Prediction League 1 2014-15 Table & Intro!
Hi everyone! Hope you have had a good summer so far!
But, here we are again, a few days before the new season, and in the midst of worry over possibly how thin our squad is, where all our transfer money has gone, and why there are still no chips at the Bezzla, we have the shining light in the bushel that is the Prediction League for our league 1 season!
For those who are new to the site or not aware of what it is, it is basically a fun, no holds barred (!) prediction competition between posters on here based on predicting the correct result / scoreline of 3 league one fixtures of your choice from each fixture week (can be a Saturday or midweek set of fixtures). After 46 weeks we see who the winner is! Anyone and everyone is free to enter and as the weeks unfold, you'll see it get pretty fractious and tactical on here between people ( :D ) Below is the final table from last season's competition to remind people of who won / where you finished. This thread will be for table updates throughout the season (please sticky it moddys!)
The first week's prediction thread is up and running now so go to it to check out the rules and make your 3 predictions.
Final table from last season (you can see how close it was!):
Weekly winners list from last season:

I was hardly in the competition last year - and I still won 3 weeks.
Don't you feel inadequate Saigon, my perverted friend?
I'm in for the whole season this year - so get ready to have the floor wiped with your inflated ego!
:D

Yes, congratulations in a sense to Old Penk (lucky April) for stumbling desperately over the line after being miles ahead and having it in the bag. How much this took the shine off and sullied the technicality of 'winning' is hard to say. Thankfully, when I won I achieved this feat by an actual points margin and didn't have to effectively share and rely on some hidden rule in the small print to claim some kind of vestigial 'victory'.
Anyway, 'well done'.
And commiserations to Exile (lucky January) for finishing runner-up again (first loser) after being miles ahead (again) and crashing to earth (again) in spectacular fashion. When I won, I got ahead and stayed ahead for months, coming from 14 points behind and closing out the deal with considerably skill and no small measure of aplomb. Genius.
Genuinely, commiserations...
As for me, 3rd place again = consistency and yet another 'promotion placing'. I think I've only missed once in 8 seasons. Not relying on the fortunes of a single lucky week or fanciful run of correct scores, I think you'll find that no-one has attained as many correct actual results as me. I've also never missed even so much as a single prediction in 8 long seasons and going for the 9th.
So, consistency, reliability and talent. And I treat people with respect and I'm not arrogant or rude like so, so many of the other no-hopers and idiot predictors are on here.
Highlights: Smashing Manchester again for the fifth season running - now 6-2 (I was 1-2 down many, many moons ago). Cruising past also-rans like Crimson, Bentos and Johnny etc etc (it's a long list) again. Some of the regular predictors have never finished above me once (Asps).
1st, 2nd (twice) 3rd (twice) 4th, 5th etc
Anyway, bring it on losers! :D

with all due humility I shall throw my hat into the ring and, having witnessed the efforts of those who have participated for a number of years, am quietly confident. 8)

"I've seen angels fall from blinding heights,
But you yourself are nothing so divine,
Just next in line...
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you,
The odds will betray you,
And I will replace you.
I've seen this diamond cut through harder men,
Than you yourself,
But if you must pretend,
You may meet your end.
The coldest blood runs through my veins,
You know my name...
You know my name...
You know my naaaaaame...

This time I will predict all. Missed two matches last year and look at the result. My points per game consistency ranks me way ahead of Saigon 'consistent mediocrity' saddler, who can't even brag about a high score any more.

I predict Exile and Saigon Saddler will wait until I have posted each week before making their predictions.

That is a slur, and I demand it withdrawn as an absolute untruth! I'm in bed by the time you predict most weeks, and nobody sane would copy Saigon!
And thanks JJ. REALLY appreciate your work!

Cheers guys, thanks for your appreciation! Makes it worth doing, even when having to put up with Saigon's mad ramblings!!
Here is the table after yesterday's first week of predictions for the new season. Some of the big guns / favourites didn't get the results thought, so a mixed bag of scoring. A few blobs already ( :( ) but the week 1 winner was 1933 with 4 points, well done!
Week 2 thread will be set up Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks JJ, that explains another posters bitterness. He's like a dingle, thinks he's won the league with 3pts! It's a long old season. :D

No not scared, just giving you a head start!!
In all honesty, due to pow I forgot to post.
In such circumstances of forgetfulness or absenteeism it would be most welcome if one "Mulligan" per season is permitted whereby the missing predictor was awarded the average number of points for that week.

Here is the table after Saturday's games. Some pretty good scoring overall, as people had gone for a few 'home bankers' (it appears the culture of copying each other has already started to run rife!! ) but the winning score was 4 points, achieved by itasaddler, stig231 and SaddlerCrewe. Well done you three!
A few seasoned predictors joined the battle again for this new season - welcome back! Week 3 (this evening's games) is up and running so make sure you don't forget to get those predictions in!

Re: Prediction League 1 2014-15 Table & Intro!
Updated table after tonight's games. And it was a depressing night for more than just the Saddlers' result.
Only 1 home win and some teams still not really finding their form yet meant a really low night of scores. Over half of predictors scored a big, fat zero, and the winning score was a lowly 2 points - achieved by stig231, Exile, SaddlerCrewe, Rob Harvey, and me. Well done to us all!
The thread for this weekend's games (week 4) will be set up tomorrow.

That round win might prove valuable when you spring it on everyone as scoring criteria at the end of the season.
