Well under 3,500 Saddlers there (4,569 - 1,125 = 3,444). The lowest level of home support on a Saturday since 2015.

We've won one, great! Looks like we were hanging on just a bit towards the end, once more Jon saves his job!
Today was the turning point, mid table it is then.

I thought that it was a one off protest, but according to that there is going to be one for every home game?layzeedude wrote:Carl Jackson from E&S posting videos of protest.

Re: Oxford United (H) Jan 13th, 3pm
have to say a fantastic performance against one of the best teams ive seen down bescot this season.
a real gutsy effort throwing bodies on the line and the change of goalkeeper was a masterstroke
a 10/10 performance from our goalkeeper and one of the best goalkeeping performances in 5 years plus for me.
walked past the protest looked pretty tame wont achieve anything but fair play to the 100 hardy souls freezing their potatoes off

Looking at Joe Masi's tweets seems Liam Roberts played a blinder.
Much better potential and ability than Gillespie I think.

You need a keeper who wins you games. Etheridge did it and O'Donnell did before him. Not sure about Gillespie. Well done Liam Roberts.

Probably about 150 outside I'd say on the 80 minute walkout mark, would have been double that probably if the game hadn't been exciting for a change. As noted, fairly lame but it had to be done imo. When early birds drop off by 3-400, the parasite might be a bit more perturbed. 20 according to dinglefm
As for the game, our tactical genius selected a fantastic starting 11 who would have been 3 down before we'd known what hit us but for a wakka style display by Roberts. Oxford then gifted us two goals with Whitney-esque defensive lapses. I'd imagine that Oxford haven't a fudge clue as to how they lost that game. Might be a crucial 3 points by may, but lucky as fudge.

Outstanding Ozzy - we'll miss him
Outstanding keeper-should keep his place
Well done team
Well done Whitney
Well done 20/150
Nice Cod Masala at Kings chippy in the Delves and Yellow chips a la Middletons- saying that when can we buy a pie from the ground again?

Re: Oxford United (H) Jan 13th, 3pm
The most baffling team selection in my 50 odd years of watching Walsall!!! but JW did one thing right in selecting the goalkeeper who gave a display reminiscent of Jimmy Walker at his best!!! Other good performances from the much maligned (on here) Guthrie and Baka. who looked the player we all hoped he could be!!!
Our two goals were excellent in different ways ...the first from a quick free kick and the second from a brilliant piece of magic from Ozzy. Oxford deserved at least a point for their good football but as we know only too well you don't always get what you deserve.

Re: Oxford United (H) Jan 13th, 3pm
I thought we deserved the win despite the many chances that Oxford had and either missed or were brilliantly saved by Roberts who today gave one of the best goalkeeping displays in the last ten years. He was absolutely brilliant and will definitely go for a large sum of money if we can hold onto him with a long contract. Another player worthy of mention was Bakayoko who led the line with another excellent display, winning headers, showing some great touches and scoring a well deserved goal. Proof, if needed, that we have quite a few thicko's who fail to recognise a players potential.

Liam Roberts - Take a bow son.
150?...that had certainly dwindled by full time the when I walked past. Looked more like 40-50 with a half arsed “we want Bonser out” being chanted. He was probably watching via a webcam poolside in Cyprus....pissing himself.

40-50!!!! You want to have your eyes tested mate!
Fair enough if fans don't want to protest, it's their perfect right but why do some seem to take so much enjoyment in continually belittling fellow fans?

I could've easily stayed to the end today. A fairly decent game (in comparison to recent shite) and it being in the balance. However, I really think things need to change before this club disappears into a hole of mediocrity and non-ambition. Therefore I feel making our feelings known is more important than the last few minutes of a game.
Like I said earlier, I have absolutely no problem with fans not wishing to support the protest but do get angry with posters like Gripper that contribute nothing but making fun of fellow fans just because they hold a different view.

Really enjoyable game. Liam Roberts - wow. As Cully says one of the best goalkeeping displays for a very long time.
Thought we got stronger after half time . The first half was daylight robbery. Would have been nice to have got a third during that spell when we were right on top.
I didn't join the protest. I think around 25 did the full ninety outside whilst plenty left on eighty minutes to boost the numbers to a few hundred. Why didn't I join? I was actually enthralled by a game of football for the first time for a long time and wanted to see it through.

Re: Oxford United (H) Jan 13th, 3pm
Personally, I never understood the reasoning behind the 80th minute walk-out. Boycott the match totally and/or join in the demonstration outside the ground after the game if you wish to protest.
Regarding the game itself, I must praise Oxford for playing football as opposed to hoofball - a very skillful side who would have felt that they deserved at least one point if not all three. Luckily for us, their finishing lacked a cutting edge, today, plus Liam Roberts made a couple of truly outstanding saves of which Gordon Banks would have been truly proud. We were on the back foot for much of the game but we took two of our few chances. A special mention to Guthrie and Bakayoko, two players who have received a lot of criticism on UTS, some of it fully justified. They both played very well, today. Indeed, I would say that Guthrie must have been very close to MotM, ahead of Liam Roberts. It was that sort of game where our defence had to be on top form.
Was this yet another "flash in the pan"? The Charlton and Blackburn games will tell us a lot. After those two games. the January transfer window will have closed and we will have a better idea of our prospects for the rest of the season.

Re: Oxford United (H) Jan 13th, 3pm
As already said on here a fantastic goalkeeping display from Liam as could easily have been 3 down at halftime. We looked suspect on their every attack particularly on our right side where Kinsella looked out of place and lightweight. Fortunately Guthrie was close behind Roberts on performance and Kory is cultured but was under some pressure.
Oxford looked a class above us in the first half and played good expansive football in the style of Smith/O Kelly teams towards the end of their reign. We really only had 9 outfield players as Flanagan is so bad it is almost a joke. He can’t tackle he can’t pass and only he knew what position he was playing.
Oxford must have scratched their heads at halftime after a well worked free kick and goal from Baka put us ahead.
For once the team management recognised the problem and hooked Flanagan at halftime and got it right. Kieron Morris made a real difference and suddenly we played more on the front foot across the entire team and we took control and then Ozzy did a typical Ozzy and won the ball somehow from their defender twice his size after a good through ball from Leahy and turned him and lobbed the keeper. He can be a genius sometimes.
They scored from a free kick shot a la Ozzy and then threw everyone at us to get a goal but we threw bodies and rode our luck a bit. Flo made us look a bit stronger as well when he came on- nice to see.
In a turbulent week the win was vital. Losing the game would have been another negative that would have drained confidence even more.
Not trying to be too upbeat because we have no cover at CB or anything that replaces Ismail or enough firepower up front.
How can the management not have had a Plan B as they knew the loan players were going?
Feels too much like flying by the seat of your pants rather than a professional club looking to progress and improve.
Attended the fans focus meeting and took away that I have some renewed faith with the performance of Director LT who has the cojones to tell JB to pull his finger out for the club going forward.
