Wycombe have had their transfer embargo lifted and signed Matthew Spring, Sam Wood and Gary Doherty. Spring and Wood could have done a job I think, but I expect location more than anything is why they've gone to Wycombe.

Chesterfield have signed Sam Togwell. Very steady player at our level.

Exeter have signed Kevin Amankwaah and Pat Baldwin. Amankwaah has always been half decent when I've seen him, doubt whoever we sign to play right back will have his experience or know how at our level.

Southend have signed Anthony Straker and Gavin Tomlin. Straker was highly rated for an Aldershot side that did well last season, although there will be a fee involved for him which rules us out. Tomlin isn't a massive goal getter, and I'd have probably only liked him as an option from the bench for us, but I've seen him play a few times and he's got a good touch and brings others into play well. Think he scored against us on his Yeovil debut on the opening day 3 or 4 years back.

Don't really know what the point of all this has been, suppose it's just to point out that the players are out there, and most are getting snapped up.

...or, on the other hand, the players are out there, and the most desperate clubs are chewing through their budgets early, or the most desperate players are signing early, or the most desperate agents are just trying to scrape together their holiday money...

Shrewsbury have just announced the signings of Luke Summerfield and Rob Purdie.

Nothing to cry over here.

Not at all. There are also whispers about Darius Vassell, which I has the potential to be a catastrophic waste of cash.

Are people even not slightly concerned that pre-season training starts in 2 days and we have 5 senior players?

No, Walsall are playing the recruitment game the right way, its just everyone else that's wrong.

Even Coventry have made a signing

But I have a theory, perhaps Walsall employee's are been promoted to the squad???? there's must be a decent finisher in the ticket office.

I am that used to our unambitious (word?) transfer policy, that what is the point of being concerned. There will probably be around 10 released misfits from League 2 clubs, on the first day of training and we will sign the lot of them because there will be no-one else left (well who we will have to pay more than £300 a week!). I can see us opting for a few ex-Hereford players, Craig Stanley and few Peter Till/Anton Peterlin/Joe Broad types!!!!!!

Yes it would appear that all new employees of the club must have at least one other attribute . For example even the groundsman has been dragged up on stage to sing (advertised in the new what's on brochure).
Imagine a new right back arriving. --"Ok mate so you can play a little football -but what else can you do? --Unblock drains, paint stands,a little juggling act in the Bonser suite?

Mashiter said on Twitter, DS talking about transfers in tomorrows paper with the mention of potential targets too.

Finally DS is off holiday and real work can start now

According to the Sky paper round up we're after Paul Black.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already.

Im not sure why people are dismissing Luke Summerfield. I'd have been 100% happy over signing him. One of Cheltenham's best players, a good midfielders and a player that would no doubt have been on our list - I'd be amazed if he didnt turn down a contract for us to sign for them and the fact that we're supposedly interested in Hereford's released players makes me think Purdie probably choose Shrewsbury over us also. Heard it from a friend that works with Alex Nicholls brother in the army, that we offered a deal on slightly less than half his wage last season and that he had offers from Burton, Vale and Northampton all on more than what we were paying him last season. Terrible.

Why's that terrible? What did he do to prove he was worth keeping on his existing wage? I didn't see too many League One clubs in the hunt for him after he turned down a contract with us.

24 goals in over 200 appearances isn't good enough for a striker - even if he is a local lad.

22 year old Left Back, came through the Oldham Athletic youth scheme, played for them for a season or two. Then struck down with a couple of injuries, hence released at the end of last season. Was quite promising before his injuries. Got called up once into the England U18 squad but never made the team.
