Maybe worth a phone call as he looks to re-launch his career:

My mate supports Brentford and reckons he is the biggest load of cack ever to step onto a football pitch.

He clearly never saw Kofi Dakinah in action.

By my calculations, even with the drop in TV revenue, we should have a bit of budget to do yet. I think we should do it on a big signing. Fuller is probably out of reach but I'd prefer us to sign a decent comparatively big name rather than several small name/no names. Several of our kids might be able to do a job and we can use the loan market to bolster if required.

Quality over quantity from now please Dean.

Not necessarily mutually inclusive. It'd only take a bad run of results before Mr big-time charlie throws his toys out the pram, and all of a sudden he's both expensive and disruptive. Tread carefully with 'name' players.

I mentioned McCammon because he is available, affordable and is not completely over the hill. I'm pretty sure that he was a decent foil for Hayter at Donny (under O'Kelly's tutelage) before the lure of a big payday at Gillingham. Therefore the goals-to-games ratio is pretty irrelevant unless you're in the market for Djeko.

A name that has been floated about in the past is Steve Brooker. Again, there is the O'Kelly connection and he was a crackin' striker at Port Vale. He could turn out to be another Parkin; however, he could be another Mooney. His stats are comparable although he would be 'a long shot' given the amount of games he's played recently.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Brooker

Frankly, talk of Fuller, Sidibe, etc are fanciful to say the least. Why not Ebanks-Blake while we're at it

We are shopping at 'the last chance saloon' and I think Brooker would be worth a punt.

At least no one's mentioned Carl Cort recently anyway

Put the forms on the coach up and we can get him to sign after the match on Saturday if he's any good.

Adebola might be worth a short term 1 year deal perhaps, from what I can gather Forest/County fans said last season that he is very much earning his wages purely on a reputation he earned many years ago - legs are gone, doesn't impact games the way he should for a man his size, doesn't create or score much. If we sign Mark McCammon I may refuse to enter the stadium. By all accounts he's the slowest most lumbering centre forward in league football, his immobile and constantly, constantly unfit. Not only that, but he's 33 and has barely played or has barely ever been picked by numerous managers at Gillingham in league two - he really, really, really would be a pointless signing and would most likely make the likes of Jarvis and Parkin look like at your ankles goal scoring machines - in short. NO THANKS under ALL circumstances

I think he'd be a good signing. Certainly in the right mould anyway.

I'm encouraged by that. Last season it appeared that we signed all of the triallists. It would appear that there is more strategic thinking on the part of Smith and O'Kelly. I also like the prospect of a passing philosophy.

Consensus seemed to be that none of those three offered anything in the games they played, so it at least looks like we're progressing things with the right players.

Yes, it sounds really silly, but the fact that we are being discerning with our trialists is progress!
In previous years Sammons would have been signed like O'Keefe, Marshall or any other ex-premiership youngster.
We've had far too many tidy but ineffectual midfielders.

Very true. Proof that Smith is learning, perhaps.

i'd like to think the final third of last season showed Smith the sort of attributes he needs to group together if he wants to play half decent football to good effect. He might not be able to bring in identical players, but he should at least know what works well.

We're still sifting through the cack left after everyone else has had their pick but at least we're discarding the worst of the leftover cack.

Progress indeed :D

You could put it like that, yes.

You should know by now that if there is a straw to clutch with respect to Smith, I will grab it :D

What worries me in that report is the bit about a strong eleven being put out against Kiddy...if THAT is a strong eleven, I think we are in for a torrid season in the basement our our Division, with heavy defeats and lack of goals being 'the norm' :(

Every side in our league would probably take McLeod, but it seems he's perfectly happy to sit tight until Portsmouth's transfer embargo is overturned.
