Izale McLeod signing for a 'mystery club' this week, from his comments I can't see it being us - http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7883231/

A few County fans on another forum I frequent are pretty sure of it. Compensation wise, I'm not really sure what the going rate is. Surely we would be entitled to something, though.

"I'm an experienced player now that wants to win things and help a club achieve what they set out to do.
Would he want to help a club who's only ambition is to avoid relegation?

A few people have tweeted Joe Lamplough (hull) over the last couple of days wishing him good luck with his trial at the saddlers.

Think I can see Ben Purkiss in the pics of pre season.......
Cant see us signing Mcleod but if we do its a bloody coup!! If we have given up on Ledesma and offered his deal to IM then it is probably seriously competative. I see football ruhmours is still linking us to Darren Carter and Rohan Ricketts, I'd take both if possible.

You'd take him? Really? Very poor player.

Why would it be a "bloody coup"? His last club was Barnet ffs! Mind you, we probably can't compete with them now either in wages.

Presumably because he's a proven goal-scorer, something which we've badly lacked for many years, and they usually cost. There are apparently several clubs chasing him too.

Well, he was MK Dons' top scorer for 2 seasons in League One - that was 6 years ago. The rest of his decent spells have occured in League Two. He's not bad, but 'coup' is pushing it.

He is also the best "diver" i've seen since Jacques Coustau.
We might even get a penalty now and again
Seriously though, he has baggage I believe, and I would prefer to see the (small amount of) money spent a little bit more effectively.

Whilst coup may well be pushing it, he'll sure as hell be a lot better than the shite that we end up with...

He'd be a good signing for us, He scores goals ("Paul Scholes"), proper finisher.

Maybe, maybe not, but because he's a "name" he'll be a more expensive gamble than others. I'm not saying we shouldn't, but you've to tread carefully with players like him.

He's not just "a name", though, is he? He tore it up in League Two last season, proving that he still knows where the goal is. He could, of course, fail to deliver in L1 (as could every other striker we sign) but he's worth a shot.

After a bit of research, I have found this from the Daily Mail from when Chelsea signed Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City in 2009.
Sturridge was out of contract but not available on a Bosman free because he is under 24. City were thought to be seeking a ‘development fee’ of £10million while Chelsea are understood to have offered £3m.

I agree. Unless of course his ambition for the coming season is mid table safety by the end of March!

We'll have to agree to disagree there. 4 League One & Championship clubs gave him a chance on the strength of his name between 2007 and 2010, and he scored 5 goals in 40 appearances between them. The recent stats say League Two is his level.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
Coup was used in light of the fact that as a free transfer I think he scored more goals than any other free agent avaliable and he is being pusued by other clubs....reportadly Sheff utd, Huddersfield and Portsmouth so to beat all three of those to his signiture would be an achivment.
His goals ratio from earlier in his career may not be great but then lots of strikers drop through the leagues only to rise back up later in their career. Most recently Grant Holt. But further back we released both Karl Hawley and Clive Platt and both went on to play in the championship for some seasons. Just because he started high and fell, does not make him a poor player.

Easy way to tell if we will sign McLeod: is he any good? If so, we wont.
From the look of the names we're being linked with, it's all League 2 standard
