In HEL at the moment, on my way to Brighton via LHR. No idea what the score will be, but it seems I won't be able to see very much from the away end - still, the atmosphere will make up for that?

On the eve of the new season, I would like to wish all Saddlers a good trip tomorrow (and hopefully good weather!), and a good season generally.
I hope the paying customers, the people that really matter, have plenty to enjoy and to savour during the new campaign.

In light of my generally optimistic outlook for this season and belief that it is going to have shades of 98/99, I'm going to go for a hard-fought and well-earned 1-0 win, perhaps courtesy of an own goal.
My justification for this?
We played (close to) the South Coast in '98 and we were facing a former Walsall winger making his debut for his new side.

Very strange - why didn't we name two youngsters (Grigg, Adkins etc) on the bench for the experience ????

That was the first thing I noticed - seems a bit odd.

Perhaps unused substitutes cost a bit more money, or maybe it was just to save two bus fares down to Brighton. :)

Yes, he was. Went from Coventry to Brighton instead of us.
Meanwhile, at Carrow Road it's now 0-5.

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (A) League 1 Saturday 8/8/09.
Mick Kearns says we were a 'dominant force' in the first half and thoroughly deserved to take the lead.
Till, Deeney and Parkin were singled out as really looking threatening going forward, in particular the way Till & weston linked up in the move which led to the goal.
