We ain't all dogheads in Cannock - some of us are keeping the red flag flying high!
Just immense team performance - no dingle can say that we didn't deserve that as we were professional from start to finish. How Ikeme stayed on the pitch is beyond me though - how could that be anything but an intentional handball?
Good to see so many faces there tonight - a game to remember! Can't wait for work tomorrow!!!

What a performance.
Full credit to Dean and the lads, that was a textbook away performance against an on-paper superior team. On the field, we beat them in every department and fully deserved the win, no question.
We defended well, kept our shape, kept the ball, limited them to pot shots and crosses and had long periods of dominance. We hit the bar, hit the post, had about 7 corners and scored, and Lalkovic and Sawyers missed what I'd class as good chances.
Our gamesmanship was superb also, constantly slowing the rhythm of the game, knowing full well that if we let Wolves start to build momentum we would struggle.
Wolves lacked ideas and lacked heart. Their fans are atrocious - bar the opening "hi ho dinglehampton" chorus, they were silent for most of the first half, and only woke up once in the second. No wonder players dont put any effort in with fans like that, they really are scum. A few poor results and they'll be right on Jackett's back. 20,000 people and the place was silent except for Walsall fans. Shocking.
I really didnt expect Wolves to be that poor. They've got big issues at that club. Sako looks overweight, and they rely on him a log. Griffiths looks barclays and they seem to think Mcdonald is some kind of saviour.
As for us, Taylor, Butler, the Chambers twins all immense, solid 9/10 performances, except Butler who gets 10/10 and will now go down in Walsall folklore like Andy Rammell. Westcarr was solid, so were Featherstone and Mantom, and all round solid performance.
Going forward, we are in a similar position to previous years, we have the basis of a good team, but are lacking 1 or 2 skillful attackers. We had those 1 or 2 skillful attackers last season with Paterson reaching a level of performance that was Championship standard and Brandy - and during that period we were nigh-on unbeatable. Please just sign a couple of decent attackers and we are top 6 material!
Here's a video of the celebrations on a night that will live long in the memory:

A Graydonesque away performance tonight. Two away wins and two clean sheets in four days.
Butler MOTM for a masterful Captain's performance capped by his goal but O'Donnell's two saves at the end of the first half were crucial. The first one, from the free kick, was superb but the second, just on the stroke of half-time, was unbelievable.
Excellent substitution from Smith when he brought Hemmings off and replaced him with Baxendale - made things more fluid in the middle of the park.
Everyone played their part tonight - and got their just reward.

not too much in the way of flair tonight, but discipline, grit and commitment by the truckload. at 1 stage of the 1st half we passed the ball so well the ref dummied their midfield. taylor next for contract extension. disappointed with the paucity of booing on the final whistle. imagine being too depressed to boo!

Been critical of Deano's substitutions in the past but tonight he got it spot on and to be fair we could have made it two as lalkovic was just the right call at the right time too.
Great support tonight. I hope we can attract more than 4,000 Walsall fans on Saturday with it being a fun day and all. This team deserve backing.
Walk back to the station was a bit dicey, so hope everyone made it back OK as the police did their usual and hunted in big packs rather than spreading their resource evenly along the route. Walked to the ground in the big escort that arrived spot on kick-off. We nearly had a copper each!
Great night. Just magic.

Sexy football has its place. Tonight was about sexy defending. Their strike force cost £10m + and we kept them at bay without much concern. Inspirational. Like a whole back line of Tony Barrases.

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers (A) Tue 17 Sep, 7.45pm
Wow what a night!!
I live in Wolvo so it's even sweeter. I went to meet a mate in a pub in Tettenhall after the game, it was full of Wolves fans and my mate wasn't there when I got there, it was just so funny to hear the various groups moaning how a little team like us could go there and rob them, to be fair once I introduced myself to some they were fairly of the opinion that the best team won.
The team performance itself:
O'Donnell - was really on his game tonight I even recall him running out to the edge of his box to claim a ball in the first half, his save to deny one of the dingle dogs was superb.
Chambers- what a performance always wanted the ball always willing to make runs to support and get forward, read the game really well.
Downing - Did what he had to, nothing spectacular just solid.
Butler - I know there is a thread already about his legend status on this site and his performance tonight will do nothing to diminish that, he really loves what we are all about, he buys into our club and we love him for it.
Taylor- I think for me he was the MOTM he just broke things up time after time, putting a foot in or his body on the line, stunning performance.
Mantom - After a quiet start to the season for me, he really is back on song, back to the best of last seasons performances, battled, hassled and harried the dingles.
Chambers- A close second for MOTM, I just love him, he bossed the midfield. Simple
Featherstone - Another Downing for me, a quiet unsung hero, just gets on with his job, concentrates to the end and really made it difficult for Wolves to get going.
Westcarr- Was a bit off the pace at times in the first half I thought, great free kick though, better in the second half
Hemmings- I thought possibly our quietest player, lacked a bit of strength against some of their large defenders
Hewitt - Really got into it after the first half an hour, I thought he waited for the ball to come to him at times, but really started to hold the ball up to wait for the offensive midfielders to come into the attack.
Baxendale - He has to start on Saturday, doesn't he?
Sawyers - Had a chance to snatch a late goal for us.
Lalkovic- The enforced bench warming seems to have done him good ,seemed hungry for it, wanted to be part of it.
So overall the Saddlers fans were class, a great night, that is what supporting our club is all about.

Wolves were out-thought, out-passed, out-played and out-sung last night.
Marvellous!
We know the club read this site. I hope they read this thread to appreciate what last night, and what WFC, mean to us.

Oh what a night! We thoroughly deserved that win. I can't believe how poor Wolves were, absolutely shocking. Can't help but think they are going to be found out this season, despite playing their home games at Wembley! Franksy, your boys took one hell of a beating! Anyone else catch him saying in the build up that Wolves shouldn't be in this division? What an utter tool. I haven't seen many worse League 1 sides. I wonder if he was singing "You've won fudge all!" with the South Bank.
Our performance was brilliant, although we just need a bit more strength up front. Ali Brown would be ideal
Can't wait to watch the highlights!

Job done, 3 points collected and a good tactical display from the management team and a committed professional performance from the players. Shame it was only one nil in the end against the riff raff but hopefully we can smash a few in on Saturday

Turning point for me was Baxendale sub.
Hemmings was losing Goldbourne consistently and I thought they were about to turn the screw and credit goes to Deano for spotting that.

I couldn't get to the match but was keeping in touch through Sky's Gillette Soccer Special. Who was that reporter at the game, someone called Bianca! I have never heard such biased reporting in all my life. "Wolves should not be losing this match!" Grim faced "Walsall are throwing their bodies at everything". Pulling a face "It looks like Wolves are going to lose!" There was little or no mention of Walsall at all. There were two Midland Clubs playing in that match. I should write a letter of complain to Sky!

Sky's 'equal opportunities' policy is to sit a pretty young girl with next to no experience alongside the proper (male) journalist in the studio. It's about as pro-feminism as Blurred Lines. Occasionally you get someone who knows their onions, e.g. Alex Hammond, but basically they are picked on looks not talent (or sometimes according to who their dad is).
Very occasionally they don't even let the female presenter to operate from within the pally male studio and they are dispatched to a Football League outpost to stumble over a rough approximation of the match in progress. Basically it's like having all the incompetence of Kammy without any of the self-referential humour (by which I mean yelling 'UNBELIEVEABLE JEFF' every 4 seconds).
Is it any wonder Andy Gray and Richard Keys were allowed to get away with their Murdoch-sponsored misogynism for so long?

Right from the first whistle, They were focused, battling and they did half the job just keeping the Wolves crowd quiet, not a donald peep all game.
Every single player tonight, the goalkeeper got a standing ovation for one save, his best performance by a mile but was largely untroubled as we looked solid as a rock.
We hit the post twice, Sawyers could have scored clean through and how Ikeme was not sent off i dont know, the ref bottled it but by and large he had a good game.
Even Lalkovic played well when he came on, all the subs were spot on.
Superb, superb, superb. Get your Arsenal down the Bescot, your missing out on something special evolving here.

I know I'm a bit late in here, (bloody internet not working at home), but what a night. I still can't talk properly having sung and shouted myself to a standstill. To a man they were superb, out played the dog heads in every way. Glad I'm not the only one who saw O'Donnell's second save right at the stroke of half time, that was an absolute worldy, how he got to that I don't know, probably the best save I ever seen a Walsall keeper make. I thought Taylor was our MOTM he just didn't put a foot wrong and was the best player on the pitch by a county mile in the first half although Butler, (now a nailed on Saddlers legend), will probably take most of the plaudits for potting and some immense defending in the second half. On that showing we've got nothing to fear from anyone in that league, UTS!!! :D :D :D
