We had a left back from Manchester City on a season-long loan a couple of years ago. Forgotten his name. Ryan something ? He was nothing special, and the loan was terminated.

I think he played all last season on loan at Bristol City. Helped them just about to stay in the Championship.

Cook and Holmes would be great signings: can't see either of them coming to us though :(

Ahhh Wingers, which we could bypass, by playing long aimless balls up to our new 3ft 2 striker to win.

Surely Dean Smith will be looking at trying to bring Cook in following his release. Whether we get him or not is a different story, but I am sure he'll give it a go.

Would like to see Smith go for Cook, but I dont think we could afford Ledesma & Cooks wages.

I notice the man with 'an abundance of genuine potential' Ishmel Demontagnac has been released from Notts County.

Idiot!

Forget Gillet; I believe that Hayter would give us the 'cutting edge' we've been longing for.

Surprised that they released him but he may be on a decent whack.

Cue the 'hayters'...

heard Super Kev and Connolly been mentioned.

My take on this. Club is in a bit of a rot with striker options. Every season we seem to have a Grandad has a striker and obvious we need pace. Everyone knows why player A has a decent career and bit like a horse needs somewhere to graze his final days.

Hoping for 2 players under 30. 1 year contract with option of a 2nd. Non league/League 2 or even Championship players with a point to prove, please no more oldies. The excuse of oh they bring experience and on there day can bang in a few goals getting a bit thin

Even get loan players in like Yeovil and Obika. Plenty of neighbours to ask Wolves, WBA even Villa.

I agree we dont need to sign another old'en, but I reckon David Connolly would do the business, could easily get 12+ goals, with some service he could get even more.

Let's not fall into the trap so many British football fans fall into - pace means nothing if you can't use it. All we ever seem to hear on this board is pace, pace, pace, but the fact is, we've had a pacy 'striker' in Alex Nicholls for 7 years to little avail.

Of course, we need some mobility up front, but equally, we need someone with a footballing brain and the ability to hold the ball up. Having seen Nicholls and Grigg play up front together on at least one occasion this season, I've seen that having someone who can get hold of the ball and keep it in the opposition's half is just as important as having a greyhound up front who chases shadows.

We have also needed a "real big target man" for about 76 years.

We had someone good with the ball at their feet, and the morons couldnt accept it, cause he was fat and white and wasnt a big black Drogba esque striker.

Grigg and Nicholls no. Leds can hold the ball up and work his magic, just needs to put a bit of muscle on. Do think Grigg has something in his locker just having trouble finding it :)

How many times are we gonna go through this on having a oldie he scores 8-10 goals if were lucky. Need to make a statement and get a striker who could maybe break into the 15 goals bracket.

For that sort of striker you need the cash, or a real promising youngster.

*Once in a while though, you can sign someone pretty average and he turns into an absolute goal machine.

lower leagues M8 they are there. Stats prove it. Seem like we took a punt on Constable and Deeney then it dried up. Even now it's difficult though with how much some of the top players in conference or BNP as they call it now went for.

Loan players I would go for do the homework and do a season loan. Actually trust Smith as well did well with Flo and Mantom. I'll take anything over a OAP.

Remember Tommy Mooney? Despite being 36 years old when we signed him, he's probably the most effective striker we've had over the last few years.

Too many people on here seem more bothered by the stigma attached to the signing of a striker over the age of 32 than what they can actually add to the team. If we create enough chances, we won't need to find a lethal goal machine. We'd all love a team of 20-22 year olds playing fast-paced, scintilating football every week, but the reality is, sometimes you need that bit of nouse that comes with being a seasoned pro.

Dont worry we have Will Grigg :D who averages a mighty singular goal in just over every 7 games, which over the course of a season would be less than what that utter rubbish Nicholls scored last season
