If it turns out to be true then fair play to you for actually putting your neck out and saying he had signed BUT if it turns out to be complete and utter b*****ks then you should every right to feel  because like what has been said above, there is a rumour thread at the top of the board for transfers that "might happen".

Which is one of the reasons I had only sent it as a text to Aldridge Steve and MMF (the other was I was at my daughter's graduation ceremony!). It transpires that someone thought they would wind the Fat Controller up by sending him a text on holiday in Gran Canaria, little realising that he would get back on to someone in this country straight away!

So this is all a wind up

I for one appreciate any "inside" gossip I pick up on this site but they should be exactly that, gossip. When I see a post from a long standing member saying someone has actually signed i presume it to be the truth (which I think Phil thought it was by the way) and then hopes are raised. If this one doesn't come off there are undoubtedly going to be fans disappointed in who we bring in as this was the expected benchmark. Perhaps posts like this shouldn't be made unless they are confirmed or from a very very reliable source.

And besides that I told a fwe of my mates and now I've got to tell them I was wrong

Did anyone actually believe we were going to 1. pay a fee, and 2. break our transfer record?

As, If.

Back to square one..... Still need a creative central midfielder and a left back then.

So you decided to post a little wind-up jokey thread at exactly the same time as texts circulated with what was purporting to be reliable info about him signing? What a coincidence.

Anyway, I thought we were prepared to pay a sizable fee - isn't it the interest from elsewhere that is holding up any deal?

Don't think a left back will be high on DD's list , he rates Fox and as high hopes for Sansara .

Wasn't it confirmed a while ago that we'd put a bid in for him (meaning transfer fee)? I can't see why we wouldn't, after all, it wasn't that many years ago we signed Jorge for our record fee.

Nope..We only paid £150,000 for Jorge the record still stands at £175,000 (i think) for Buckley.

isn't Buckley's 175K fee still the record fee?

Leitao cost us "only" 150K

Perhaps Leamore can enlighten us.

I'm sorry Phil, but you obviously did at the time and now are trying to back track and make it was one big joke. Be man enough to admit the fact.

If [post moderated] is waiting on the Leeds situation to become clear before deciding his future perhaps he should consider the fact that they haven't been paid for 6 weeks. Personally I'd take a smaller guaranteed wage rather than a higher one that may get paid in 2 or 3 months time.

Well if you read the press there have been two articles published today:

1. Money says Wrack will be like a new signing.

So, there's no X or A and Wrack will do this instead.

2. Money happy with working relationship with chairman.

So, no players under 24 can sign as no tribunal / fee will be paid.

Or, of course this could be a decoy....

As someone righly said, it's the number of offers that Player X has received that has caused the problem. The biggest problem of all is Club C with whom we will be at war if he signs for them. The personal terms are probably the sticking point, because there's little doubt that his Agent, A[x], is advising X to await the outcome of the Club C fiasco before he makes a decision.

This is why he is still turning out for Club Y in pre-season matches and going through the motions, as he'll need to get sharpness whether he comes here or goes there.

I would imagine that a number of clubs have agreed a fee in principle for his release from Club Y, it's just waiting on his decision now. He's n years old and you wouldn't expect him to rush this decision. What is counting against Club C is their likely inability to pay and they will be used to lever to up the personal terms.

This is so funny.

People actually think I honestly believed he'd signed?

This whole thread was started as a joke/rumour thread, just like may others this close season. Aldridge Steve and Par will vouch for that as we were talking about starting this thread privately beforehand...

There's nothing to own up to. I knew nothing more than the rumour which was that we'd signed him, I didn't seriously claim that to be the case.

People are upset because they took what was a joke/rumour thread to be deadly serious

jeez

Yes it will, but any one who thinks we're going to sign an up and coming midfielder who was excellent last season and will cost a hefty fee is living in cloud cuckoo land!

It was also obvious Millwall wanted a fee for Byfield, and I wonder why we didn't get anywhere with that?
