Final score - 1-0. Good result (as any win away from home is).
Second half, a little less comfortable. Look forward to hearing the reports from those who attended.

The win puts us 8th, on goal difference/scored.

"mr Walsall" a.k.a Mick Kearns says it was a team performance. Parkin hit the bar with a header again. At the back we was solid.
Overall a good result. Things look bright for Walsall but im not getting my hopes up.

We played (close to) the South Coast in '98 and we were facing a former Walsall winger making his debut for his new side.
I'm just a genius, really.
Great result - never a nice ground to go to, and great to get off with a win and hear that the new lads performed well.
8th in the league? Not scoring seven away from home? Outrageous...Bonser Out, and take Hutchings with you! :D

Great start. Fantastic first half and some determined stuff second by the sound of it.
I recall a sunny day in the south and a 1-0 win opening day win courtesy of an own goal around 10 years ago. That launched a fantastic season that saw us promoted. It couldn't happen again could it?
EDIT - Beat me to it Jorge! You of course did it before the event which is very special - a little spooky even!!

The view from the pink...
http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/08/08/brighton-1-walsall-0-verdict/
Pleased that we looked to pass it in the first half, and very concerned that we reverted to type in the second half with a weak midfield and what would seem to be 'hoof-ball' to an extent. How many times in the run-in last year did we outplay a side in the first half and then be abject in the second? Hopefully we can eradicate anything early on this season. Leeds, as ever, showed today the need to play for the full 90 minutes - there is alot of quality in this division and we cannot afford half-performances. Delighted with the win, and the impact of Parkin and Till's involvement in the goal.

Perhaps unused substitutes cost a bit more money, or maybe it was just to save two bus fares down to Brighton. :)
Apparently, we travelled down on Friday afternoon and stayed overnight in a hotel, so I guess that your suggestion of an economy measure was very near the truth, Bernie. :D
Actually, I think that it was a very reasonable economy measure, given seaside hotel costs at this time of the year.

No need for seven subs anyway. Two of them (at least) are always likely to be people who you're only taking for experience and have no intention of using in a close game. Might as well just not bother with them for away games really as the extra expense (however small) and hassle of having two people around the team who know they're basically only there for a jolly isn't worth it.
Tranmere only named six at Yeovil too, so it's not like we're unique.

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (A) League 1 Saturday 8/8/09.
So, here we go again. My motorised zimmer frame was aimed in the direction of Brighton today. Not that I didn't have difficulty. It was only yesterday that I realised the game was all ticket. And I must admit getting a ticket was not easy. I was unsuccessful in gaining access to the away end but it was probably a blessing in disguise because binoculars would have been needed to see the pitch. As it was I was able to convince the bloke in the Brigton football shop that because I drive a zimmer frame I was unlikely to cause trouble if seated with the home fans. And so it was. In actual fact, I always enjoy it with the away fans because if we come out on top there is every oportunity for shardenfreuder (spelling - please correct if need be Pedagogue)
As for the game, we dominated in the first half. Hutchings had obviously told the lads to keep the ball, keep possession and keep it tight at the back. It worked. Brighton were dire, hardly entered our penalty area and just huffed and puffed in their own half. We scored - or at least they did: for us. So what, they all count and we deserved it.
The second half was different. We watched the clock throughout, wasted time and they had all the possession. I always think this is a dangerous game to play but it worked. Mark Wright was their best player and ran at our defence. It worried me and then I just pinched myself suitably reassured that this was Mark Wright. Nuf said, they didn't score. Mark Wright was their man of the match. My shardenfreuder turned to pity.

With this sort of talent you must remain in education for a phud. By the way, my zimmer frame will be travelling to Durham for a 5 day holiday in search of the Venerable Bede. Any good resturants/ pubs in the area? Is that Japanese place still there?

I'd said exactly the same thing today! Add to the mix the previous season had ended with a mass of anti Bonser feeling (protest outside stadium after Wycombe game). we'd gone into pre season with few players and we have a striker up front who had scored not a lot of goals in the preceeding seasons!
Anyway, good result today-sounds like we've played well enough

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (A) League 1 Saturday 8/8/09.
Just got back
First half we played really well
Till was a constant threat and parkin was making himself hard to deal with
Second half we were battered .... They played well and we couldn't keep possesion
Wright and dickinson were playing superb
Couldn't believe when slade took dickinson off
Overall im really happy .... i don't think we deserved the win but to get anywhere in the division you need to pick up points when you don't deserve them
A well fought performance.
It was also nice to see a sence of togetherness from the players when the whistle went and hutchings really apreciating our support at the end (even though we were pretty quiet).
