Fleetwood Town (H) Emirates F.A.Cup, 7th Nov, 3pm
A brief respite from League One action as we look down from our lofty perch on the opening salvos of the F.A.Cup and we welcome the Cod Army from Fleetwood, currently managed by Stephen Pressley (late of Coventry City) following Graham Alexander's sacking a month ago after three years in charge. Pressley's comment after their recent win at Barnsley was that it was "winning ugly", but he didn't mind that at all. Fleetwood are unhappily placed in the relegation zone of League One and have suffered extreme swings in form, as their recent results show:
6 Oct Shrewsbury Town (H) F.L.Trophy, Won 2-1
10 Oct Coventry City (H) League One, Lost 0-1
17 Oct Burton Albion (H) League One, Won 4-0
20 Oct Sheffield United (A) League One, Lost 3-0
24 Oct Barnsley (A) League One, Won 0-1
31 Oct Chesterfield (H) League One, Lost 0-1
The result that stands out is that 4-0 win against Burton Albion, and that demonstrates that Fleetwood (on their day) will be no pushover. They currently have two Premiership defenders on loan from Stoke City and Leicester City in an attempt to plug the leaks in a defence that has conceded 24 League One goals so far. Scoring (apart from the Burton game) has been difficult, with their two leading scorers managing 4 goals each, Grant (midfielder) and Proctor (striker) responsible.
Last time we played Fleetwood at home was in April, when a Tom Bradshaw goal on 86 minutes brought three points our way and kept Fleetwood just outside the play-off zone.
You probably won't need reminding that last season's F.A.Cup involvement for us was short-lived, with a 1-0 defeat to the Sloppies in a replay that saw us end up with 10 men following Adam Chambers' dismissal. On current form we should improve on that performance and make an appearance in the 2nd round, and I think a 2-0 result is achievable (Bradshaw/Sawyers to score).
Or should we roll over, and concentrate on League One?

There's a whole week until the next game, so I'd play a full strength team barring one or two.

I agree. Decent money to be made by even the most modest of FA Cup runs and we need to be in a position to be talking contract extensions with three or four key players before January arrives.
Also, there's some potentially great days out for us lot on the back of a cup run.

Would love us to progress, just to get closer to a 3rd round glamour tie. Can understand why some of our fans wouldn't want us to risk key players when our league position is so strong. Can't see the gate being over 3,000, but I will be there nonetheless!

Talk of dismissing the cup is madness! Who knows where we'll be in 10 games time, O.K. we've had an amazing start to the season but we must keep our heads screwed on!
If we start to drop down the standings a cup run would be great (both would be awesome!).
Walsall 3 - 1 Fleetwood.
Bradshaw hatrick.

Full strength squad.
(Cup tie Evans - if we are allowed)
3-1 to us.
Bradshaw x 2, Morris to ping in another.

You saying that has changed my opinion, if we get a decent little cup run and if all it produces is enough money to sign sawyers on a 2 year deal I'll be happy.

Potentially, two weeks now the Shrewsbury game has been postponed.

This.
A big tie in round 3 could also mean extra cash for Dean to strengthen for a promotion push if he needs to.
We must have cleared a few quid from the Chelsea game.

Re: Fleetwood Town (H) Emirates F.A.Cup, 7th Nov, 3pm
I reckon we should definitely play a full strength team and go for it (and lots of goals) for the following reasons:
1. If Tom could grab one or a few it would tee him up nicely for the Wales squad
2. We've effectively got a break after the match so any niggles picked up can be sorted
3. If any of the call up boys get a knock, the next game is off anyway now so again, time for it get sorted (extra week anyway.)
4. Good cup runs are always important for us regardless of our league performances/position - the pure financial side is a motivator in itself
5. Someone else mentioned the cash in respect of contract extensions etc as we move into January - it's a really good point and if we are doing well with a great chance of promotion/play offs etc, players will want to be part of that so would hopefully grab the opportunity of a contract extn and potential success to go with it..
6. Form is a huge factor - a cup win is another win and we all know how it works
So, IMHO a first team run out and a decent crowd is what's needed
Bit of a bugger about the Shrewsbury match but lets take the positives!

Correct. It's a means to earn some cash to strengthen our squad. Away at Everton or Newcastle in round 3 for me please.

No, has to be Man Utd every time, they would get 75000 there just to see the opening of an envelope!

The FA Cup should always be taken seriously and I would be very surprised if we did not play a full strength team. So, a narrow, nervy, stuttering 1-0 win it is, with Sawyers for us, in front of 2,370, including 105 from Fleetwood.

Personally, I'd like Swansea City in the 3rd round (I wonder why?)
However, United would be good as a) I've got rellies who live round that way b) bigger crowd and c) we'd have a better chance of winning if it was United rather than Swansea

No it doesn't. Been there, done that.
Some of us want to tick more grounds off watching Walsall, hence why I'm in full agreement with aaaae.
Anyway, Fleetwood won't be easy. Gotta beat them first.

Exactly! I'm giving up hope of ever seeing us play at Goodison, mind you, I thought that about Wembley too.

Looks a good strong statement of intent. Pretty much our strongest 11(Minus Mantom). Expect a win today by at least 3 clear :-)
