Nottingham Forest (A) Capital One Cup, Tues 11 Aug 7.45pm
The start of another Cup run? Possibly, although by the law of averages Forest are probably due for a win in their sequence of matches against us......
Forest started their League programme a day early, losing 1-0 to Chris Hughton's Brighton team. Jamie Paterson came on as a substitute in the 81st minute but the damage had already been done and he couldn't make any difference. One player who won't feature for them is midfielder Robert Tesche, who suffered a broken foot in that game. Tyler Walker also came on as a substitute - older readers will remember his father, Des Walker.
We came through the Oldham fixture with no apparent injury concerns (surprisingly so, in view of their physical presence and application), so Dean Smith may be weighing up the striker choices. If Milan Lalkovic is truly match-fit he could well start in place of Cook, who had a pretty undistinguished game.
Predictions? Head and heart both say we haven't got much chance despite our good record against Forest, but you never know - I'll hope for a repeat of the Oldham result........

It also says that m atch-day prices are in brackets.....but there are no brackets!!!
Tickets are on general sale.

Going to be a very interesting one, especially if they play Antonio in a 433. Having him wide left in the gap behind Demetriou and Downing if we do play the 352 could be disastrous, so it will be interesting to see how Deano tries to deal with it.

The double against these in the early rounds of the league cup remains in my top 10 Saddlers moments - think it was the Big Fat Jan era - dreadful league performances but good in the cups.
Looking forward to a decent day out....just can't see our ridiculous run against Forest continuing unfortunately.

It's a fiver less than these prices if you are a season ticket holder.

I did see that, but I presume that would apply if you were a Nottingham Forest season ticket holder, and I don't think many on the UTS board would qualify (with the probable exception of Bitter Tree Hugger!!!). :D

It says on our OS that you get the discount if your a season ticket holder too! So it must be the same offer to both sets of fans. I think they are obliged to do that.

Should have seat numbers but unless you bring 4000 there shouldn't be a problem.

I have a sneaky feeling we might win.
2-1. Forde and a Downing header for us. Pato for them.

Disappointed not to be going to this.
I worry about a fired up Paterson up against either no full back or a Demetriou/Downing or Taylor/Henry confusion.
But as it's forest I'll go for a win on pens.

Only been following Walsall properly since 2007 so haven't seen that many games v Forest as they went up in 2007/08, how bad is their actual run in this game?

No doubt that the "stattos" on this board will correct me if I'm wrong but I think that we never beat Forest in the 20th Century and they have never beaten us (so far) in the 21st Century.

According to the BBC website "Walsall are unbeaten in their last eleven games against Nottingham Forest".

Nah, 1997 we won at the City Ground in this competition (either Carling or Coca-Cola Cup at the time). A sublime Justin Skinner header from a sultry Peron cross.

1-0 to keep the run against Forest going :) with Bradshaw for us, in front of 6,500, including 700 Saddlers.
But then , we might lose 3-0 :(

I recall them beating us 2-0 at home in RG's first season in the Championship in early 2000. They did the league double over us that season but we have remained undefeated in league and cup since.

I'm off with some Florist supporting mates so i'll be in their end.
5 nil to us with me doing my best to look disgusted.
