Depends if we can get a striker in before the weekend. I am a bit worried about the likes of Allison now Ropes is out. Westwood was excellent last night but it's a different trying to cope with Allison compared to a weak Barnsley forward line.
Chesterfield are a decent side. We may get a draw but I think they'll be too much for us without Ropes.

Can't see us winning the game don't think many can to be honest, as MMF said Allison could be a handful or several hands full without Roper. But forget them what will Merse do will he play James or Devlin upfront unfortunately I've missed both games he has been upfront but I've heard good things about him.
I think it'll be a 1-1 draw

Don't forget when he scored the third here, Allison outjumped Gerrard by a foot, which shows his danger! Let's also hope, in the absence of Fox, that they play Hall as a striker, not a right winger.

Ominous to say the least, their two strengths Hall and Allison up against our two weaknesses - short centre-halves and no left full-back. I think if they play well we will have major problems because I doubt we have the options to keep them quiet them for 90 minutes. Just hope they have an off day and we have enough up-front to cause them some problems.
Problem is you then look to our midfield and attack and see four wingers, one striker, Timm (whatever he is) and Leary and Standing as the only available centre-midfielders. Surely James has to start up-front, probably ahead of Timm, in what (Leary accepted) looks like a very flimsy 4-4-1-1, or 4-5-1. Could have really done with Harkness at left-back to keep Smith in midfield.
I think we might atart with 3 right wingers, one up-front, one in a midfield 5, and wait for it......one on the right wing.

Is it going to be safe?
I took my young lad up to the game last year and on our way out were stopped at the end of the road by police, as were a lot of other Walsall supporters. We were allowed to carry on after about ten minutes but there was no reason given by the police for keeping us there. Reading the front page review tonight makes me wonder whether I should take my boy into the stands!
I have been up to Chesterfield loads of times before for matches is there any reason why I should be worried about taking my son to this game or am I being paranoid? :?

Agree with MMF, as I said in the pub-guide Chesterfield had for a few years previous been a quite friendly away trip. There were no problems in 97 under BFJ or the first Graydon promotion season when we beat them.
Last season there were several away games where Walsall Youth were prominant, and this was one of them. The Chesterfield police over-reacted and tarred everyone with the same brush. I would never stand for any heavy-handedness from the police, especially if you've got kids with you. Last season a few "normal" fans who's had a drink reacted to the police and ended up getting short-shrift. That is excatly what the police want in these circumstances as it justifies their presence and the whole things gets blown out of proportion. I would expect a more convivial atmosphere tomorrow as there have been few problems at our away games since, only Peterborough springs to mind at the end of last season and again that was summat and nowt. Several of our largest away followings have visited this neck of the woods - Rotherham and Barnsley - without any problems, so I think our reputation has been repaired to some extent.
Don't forget our own police regularly travel away with our fans and know when the yoof have had a few too many wine gums on the train which was the case last year.
I always find if you are polite but firm with the police and bouncers (even in circs like last season) you usually get where you want to be, which in my case is usually on the opposite platform to everyone else via the nearest pub! pretty essential really.
I wouldn't be surprised if the pubs stopped pulling at 2 again tomorrow, but it's not the end of the world! Not for me anyway I'm going to get a pint in Newcastle and jump on the train at 12.25!! Stuff the pub guide.

Just because there is past history with the Spireshites doesn't mean there is giong to be trouble.
Last year's policing antics were as a result of Walsall Yoof misbehaving big style on the train. Chesterfield have got their share of nutters but in general, like most places, trouble won't find you unless you go looking for it.

I think there a huge old factory site to the North of the town that they're looking at as a possible new ground.
We just need Geoff to moan about the wooden seat fire hazzard now. If he will sit in the posh seats to avoid the rain even though it ended up a nice sunny day for us in the open. :D
