Liverpool and QPR just had  ) but it looks like goalscoring is going to be a problem... :(

My my my, i dont want to sound doom and gloom but that really was woeful bar a good spell at 1-0 down. Doncaster won at half pace.
Grof had a shocker today, the first goal was his fault, the second goal was a good goal but, im sorry, a keeper shouldnt be getting lobbed from there, and the third went straight over the bloody top of him.
Zero Presence in the box, a lump of coal would be better than Greggs on his own. This stifled us more than anything because we simply had to pass it backwards instead of putting something in the box. Then we eventually gave the ball away.
Our defence is slow, and when they tried, Paynter and Brown had them on toast.
Positives :It cant get any worse, Doncaster have a vastly superior class of player, and we did at least in the large part, pass the ball.
Groff - Lets not talk about him.
Purkiss - Good on the ball, probably an upgrade on Beevers though a little rigid.
Butler - Poor today. Won sweet FA in the air.
Holden - As Above.
Chambers - Solid, but if only he had a left foot.
Hemmings - the odd run, bright player, bewildered as to why he took him off.
Cuvelier - The only "good footballer" we possess.
Featherstone - Hes alright, but he has to think about things for 5 seconds before he passes it.
A, Chambers - Probably our best player today, could have scored a goal with a bit of luck.
Paterson - Also, not sure why we took him off.
Grigg- Oh dear, what a plodder. He cant do it on his own, at least he moved a bit today.

Grigg huffed and puffed but what else did he actually do? do not think he had 1 effort on goal all game. Bowerman came on and had acouple of efforts, Paterson was poor today but had acouple of efforts, Brandy lasted 2 mins after being caught by a synical foul and then went off.
Butler and Holden today played like they had never met, both chambers brothers did well, Purkiss is a blodder and thats about it, hemmings did ok 1st half. Featherstone and Cuvelier (obviously) were the pick of the players today.
Grof should have saved the 1st goal, 2nd goal not sure if to blame him or not and 3rd was virtually unstoppable, I think we have to stick with Grof as he is our future and being replaced so early in the season would do him no good whatsoever.

Love reading the moaning and groaning!
Just got back from the game and yes Grof had a shocker but dropping him is ridiculous. He had one bad game but up to this point in time has kept us in game after game. We passed well with no end product. Your all going on and missing the obvious. Grof has one bad game and will learn from it but Grigg did NOTHING. Absolutely nothing, bower an contributed more when he came on. Also why was Hemmings subbed - silly decision

Re: Doncaster Rovers (H) - 18/08/12 League 1
I can't work today out... We played pretty well, attractive football, nice partterns etc, but two major problems. Donna were not that good, they were given a win, rather than earning a win.
1) Defensively suspect. They didn't have to Work for any of their goals. Purists was poor, they had a lot of joy against him and he looks uncomfortable as a full back. We need to sign a left back with a left foot, to allow Chambers to move to right back.
2) Going forward we offer very little. Very good play, get to the edge of the box and we're pretty stuck. Grigg worked hard today, but lacks the presence and experience needed, I think his movement could be a lot better though, quite easy to mark out of a game. We got into some really good positions down the flanks, and if we got more men or had some presence, then we could have put balls in the box.
It worries me when I say we were great between the boxes, but concerning in both boxes as they are the most important areas of a football pitch. Clearly need a left back and an experienced striker with presence, who can help Grigg learn his trade as both club and fans are putting too much pressure on him.

I wouldnt drop Grof either, but today he a massive stinker and after they lobbed him the first time he was terrified and stuck to his line like glue.
He needs to give his head a wobble and keep his chin up.

so much for the I have a good feeling about todays game
Just got back. Groff had a shocker yea but gurantee he will save us more points this season then loose us. So lay off jesus
Not good at all. Plainly obvious we need at least 2 strikers. Grigg had nothing to go on Flo was prob my best player. Butler seemed slow today off the pace. We really need to work on our corners today majority of them were Sunday league standard. Was it just me or did we have loads ???
Pitch was waterlogged in centre of pitch and mean water logged
Dunno how we will line up Tuesday but back to the drawing board.
Still in bit of shock if I am honest. No urgency no plan b or c. Subs were weird. Looks like Brandy will be out for a while if its his achilles.
Anyhow on to the positives got me QPR tiickets. And they got hammered we have a chance :)

Not sure if the glass is half full or empty. A better performance if not result than the first game of last season.
Grof has to take the blame for the first two goals. Hardly a pile driver that he parried to Brown and if they have the ball 40 yards out the edge of the penalty area isn't the best place to stand.
Full backs did ok but Butler and Holden struggled against admittedly two useful strikers. Central midfield did a job and were probably our two best performers. Hemmings showed a few bright touches but Paterson disappointing. He fails to keep a position particulalry when playing on the right. Considering we were playing with two wingers how many crosses came in from them?
There is no point in playing Grigg as a lone striker if we are pumping high balls up to him. Both their centre backs were a good six inches taller and won everything in the air. Play it in to feet and we might see a different Grigg. The ploy of playing Flo just off him is not working at the moment but that could be because the wide men aren't giving support.
We had more shots than Rovers, trouble is they were not that taxing for the keeper to save.
Thought the ref had a good game today. Good advantage after 5 minutes and then went back to caution their centre back. Very refreshing to see him caution the number 11 for time wasting early in second half. Stopped any more of that.

It's fair enough to blame Grof for the first two, but it's harsh to blame him for the third - the Doncaster player was given all the time and space he wanted to pick his spot. I agree with Stu - some decent stuff, but not strong enough in either box. In fact they were bigger and physically stronger than us in pretty well every position.
Did anyone notice during Brandy's brief cameo that he was literally a foot shorter than the centre half who was marking him!

Neither team was much cop overall - two 'keeper errors and a cracking strike from Donny, didn't get battered by all means but not the best of starts to the season.
Do seem to lack a cutting edge though, and Grigg done woeful up top alone, not playing to his strength's at all.
No need to force a stroke on yourselves though, flattering was 3-0, move onto Oldham...

Maths (sums) not you strong point, Pinnacle. By your calculation, I am 45. Thanks mate, you are my friend for life :D I have seen far worse, but I must admit I have never been impressed by Grof
Nothing wrong with my maths Surrey,
I started watching WFC in 1967 at the age of 10 as my birthday is in October (ok so far)..... so if you were watching them (not your words i admit) when i was a mere twinkle (1956) you would be at least 56. Taking into account that you may have seen your first game at the same age as me, that makes you considerably older. Dont really think that either of us has a problem with this and the word idiot is an off the cuff remark that no one really takes too serious.
Sorry if i offended you, tell those that interfere to mind their own business. I have utmost respect for my elders, not really a UTS trademark is it

Yes, you are being.
? ?
"Embarrassing"
What is exactly? I'd say this prat on the back row of Block 4 telling Purkiss to fudge off back to Hereford qualifies, if he was closer to me I'd have told him where to go the unsupportive muppet.

Don't even start me on the fans that booed at half time, we weren't playing bad in the first half!
