Chesterfield (A) League One, Tues 16 Aug, 7.45pm
A chance to leapfrog over the team immediately above us (in alphabetical terms) in League One as we travel to the town with the twisted spire. Chesterfield finished last season in 18th place 7 points above the relegation zone, after Danny Wilson was appointed Manager on Christmas Eve last year. This could be considered something of an improvement on what their fate might have been had Dean Saunders stayed as manager.....as it is, Chesterfield becomes Danny Wilson's 9th club since he started in management in 1994. Previous history for Dean Saunders shows that he was appointed Manager at Doncaster Rovers in September 2011, after they had sacked a certain Sean O'Driscoll. Chesterfield's current form:
6 Aug Oxford United (A) League One, Drew 1-1
9 Aug Rochdale (A) League Cup, Lost 3-1
13 Aug Swindon Town (H) League One, Won 3-1
Recent happenings at Chesterfield? Well, there was the murky incident of their conduct of a raffle to accompany the squad on the pre-season tour of Hungary - won by a Surrey-based supporter who, it was said, couldn't travel because of illness - and then was revealed not to exist!!
The other potentially controversial item during the close season was their signing of Ched Evans. No further comment there, except that he is already their top scorer with 2 League One goals, and his re-trial is set for 4th October.
Chesterfield's highly competent goalkeeper Tommy Lee is currently out with a shoulder injury, so Ryan Fulton has joined them on a season-long loan from Liverpool. A familiar face in their squad would be Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, but he hasn't figured this season as yet.
By all accounts our "gelling process" improved as the game went on at Oldham, and on current form we will need all the gelling we can get hold of to bring back 3 points from this match. However, the showing of Franck Moussa and Andreas Makris is encouraging, and I think the major problem will be one of keeping a clean sheet. On the basis of the very old saying that if you win your home games and draw the away games you will end up as champions, I'll go for a 1-1 draw here, with Makris opening his Saddlers' account.

I'd love to think we could replicate the result from last season (1-4) but I have a feeling they'll be right up for this one.
There were some tasty events in last seasons fixture as Donohue got red carded after objecting to one of our goal celebrations and swinging a punch (badly aimed by the way!) - So I think it'll maybe give them an added dose of motivation!!
Perhaps not surprisingly, Ched Evans is going about making a name for himself again (as a footballer) and is clearly on form in the early part of the season so I hope he'll have a bad day at the office otherwise I can see this being a difficult game for us.
I'll go for an optimistic 1-1 with Makris on the score-sheet :)

1-1 for me, Evans for them and Moussa for us.
It'll be interesting to see whether Whitney plays McCarthy LB or if he drafts in Callum Cockerill-Mollett.
Fed up of going to Chesterfield though. This must be our 3rd visit in 6 months right?

I'm in with the home support this evening due to my Father-in-law being a Spireite, I'll obviously miss being in the away end but do enjoy listening to our lot singing, especially the old classic "You can stick you crooked spire up ya arse - (sideways)".

Re: Chesterfield (A) League One, Tues 16 Aug, 7.45pm
Feeling positive about this one tonight, shame we will be without Oztumer however!
I'd go with the following team..
Etheridge
Edwards O'connor Preston McCarthy
Osbourne Cuvellier (Chambers if fit)
Morris Moussa
Makris
Jackson
Don't think Cuvellier has been getting much joy out on the wing, would personally like to see him through the centre a bit more and with Osbourne sitting deep. Moussa has to start on the wing, brilliant against Oldham, and I think Morris needs to play as he can always create something, and looks dangerous cutting into his left from the right.
Makris has done enough to show that he has class, and looks after the ball very well. From this i'd be happy to see him in the number 10 role just behind Jackson. Bakayoko would be a great option off the bench as well to freshen things up a little!
Leaving around 4:30, full car, so that's at least 5 in the away end! be loud, be proud! UTS

Going forward I think we have more than enough to cause Chesterfield plenty of problems, however our defence terrifies me at the moment. I thought Oldham caused us a few problems without actually playing good football.
If Evans isolates our centre backs I think we may be in trouble. 3-2 loss.

JW seems to be using the first few games as friendly games, which is odd as he got his squad together in plenty of time.Hopefully the more games they play the better they will gel, could take a couple of months though.I think a draw would be a good result tonight.

1-1 seems an almost inevitable outcome, which would be a good result whilst we don't have Henry or Messi.
Going tonight, though I have some bad feelings about the 'actual' outcome, but, it's still early in the season and we will have to lose sometime, still positive though! :D First visit to the new ground, since leaving Yorkshire it's not as convenient.
Lets hope the A6 aye as bad as the M6 was on Saturday!

Would be the first of his numerous red cards this season, but Oh what a joy it would be to see!

2-1. O'Connor Makris
V disappointed not be there. Missed Oldham because of illness as well. At least unlike Saturday I hadn't got a ticket for tonight.

I agree. On the right and Moussa in the hole, played well there in the second half on Saturday according to most.

If bbc sport is to be believed it seems like a real end to end game with us going close from range several times. Lets get one before half time!

Chesterfield yellow card, 36 min - midfielder Jon Nolan
39 minutes, and we have our 1st corner.....
Half-time and it's 0-0. Match odds are now 2.3 fav The Draw, 2.7 Chesterfield, 3.7 Walsall. I'm almost tempted.......

Just got in.....i think this is the most inexperienced side we have put out for years and the bench is very young too.....what a start for JW in his managerial career. Lets hope we can get the unfit players fit as soon as possible.
