Looks like we are heading for our second away defeat of the season and its April! If you had forecast that in the Summer I would have said you were mad! Keep the faith.....

Tend to agree now, they've got to play Barnsley, Wigan, and Gillingham. As I just mentioned, I worry about us allowing Gillingham back in.

We had a 'proper' manager. His record was 5-5-4.

Whitney got it all wrong. Wrong formation, wrong team selection.

On this performance the only place Sawyers will end up is Brentford.

Apparently Bury had a goal disallowed when winning 1-0  .

That equaliser in some ways is more disappointing than our result, as we had effectively lost the match at half time. I look forward to hearing the opinions of those that were there, but it does seem that we showed them far too much respect with our defensive formation in the first half. Flanagan has potential but throwing him in today [I don't he has played since his mistake led to that late Swindon winner in November] seemed a bit odd.

Still, we changed it a bit at half time so hopefully JW will not be trying that again. Onwards to Boundary Park.

We were shite today and I hate to single anyone out but Reece Flanagans League 1 career could well have gone down the swanny today. Why he was drafted in after being out the picture for so long is anyones guess, we should have started with Hiwula and attacked a team void of any confidence right from the off.

Just back in. We were the better team for 25 mins playing our normal passing game with Sheff Utd chasing us. We had a couple of opportunities but never got really close. Chose the wrong formation despite the start as we were suddenly opened up down the left and gifted them two goals. The change at half time was obvious but we were never going to score. The ref was just about the worst I have ever seen. Sheff U spent the whole of the second half time wasting and fouling. How they never had more bookings is beyond me. Shame about the late equiliser at Burton.

What the hell is wrong with the people we put in charge of this team? Why change it so drastically?
Apparently he watched Sheff u at Southend? If so why not realise they are totally devoid of confidence and go for them?
It's a simple game really.

In defence though it really doesn't help us to have 4 of our best players jetting off all over the globe at this time of year.

Just got back

Actually really angry about today's game, to be outplayed and out battled by a team with pretty much nothing to play for was scandalous.

Team selection was bizarre , Flanagan???? That one selection lost us the game harsh I know but true.

Sawyers and Mantom completely invisible and I hate to say it didn't look at a all interested at times.

Shocking day and unfortunately our automatic promotion hopes over. This team has the quality but not the desire to get over the line I'm afraid.

Also the referee was perhaps the worst yes the worst I have ever seen! So biased it was untrue..

Didn't lose because of a referee, the supporters wanted an ambitious, enthusiastic physio rather than an experienced, knowledgeable football coach.....we decided to leave all our attacking players on the bench when we have had a season of attacking flowing football away from home....

A non-attacking line up invites the physical opponents to be direct....cheered on by the home crowd. Poor decision making...

Just back and what a shocker that was

I don't wanna be too down though because there's a long way to Ho looking at the last few weeks results!
Few things I need to get off my chest tho!!

Like others I'm baffled by the starting line up today - I'll give Witters the benefit of having a crafty tactic up his sleeve but whatever it was it clearly totally backfired.. Young Flanaghan was truly awful but he wasn't alone tbh... Sawyers yet again was dreadful and needs a boot up the arse in my opinion - he again sleepwalks through a game and stays on the field..

Mantom was very average and downing not much better but what I'm really really worried about us that we reverted back to the bloody long ball to a lone Tom Bradshaw up front!!!!

Cmon guys we just know that's a cack strategy so let's get back to the stuff that works for us eh???

I have to say that Wigan are gonna walk to the title and we have to play well for the remaining games to keep the chasing pack at bay.

Haven't posted for a while but after today's performance I thought I should.

As soon as the team was announced you could sense a bit of disbelief. I was with my Dad and his mate in the Sheffield Tap (top class pub) and we were all trying to get our heads round why Flanagan started. Not played since November, so why put him in? Whitney has claimed its because he has done well in training - forgot we were playing under 11s...

I admire Whitney's positivity but today he really showed his inability. I accept when we lose to decent opposition, but Sheffield United weren't that at all. They had two decent chances and scored both of them.

It says a lot when we lose 2-0 and our MOTM was out centre back. Thought Pennington was class today. I would definitely pair him with O'Connor when he is fit. Downing played okay but his distribution is shocking. Why did he insist on playing the long ball to Henry?

Mantom chases shadows and was not involved at all today. Wasn't involved against Colchester either but got away with it. Compared to Evans you can see why he is playing in League 1 and why Evans has made the step up.

Not really much else to say. Bradshaw was isolated. Sawyers was dropping deep to get the ball but we had no width to attack with. Milan and Forde should have come on about 10-15 minutes earlier but neither really did much when they came on. Thought Chambers played well but only so much you can do when you have literally got no other players around you.

Really really annoyed with today. So frustrating. Nothing wrong with settling for the play-offs but we threw points away today before the whistle even blew.

A word about the Sheffield United fans... 19k there with absolutely no atmosphere. Shocking. Nice stadium though and had a good view. Those were probably the only positives.

When we come to the realization that we need an experienced, tactically savvy football coach....rather than a physio whose ambition overreaches his capability.....

....we will then reflect on how inspiring a place we have made Walsall as seeing as we sack managers after having only just appointed them.

Two entities scored own goals, damaging their own long term interests.... Dean Smith and Walsall f.c. (including the illiterate, clueless supporters who supported a decision of folly)

But I expect most of you will not grasp this for another 6 months at least, I'll meet you at the station in six months or so when you catch up....that is those of you who don't hop on the wrong train altogether.

Got to agree that the ref was crap but not sure about the biased comment although he did give them much more than us which was poor given they committed dozens of fouls today..

It's not sour grapes either but they were a spoiling team who took advantage of the ref perfectly... He got sucked into their tactics and when he started giving us a few free kicks he was giving them every few minutes.. Crap game with crap officials and as others have commented, 2 shots 2 goals says it all

I hope we do catch the Brewers but we will need to get this out of our system quickly because we were v poor today and repeats of that style and quality and we will be in poor shape for the playoffs never mind the auto place... I don't mean we won't make them it's just that the po's are all about momentum - that's what gets teams promoted in the final stages of the season..

We were not completely shite today but we weren't exactly very good either. It was a poor game in which Sheff Utd got everything from a referee who couldn't ref a game down Goals. Genuinely, where do they find these utter rim jobs?

Neither keeper really had save to make, the two chances in the game they scored from. The second was a class finish but the way Rico Henry was turned inside out by the Chris Basham (a Centre back) was laughable.

Why he picked Flanagan and tried to play a 3 5 1 1 im not sure, it totally put us out of kilter. If you gonna play 3 5 2 play 2 strikers.

We looked slightly better at 4 4 2 but we wouldn't have scored if we played till ten o clock. The service to Bradshaw is criminal. We might as well play Preston up front (sad thing is im not joking) if we are going to lump it long all game. Sawyers was poor today but when he got the ball there wasnt anyone to pass too. Demetriou just looks like his lungs and legs have gone, and Mantom actually only has one speed. I bet he pods around doing his shopping at the same pace.

A Plus though, i thought Pennington was very good. An extremely tidy player. A fine addition to the squad.

Sheffield is still the same old crud hole full of backwards mongs.

hopefully whit's will have learned from this.
1 flannagan is not a league one player
2 don't tinker to much with a winning team
3 we are better at attacking
4 sawyers needs a wake up call. i know he has traveled a lot over the last week. but he has been pretty poor for a couple of games. and i am one of his biggest fans
we still have 2 games in hand. if we win them both then we are only 1 point off second place. we are miles apart in quality over burton. trust me we will finish above them whether it be second third or fourth

haven't read in full whats been said on here yet

went today but something was niggling me I wasn't getting a good vibe about this match then we got into ground and heard that Chesney was in the starting 11 which completely threw me.

I'm not going to lambast the lad as hes probably a great kid but hes not had a sniff of being around the first team and you couldn't have given him a bigger match to start in.

I'm not going to ssingle him out but boy was he poor in the 45 mins we had to endure of him.
hes a mid table league 2 player at best but you still have to get behind them as theyre our players.
thought that was whitneys first proper mistake today. having said that there really wasn't a man of the match out there today.

we were like a flat bottle of pop no sparkle no fizz no flicks and tricks no pace just statuesque like we are at home matches.
this 2 week lay off has done us no good at all.

I'm not going to be down hearted a lot of points to play for but 78 points is achievable and would give us a play off spot as I cannot see Barnsley getting 16 points from 21 available.

finally special mention to pillock of the week the referee.
ive never seen anyone put a whisle in their mouths as much as he did.
a definite homer of a ref if ever I saw one.
