Of course, but I doubt those types of players will be signed, even if Smith ain't got a clue.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
I wish I shared your confidence DV but past history and the fact we have still not signed anyone before end of June indicates we are waiting for players who are not wanted by anyone else and will be cheap. There is no guarantee that we will get players who are better than the Taundrys and Lancashires of this world. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not hopeful.

There's never a guarantee - even if you start offering contracts in May. We might not end up with players any better than Taundry, Lancashire, Nicholls and co, but as things stand, I'm happy that we're taking that chance. I'll say it again - two relegation battles in two years. Change is needed.

Yep. This.
Not confident on who we'll bring in because of who's at the helm, but we'll see....

I take the point about the clearout of dross and the apparent panic at lack of signings.
However, at what point is panic at lack of signings allowed to become real?
And when does pre-season training start anyway?

When we've signed enough players to make it worth while

I'm glad someone's finally taken the time to spell out other clubs' business so far. Proof, if any was needed, that we're not as far behind as the scaremongers are making out.

We ain't no, a double signing say tomorrow and we'll be back in the mixer.
Bury have just confirmed the signing of Brett Ormerod, decent capture that if he stays injury free.

Have the other teams lost 18 players?

Bar Orient, who else finished below us and needed a mass clear-out of GASH?

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
People are still missing the point. Not many are complaining about the exodus of players or the supposed slowness of replacing them. It's the worrying sign of players being able to get better offers down the football pyramid (and others turning us down with no other offers on the table) that should set the alarm bells ringing. Seems some people refuse to face reality until it's nose to nose with them.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
Depends on how you look at it. For example, 2 clubs who have not signed a player as yet (Coventry & Portsmouth) so far have had their hands tied in signing players anyway. Then you have Sheff Utd and MK Dons, both who already have fairly strong squads in place. So on that out look we do look to be behind others.
Clear out wise, I know Notts County, Preston and Doncaster have made large numbers of players on.

Exactly. Bury have only signed one player (a goalie who they had on loan last season) and they were only marginally better than us last season.
We'll see more movement this week, as we always do - because players contracts have now officially expired. Technically, none of them were free agents until now.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
How would we feel if tomorrow we unveiled:
Jimmy Walker
Manny SMith
Jordan Cook
Izale Mcleod
The manager obviusly has to balance his expenditure.
He might choose to spend more of 3 or 4 better players and have to fill the rest with untried freebies.
Let's hope!

How about Shefki Kuqi, i notice Oldham have released him. Might be 35 but he could do a job for the season and give us that target man we need. Not sure about his wages but rather we spent it on 1 quality forward than 2 average.

I'd actually take him, big lad, still got some left in the tank, could be surprisingly good.
Would want a fair bit though I'm guessing, a Macken style wage.

Well on the bright side they can all get in Deano's car to get to the training ground.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
Few more signings from in and around our level:
Wycombe have had their transfer embargo lifted and signed Matthew Spring, Sam Wood and Gary Doherty. Spring and Wood could have done a job I think, but I expect location more than anything is why they've gone to Wycombe.
Chesterfield have signed Sam Togwell. Very steady player at our level.
Exeter have signed Kevin Amankwaah and Pat Baldwin. Amankwaah has always been half decent when I've seen him, doubt whoever we sign to play right back will have his experience or know how at our level.
Southend have signed Anthony Straker and Gavin Tomlin. Straker was highly rated for an Aldershot side that did well last season, although there will be a fee involved for him which rules us out. Tomlin isn't a massive goal getter, and I'd have probably only liked him as an option from the bench for us, but I've seen him play a few times and he's got a good touch and brings others into play well. Think he scored against us on his Yeovil debut on the opening day 3 or 4 years back.
Don't really know what the point of all this has been, suppose it's just to point out that the players are out there, and most are getting snapped up.
