Re: John Terry
And you seriously think Capello would let Beckham sit on the bench if he was against it? Come off it...
For what its worth, I'd have taken him just for his presence as I genuinely believe he has the respect of the players. God knows, we were crying out for his passion against Algeria and even the USA, he'd have got on in both of those matches in my view.
He is a marketing brand, so what, he is also a good footballer, who has made many a vital contribution who probably would have been at the World Cup were he not injured. His experience and know how cannot be anything other than useful and Capello obviously has great respect for him having seen his attitude at Real and then with England.

Exactly. No need for any conspiracy theories on this one phil, its quite obvious why he's there. Pity he hasn't been on the pitch the last two games, we may have seen one cross find an England shirt.

Spot on, both of you. There has to be something in it for both parties. It's a draw-draw situation! :D

He wor bad... Was weird not to see him done in the air.
Special mention to Johnson too... A bit off the pace but not half as bad as his Liverpool season would have him as.

Agreed still trying to work out what he was booked for , although the ref gave him a stern talking too in the first half

I think it was a dive... Ay sure how the ref saw it because it was hard enough in slomo but he did start going down before he impacted into the Slovenian.

Re: John Terry
With Johnson I think the ref was thinking back to the first half when he gave him a warning for two tackles. He then seemed to thunk Johnson had gone down too easily so booked him for what he considered a 3rd infringement.
Thought Terry was much better on the whole, but so was the whole team.
Think Capello has come out and put a lid on the potential revolt to stop it escalating in to the same rubbish that affected France.
All in all I just hope we carry on that performance into the next game.
We kept the ball a lot better although in the 2nd half the hoof ball appeared again from time to time.

Sometimes the ball needs a hoof. As you say the main improvement was we could actually pass the ball.

John Terry - what a bottler!

Draw, draw win lose, as it turned out.
Backing up a week I'd just like to give John Terry my award for showing the least bottle in the tournament.
He basically destabilised the entire England camp with his selfish 'blame the manager' rant and after his team-mates all (wisely) turned their backs on his comments, he deserves an award for being up himself. Sadly, for his services to English football, England's manager and England's fans, he deserves shooting. Selfish idiot. What an embarrassment. He thought he had some support after some off-the-cuff discussions, but when he opened his big gob the players all ducked for cover, which shows exactly how little support he had - some ex-Captain, eh? Even Beckham fares better than he did! Goodbye, Mr. Excuse, hope you never play for England again.
It was funny to see his name, alongside those of Lampard, Rooney and someone else I already forgot, in the Grauniad's 'worst 10 players' list for the World Cup. He was. Good to see NZ represented 4 times in the top 10 best performances (Nelsenx2, Paston x2).

On the pure performance of games at this WC alone he has been one of the better keepers on display. Apart from the first half of the first game where he was awful

But he is 170k a week of central defender, isn't he? Surely that buys world class?
Unless he's the most overrated centre half since Carlton Palmer... And I feel like I'm being harsh on Carlton there.
Terry, since becoming a captain, and thus so far up his own arse his elbows are mating with his cornchute, has presided over the worst World Cup in my life and a DNQ for the Euros.

And that shows what guff stats can be sometimes.
Heskey vs. Germany rated in the worst players? He wor great when he came on but you can possibly compare that to say, Govou's performance against Mexico?!
Or Terry's against Germany, when he was so bad, I was starting to think it was deliberate
But he is 170k a week of central defender, isn't he? Surely that buys world class?
Unless he's the most overrated centre half since Carlton Palmer... And I feel like I'm being harsh on Carlton there.
Terry, since becoming a captain, and thus so far up his own backside his elbows are mating with his cornchute, has presided over the worst World Cup in my life and a DNQ for the Euros.
No, Jamie Carragher is!
England performances have declined since Terry was stripped of the captaincy. Make of that what you will but it really is true.
