Great!! And good to see Butler scoring again, hope he keeps it up and gets 20+ this season.
Must remember these two wins have come against teams that are gonna be bottom half this season so need to see how we do against the Darlingtons etc. Lets judge properly after 6-10 games!
But that said...
...GET IN THEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

The thing that struck me as soon as i walked into Bescot tonight was the
difference in the atmosphere in the place . It seemed so much happier
and positive and after watching the game its easy to see why. Fit , organised ,
disciplined and playing with a considerable amount of flair when possible is
this the real Walsall i'm watching ? Also pleasing was the way we battled when
we had to. I know its early days and our two wins have come against teams who
will almost certainly be in the bottom half of the table but its just a joy to be able to
write a positive post again. :)

My exiled brother called me after the game and asked me who was my man of the match. Just like last season, I couldn't name one. Except this time not because no-one deserved it but because you couldn't fault any of them. Even the players who didn't make so much of an impact - Fox, Pead - were solid and did all you could expect. There is a great spirit about the place at the moment and its rubbing off on the fans who appreciate 'English' football qualities - organisation, determination, hard work, enthusiasm. Long may it continue.
We weren't playing silky football throughout, but I'm not expecting us to. In fact there are bound to be times through the season when our form dips. Heck, we may even concede a goal at some point. But while we work for each other and the team like we did today then you won't get any complaints from me.
A word for Stockport. Not for the first time when they've visited Bescot I've been impressed with their contribution to the game. They created some chances and didn't stop putting in the hard yards throughout. A decent following too for a midweek game down the M6. Their attitude was summed up by the goalkeeper, generously applauded for looking out for the stricken Dobbo while the referee hadn't a clue what was going on. I know it's easy to be magnanimous in victory, but good on 'em.

Another performance where I feared the worst when we didn't extend our lead, but never really looked in danger of conceding. We just look solid throughout. Fox looks to be improving in midfield as the games go by and we just look rock solid at the back. Whilst we haven't looked like conceding from a corner, I don't like the way we bring every player back to defend and also thought our marking could have been improved upon tonight.
Wright still looks the weak link in the side, but I'm beginning so sound like a broken record when talking about him so I'll give it a rest tonight.
You get the feeling Hector Sam needs a goal to fill him with confidence. He works really hard, but is still a bit short in terms of his match fitness.

Am I the only one that thought Dobson was distinctly average today? He improved a lot in the second half but I couldn't believe it when he was named MotM.
He gave the ball away far too many times and gave quite a few bad passes which put us in danger.
Wright looked decent for about 10 minutes at hte beginning, but was bloody awful after that. I was impressed by out left side, although not quite a strong attacking threat, Taylor and Fox looked very comfortable and Solid.

Agree with you on Wright and our left side but disagree about Dobson.
At this early stage, it looks like he's going to get some stick in a similar way to Osborn used to - because he is involved so much, he's inevitably going to give the ball away ocassionally. You have to look at the players around him though - it's no good blaming him for wasting the ball, if nobody is giving him an option. At times, his passing took the pressure off - he found Pead in acres of space a number of times when in a tight situation.
Personally, I think he's exactly what we've missed for at least 2 years. The bloke is a winner and adds steel and determination to the team. That can only help the whole mentality at the club.

I agree that his options at times were almost limited-to-none. But at others he was simply careless and at times chose a more complicated pass when a simpler would have been a better choice, I was worried whenever a player came to close him down.
I can't fault his effort and determination though, and I'm not saying he's a bad player. He's a very good ball winner, and I've been impressed with him on other occasions, but tonight he was slightly disappointing in my opinion.

Did anyone else notice the record they played at the end?"Bringing on back the good times".that's just what it felt like to me.for the first time in ages i've got home from a match and thought "Yes,that was worth going to see".

Similarly, 'Hard to Beat' was played between the teams running onto the pitch and kick off.

Disagree with the criticsm for Wright, thought he played really well tonight, got some great crosses into the box and was exciting on the ball.
Roper was my MOTM, was a rock at the back and the bullet header for his goal... excellent delivery from the corner.
Referee was a complete waste of space when Dobson was down injured, and I think the stretcher bearers had packed up ready to go home!
I haven't enjoyed a match this much for a long time, in fact I had stopped attending last season as Merson blatantly had no idea what he was doing. It is just so good to now have our club back, the fans were great tonight.
Up The Saddlers!

Agreed, I don't understand the drubbings Wright is getting from the fans. He was brilliant tonight, everytime he got the ball he looked dangerous.

3 points,
1, the subs - why all 3 so close together? we lost our organisation and fluency. also, why no ishy? he would have run county ragged towards the end
2, dobson - definitely MOTM. haven't you been watching walsall recently? he's the sort of player everyteam needs. a battler. martin occonor esque. so what if he missed a few passes. he won so many tackles. he sits there, breaks things up. quality
3, wrighty.. get off his f****** back. i cannot believe people are saying he ws rubbish. he looks like a different player. full of confidence. he ran at them, had the beating of the full back. plenty of crosses where we all went 'ooh..awww'. it's no coincidence lots of managers have picked him again and again.

Hear Hear - Wright looked good tonight (Leamore + North Staffs Saddler - over to yous  :D )
Roper had the most complete match I have seen him play - a great performance.
Butler is going to rip this division apart
Dicky Dosh never let up with his managing throughout the 90 minutes (Wow - a manager that manages)
It has been so long since I have felt this good after a game - a comitted team with ideas and the skill to pull them off.
Well done to all players and to management for tonight - We Have Our Walsall Back Again :D :D :D
