Colchester Utd (A) League One Jan 17th, 3pm
October 21st 2014 is the date that Walsall and Colchester United have reason to remember - it's the date of Walsall's most recent away defeat in a League One game (Crawley, 1-0) and it's also the date of Colchester's most recent home win in the League (Chesterfield 2-1), so it seems that something might give. Colchester are currently 22nd in the table, 6 points behind us and with a goal difference of -11. Top scorer Freddie Sears had 13 goals to his name but has been transferred to Ipswich Town this week. Recent form:
13 Dec Rochdale (H) Lost 1-4
20 Dec Yeovil Town (A) Won 0-1
26 Dec Gillingham (H) Lost 1-2
28 Dec Crawley (A) Drew 0-0
2 Jan Cardiff City (A) Lost 3-1 (F.A. Cup 3rd round)
10 Jan Peterborough Utd (A) Won 0-2
Do those performances ring a bell??? Consistently poor at home and yet very reasonable away (the 6-0 thumping at MK Dons has slipped out of the "recent form" sequence above). They've only managed to win 2 League One games at home out of 11 played, which would suggest a good chance of 3 points for us. However this is Walsall we're talking about, and so much depends on which particular Saddlers team turns up on the day.
I haven't heard of any major new injury worries to affect Dean Smith's plans (A, A or A), so I'll stick my neck out and confidently predict a 1-3 away win, with Bradshaw, Cook and Cain on the scoresheet.

Yow got a new batch Welsh? Can I have some? you know I've not been well, so it could be considered
'for medicinal reasons'!
I personally think plan 'A' will work, it has been sooo successful in recent home matches!

Even in this poor run of form it seems Walsall are rubbish season in season out at Colchester whatever the form. They also won 2-0 at Posh last game so not easy at all.
This is probably the one away fixture a season I'm never interested in going to, takes an age to get to and isn't the new souless ground in the middle of nowhere?
Anyway 1-1, Sawyers.

To stand a chance against Preston we must lose this one, then our inconsistency can continue by winning the next home leg.

One of the least interesting fixtures of the season along with Gillingham [in recent years], Crawley and Scunthorpe.
With all the JPT excitement around the club at the moment and the distraction it often brings, I'll take a 1-1 draw - Cook for us.

I'm going ..... but I haven't quite worked out why ??? It's about time we won down there so I'm going for a dull 1-0 win in freezing weather. Can't wait

Our chances appear to have significantly improved. Freddie Sears (scorer of 15 of Colchester's 29 goals this season) has gone to Ipswich so he will not be playing tomorrow. :D

Smith won't want another embarrassment. The defence will be as tight as a ducks proverbial with Adam Chambers and Cain not moving more than 3 yards towards the half way line. I'll go for a 0-0 bore draw. Can't make up my mind whether to go or not, it's 10 days before we play again :(

At kick-off Sky bookies have Walsall as narrow favourites for this one:
Colchester win: 13/8
The draw: 2/1
Walsall win: 6/4
(Sheff will be chuffed - Chelsea have taken the lead at Swansea after 49 seconds!!)

Shot from Jordan Cook smacks against the Colchester post..... 30 min
AND.....AND..... we then take the lead!!!!!! Colchester Utd 0 Walsall 1 (Forde, 32 min)
As things stand, we're 10th in the table, only 4 points from the play-offs......

Elsewhere, Scunthorpe Utd 0 Bristol City 1
Rochdale 1 Crawley 0
Gillingham 0 Coventry City 1
....and Sheff WILL be pleased - after 35 minutes it's Swansea City 0 Chelski 4
After 36 minutes Colchester's first foul of the game gets Clohessy booked.
