Here is the week 6 table. The fancied teams didn't produce again so lots of low scores (0s and 1s). The winner this week was Flemish Saddler with 5 points - well done mate!! Exile still tops the table although more people are creeping up to put pressure on.
Week 7 (tomorrow night!) is now open so get predicting quick!

Quick turnaround tonight! Here is the week 7 table after tonight's games. Pretty average scoring to be honest, mostly 1s and 2s (and only one blob!) but the week's winners, with 3 points, were Donnington Saddler, stig231 and Old Penk Saddler. Well done to you all.

I don't know which pleases me more - the regular table updates or the FACT that the annual jousting with Manchester has effectively come to an end as a meaningful contest after only 7 games.

Does that make untouchable then, given that manc's 3 points behind yet I'm 4 ahead of you? :D

Saigon's strategy for finishing ahead of Exile:
1. Get ahead or remain within striking distance
2a Wait for inevitable 'damn, forgot to post because of last night's BBQ/meeting/concert/football' posts
2b Arrange for postponed * games to become 'lost' on a hard drive by a neutral organiser
3. Finish ahead of Exile
4. Point out 100% success rate
Saigon's strategy for finishing ahead of Manchester:
1. Predict competently/incompetently - it doesn't really matter
2. Soak up early psychological buffeting
3. Continue with 1.
4. Finish ahead of Manchester
5. Tea and scones at the local hostelry
I might remind onlookers that part of last season's monumental success stems from the FACT that the eventual winner (SaigonSaddler) was 12 or more points behind the leader around November and yet came back to win with the highest ever points total that the world of predicting has ever, and will ever, bear witness to. Manchester is just Manchester and is unable to perform such a feat. When he's gone, he's gone. And he's gone. :D

Here is the table after yesterday's games. Some consistent scoring across the board but the week's winner was Tinned with 5 points, well done mate! Also some good 4 pointers for Kiansmom and derbysaddler near the foot of the table sees them creep up on a few, pointswise, even if their table position hasn't changed dramatically. Only one zero, which went to the normally very reliable WhittiSteve! Exile's still top of the tree but lots of congestion behind could see a lot of changes in the top 10 spots over the next couple of weeks.
The week 9 prediction thread will be up in the next day or two.

I was hoping for a surge up the table but, in true Bonser style, somebody else wafted a twenty pound note under my nose for my predicting skills and so I'm off to pastures new

Morning all. Here is the table for week 9 after yesterday's games. With Tranny and Stevenage not winning at home, the scores were pretty low. Only 3 people scored more than two points, so well done to Rob Harvey, Jockey and Flemish Saddler for winning this week with 3 points. That's a second winning week for Jockey and Flemish so far this season. Only one zero, the unfortunate recipient being FBIG.
Still bunching up at the top being Exile, and one good points haul would shoot you up the table. Tues games thread is now up and running - who will be brave and take a risk on some predictions to try and gain some points on people?!!

Re: Prediction League 1 2012-13: A New Season!!
Quick off the mark, here is the table after tonight's games! With a lot of people going for the comfortable predictions of supposed home bankers, and once again, an unexpected set of scores, we have lots of zero scores tonight (17 out of 32 predictions in fact!) and only 3 people scoring more than 1 point. We need a drum roll here because the winning predictor tonight was Donnington Saddler with the 'golden ticket' score of 6 - full marks! Well done mate! After that Aldridge Saddler had 3 points.
Other things of note from tonight's games: After 9 weeks of scoring 2 points each time, Tyldesley didn't score 2 points! Also, Manchester outscored Saigon for the second week running and is now creeping up ominously behind him. Cue lots of hard to understand bantering posts between the two on here now!
With Bury v Carlisle postponed, 3 people have a postponed game to call upon at some point.
Week 11 for this coming Saturday is up and running now.

Hot off the press, after this afternoon's games, here is the prediction league table after week 11.
Strange few days for some. Donnington scored max points on Tuesday but had a zero today, whereas Whitti Steve went from a zero on Tues to winning today with 5 points, well done mate! That has helped catapult him up the table, as well as livingthedream, who scored 4 points. Only 3 blobs today.
Exile is still keeping up a healthy lead over the chasing pack, which is getting ever bigger!

What's your strategy for avoiding a misreable form slump and subsequent slide to mid table mediocrity?

An excellent question!
As I'm only 2 points behind 2nd place after 12 it's not a bad start in my terms!
My strategy is to persist. It's far too early for the game-changing annual declaration of total war on the prediction league so I shall review at the end of October and may mobilise in November. To be honest, I'm very busy with the Asian victory tour after last year's epic triumph - being 12 points adrift to come back and record the highest ever winning score means that I have to visit adoring fans: usually women, usually naked. :D
Despite my appetite for victory being somewhat sated, this season threatens to be quite entertaining - even the hapless Manchester appears to have unearthed some fighting spirit! Commendations on an impressive start, but you are unlikely to maintain such a lead for long due to the enormous psychological strain it imposes on the encumbant:

Unlike the enormous psychological strain imposed on the defender of the title? Nice try. Thrash away and wail in your pit of despair. Make scantily-clad Asian mop your fevered brow and attempt physical restoration of your troubled soul. It is meaningless - meaningless! - in the face of the absolute and incontrovetible truth: you are not in the lead, and have to play catch-up.
Best of luck to you old chap, I do like a challenge. Sadly, this year so far it's coming from HK, Kevin, Whitti, 1933, Aldridge, KC, ken, Tyldesley and Welsh. I'm sure there are some fizzers in the next tier down along with the also-rans, but I'll start thinking about them when they're within five points.
