Re: France vs South Africa
With Uruguay beating Mexico 1-0 then South Africa only need an extra two goal swing on Mexico to go through (unless South Africa don't score again and Mexico concede two more, in which case they draw lots)

As much as I'm tempted to laugh at those lot across the sea, I'm going to reserve judgement until about 5pm tomorrow.
I am quite simply terrified.

If we go out tomorrow i'll be peed off but i'll still be laughing at the French.
If the worst come to the worst there'd still be another team that has totally blown it!

Ours would be just a regrettable balls-up by a group of frightened and soulless people.
The French are a bunch of embarrassing failures that have humiliated their country.

I don't see much difference really. A team full of over paid players with no pride. Players trying to tell the manager what to do. Okay they do it better than us, but most people do most things better than us.
Our group was significantly easier than theirs too. If we come home tomorrow, then our team are failures that have humiliated our country.

...and they're embarrassing. I'd be more embarrassed than a Frenchman to be honest. :(

Not yet as there is still one more game. France finished bottom with the team in chaos, one sent home and the manager refusing to shake his counterpart's hand. French performances were dreadful.
We have had one OK performance and one complete disaster, but despite Terry's attempt at being the media clown, the camp is unified and has one last stab.

I was replying to both submissions in order to make everyone feel included. It was strictly an example of the first conditional (I would be) anyway, not a 'pure' future tense (I will be)

The second conditional might have taken place in the past.

In classroom situations like this I :
1 Ignore it
2 Loudly say "what a wonderful question - that can be homework"
3 Use distraction to change the subject
4 Leave

Conditionals
0 I am embarrassed if England lose. (This is always the case - i.e. I am always embarrassed.)
1 I will be embarrassed if England lose. (A definite possibility)
2 I would be embarrassed if England lost. (England are less likely to lose.)
3 I would have been embarrassed if England had lost. (Impossible. England didn't lose.)
A mixture of 1 and 2 may also occur
e.g. I would be embarrassed if England lose. (Perhaps you won't be as embarrassed as in 1 above.)

Love it. Is that one of Ashley Cole's many excuses to Cheryl.

No it was that Rooney wouldn't have clue about the conditional perfect in English, let alone French.
And yes, he ought to have played better
