I'm sure that Cully will be met at the station by the Lord Mayor of Chester and then travel in the mayoral Rolls-Royce to the Deva Stadium.
It's not every day that Chester is honoured by a visit from such a distinguished V.I.P.! :D

Are many going to this? I'll reserve my judgement until a few games into the season however this will probably be the only pre season I'll be attending.

Starting XI: Liam Roberts, Kinsella, Wilson, Guthrie, Leahy, Chambers, Flanagan, Kouhyar, Edwards, Jackson, Oztumer.
"Official" Bench (if Wednesday is anything to go by, there'll be more options): Hayles-Docherty, Cockerill-Mollett, Candlin, Peters, Sangha, Bakayoko, Morris, Devlin.
Good to see Kouhyar get a start in a full-ish team. Hopefully, he'll be pushing Morris for a place when the season starts.

Candlin on as a substitute wins it with a late goal....well done young man. Not a full team by any means so a decent result. It will be interesting to see the comments of those who went.

Re: Chester (A) Saturday 22nd July, 3pm
Not a great performance. Defence solid again, two centre halves were very impressive. Going forwards we were again really poor though, Flanagan wasn't great, Oztumer struggled to get into the game, Edwards isn't a winger and Maz is promising but still raw. Jackson was anonymous with a terrible penalty saved too.
We controlled the ball for long periods as we were defensively sound but it was painful trying to watch us create and it only got better when we added pace and direct running with Devlin and Morris, and surprisingly, with Oztumer off the pitch (though through no fault of his own). Candlin was tidy and took his goal well too, easily looked the best out of the 3 strikers that played (in that he actually did something!).
For me actually, our number 1 target shouldn't be a striker, but a winger. We only really have Oztumer and Morris who can actually create chances, so it doesn't matter who is actually trying to get on the end of a chance if we aren't even creating them.

What did we learn from today...we would be comfortable in the Conference! Unfortunately we have to compete in league 1 with this squad.
Defensively sound and we were the better team in the first half, then the Whitney half time team talk happens and we look second best. It's painful watching Simeon Jackson, he is dreadful, no one could gave had confidence in him stepping up and slotting that penalty in. Their trial use keeper must gave been rubbing his hands at the opportunity to look great.
In regards to recent comments about Morris I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and put forward a revolutionary idea. As he is predominantly left footed we could try and okay him on the left!
New guys looked good and Wilson seems to do more talking than Chambers. Kouyhar gave a good account of himself and Candlin achieved more in his first minute in the pitch than Jackson had in the 70/75 minutes he had. Flanagan definitely has a pass in him in the final 3rd, the issue is he is poor in the other 2.
I am preparing to be bored a lit this season.

Re: Chester (A) Saturday 22nd July, 3pm
Great that we've got a young striker coming through and the fact that "the wind" has bagged three in two games suggests he knows where the net is.
But....... we surely can't be pinning our hopes on such a young and inexperienced lad. We were promised a new striker by Whitney when Makris was sold. Looks like that isn't happening. We also desperately need a central midfielder.
I enjoyed watching us the other night against The Villa. Some signs of hope and after losing to Solihull, at least we beat a Conference side yesterday. But my search for reasons to be optimistic is yielding only very very slim pickings.

It was only a friendly match wasn't it? Nothing like The Real Thing, a 70's soul group who achieved some success with hits such as 'You to me are every thing' which hit number 1 in 1976.

I'm too hungover to think about the negatives, so here are some positives.
1. Candlin.
2. Bakayoko's hold up play was good
3. Liam Roberts looked solid in goal
4. Jackson only missed one penalty
5. The defence looks solid
6. Devlin gets forward and shoots in the way that McCarthy did
See, 6 positives, I didn't think when reading those posts above that I'd get 6.
