Yeovil Town (H) EFL Cup, Tues 9th August 7.45pm
After our winning start in League One, we welcome the Glovers to fortress Banks's in the 1st round of what I still call the League Cup. Yeovil have had a definite roller-coaster ride in the last few seasons, culminating in a year in the Championship (2013/14) followed by back-to-back relegations to League 2, where they too had a winning start to their League programme:
6 Aug Notts County (H) Won 2-0
By all accounts they were easy winners against the Magpies, who had the effrontery to be 3-0 up against ourselves at one stage in the pre-season friendly. Perhaps that goes to show that we shouldn't read too much into pre-season friendlies!! In fairness, it should be added that Notts County's goalkeeper virtually gifted them the first goal and was arguably at fault with the second.
Nevertheless, it shouldn't be assumed that Yeovil will be a pushover. They will want to progress in this competition, if for no other reason than a need for income - in view of their decline from the Championship it's interesting to see their average attendance figures:
2012/13 League One 4,072
2013/14 Championship 6,589
2014/15 League One 4,342
2015/16 League Two 3,936
Attendance for their opener last Saturday was 3,715.
Jon Whitney has what he would no doubt describe as the best kind of selection headache - does he change a winning team, or shuffle the pack a little to accommodate the club's record signing (assuming match fitness)? Not for us to say........
Prediction time, and I would hope that we can repeat the weekend's result without giving any penalties away - so I'll go for a 2-0 home win, with Jackson and Makris on the mark.

Hard fought 2-1 win to the Saddlers.
Morris with a screamer & Jackson with a pen (If Ozzy doesn't now take them by default?)
I would expect to see Dobson / Makris get a run out replacing Flo / Osbourne at some point if not from the start.
Are we likely to see Etheridge on the bench?

2 Games in 4 days always seems a bit harsh to me on the first week of the season.
Hoping for a progress against the Glovers. 2 - 1 Edwards and Bakayoko.

Think i'd rest a number of players for this one to keep them fit and use it to get a few more fit
Would probably rest Chambers and Flo to keep them fit and give Makris and Moussa at least 60 minutes to get their fitness levels up
Etheridge
Edwards
Preston
Mccarthy
Rico
Dobson
Osbourne
Messi
Moussa
Morris
Makris

Hmmm - the M formation.
My dad always goes on about Murray, McMorran and Middleton not to mention Meath and McEwan (I think)
0-0 they win on pens.

No doubt. You always can unless it's a 'big' game

Will take any sort of win, lets face it, it won't match last years first round.
Hugely rotated team and hardly anyone there....UTS.

Whitney says he is ringing the changes so I'm going into it expecting most of our reserves out.
MacGillivray
Kinsella
Preston
McCarthy
Henry
Ginnelly
Dobson
Chambers
Moussa
Bakayoko
Makris
A good old 442, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see Makris on the bench and Kouyhar in behind Bakayoko in our standard formation of 4231.

A departure from my usual routine tonight - the rest of the family isn't coming.
So straight out of work into Wetherspoons for 3 pints and a steak, then cycle to Bescot for the match.
If you see some idiot Wobbling Up The Wednesbury Road in the next half hour, give me a wave!

just a thought. if it's called the EFL cup does it stand for english league cup? if so then even the sponsors have lost interest in it :|

It does get confusing with a different sponsor every season, but tonight is the Capital One/Carling/Worthington Cup. They should just stick to its original name (league cup), especially when there is now the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. Either way, I doubt the attendance will be half as big as Saturday unfortunately.
As for the Emirates FA Cup..
Football is becoming far too commercial.

Yes, I'm far more into Whitters dad's McMorran, Middleton, Murray etc (& I think it was Mc Pherson!) but I'm obviously as old, and our memories fade!
Wish I still lived in gods own shite town when there are matches gewin on.

The sale of Gay Meadow funded the move out of town at the end of the 2006-7 season. Demolition followed, and the site is now occupied by buildings containing 150 flats.

The BBC stats don't look good
Have we actually sent a team out on to the field, or are Yeovil just having a kick about to themselves?

Perhaps Whitney is trying a 0 0 10 formation hoping that a ball eventually rebounds off our goalie and we can rush forward en-mass!

My god, the BBC live stats are an embarrassment.
If this continues, at least this will be one cup competition we won't have to worry about!

Re: Yeovil Town (H) EFL Cup, Tues 9th August 7.45pm
First yellow card of the game on 40 minutes - Yeovil the culprits (Kevin Dawson, foul on Oztumer)
Half-time sees a 0-0 scoreline. At kick-off Walsall's odds were 1.72, and now they've lengthened to 2.3 - may be worth a small dabble?
I'll be interested in seeing whether Jon Whitney changes things around for the 2nd half....bring on Amadou and/or Makris perhaps??

Second half under way - no changes on the pitch.
Interestingly I note that while we have named 7 substitutes, Yeovil Town only have 5. Short staffed? :?
