1-1 Deeney
Hutchings to publicly apologise in the match programme for dropping Palmer on Saturday and promise NEVER to do it again
The old fella who was ejected on Saturday to sneak in and streak across the pitch during a boring second half in which there are more outside in the smoking hut than inside watching the game
2984 to witness the proceedings.

Surprisingly I will be attending for the craik, possibly a view of Bonsers mullet from my cramped seat and will report accordingly on the outcome of the match if I can be bothered.
Geordie saddler to break his post war record for the number of consecutive posts on a match thread in which he agrees with himself. Cyclo to fall into a coma reading them only to be woken by one from Metfanwy explaining the view from his bedroom window in Bangor from the interventional neurology perspective.

Walsall 2 - 1 Brighton
At half time specially hired riot police squads to wade into the Text for Impotence Pills stand to beat down any OAP trouble makers whilst Whalley stands by in his new overlord uniform. JB to be lurking behind him in a Emperor Palpatine style muttering 'good....good my middle aged apprentice'

Much, much better. Deeney to make it 2-0 after Bradley made it 1-0. Alex Nicholls having a "man of the match performance", apparently.

How strange this game is. Saturday we were awful and 3 down at half time. Tonight we're clearly better and 3 up at half time! Ah, the rollercoaster ride of being a saddler!!
Keep going boys, we want 5!

Can't argue with that. Solid win - but no more than I'd expect against one of the strugglers in the division irrespective of either sides results at the weekend. A shame we eased off in the second half, but no more than you'd expect after 4 games in 10 days.

Only human and natural to just take your foot off the gas when the game is already won. Cruise to the end.
Happy tonight but i was confident of a bounce back because i think hutchings will turn out to be a very good manager.

I don't think it's that bad considering our overall attendances this season, on the back of a home drubbing on Saturday and our third home game in a week.
Not great, admittedly, but not as bad as it could have been.
379 of them were away fans, by the way.

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (H) League 1 Tuesday 17/3/09
Another league "double" completed against a mediocre Brighton side - Yeovil must have been bad to lose 0-5 to them! However, let's not belittle our lads' performance - worthy winners.
Ince - o.k. but not overly convincing, particularly in the opening minutes
Weston - generally quite good but passing needs improving. Caught out with that ball over his head 2 or 3 times (remember Southend?) in the second half. Switched to centre-back & captain when Gerrard limped off.
Gerrard (Capt.) - back to something like his usual self until his injury. Hope he recovers for Saturday.
Smith - this young man gets better and better and must have run Nicholls close for MotM.
Boertien - back to the the Boertien of old - very sound performance
Nicholls - MotM and laid on the goals. I would still like to see him play down the middle, though.
Bradley - good on the ball and battled well. However, I wish he would make more late runs into the penalty-area and score goals, like he did, once, tonight.
Mattis - took over Hughes' rôle and did it better. Much more involved, tonight.
Zaaboub - promised a lot but didn't always deliver
Ibehre - worked his socks off, as usual, but his finishing was truly awful!
Deeney - Scored his usual goal - what a transformation since Jimmy Muddle was sacked.
Palmer - on at right back when Gerrard went off. Did little wrong.
Shroot - on for Zaaboub for last quarter of an hour
Taundry - on for Ibehre in closing minutes.
Sansara & Gilmartin not used
Very young referee who had a good game, apart from his failure to caution Ibehre (bad foul) and Zaaboub (simulation - a dive, almost as bad as that of Morten Gamst Pedersen for Blackburn, last Saturday)
On Saturday, we will be without Ricketts (suspended), Bradley (International duty), Roberts (permanently AWOL) and possibly Gerrard and Hughes (both injured). This will test the squad to its limit against an improving Orient side.

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (H) League 1 Tuesday 17/3/09
Thought we played really well and it was a good game to watch, deeneys finish was superb and gerrerd and braderz couldnt reli miss
i like the look at shroot his movement and short passing is brilliant but i just wish he was more selfish and had a few more shots
nicholls was brilliant but i felt sorry for manny because i thought he should have finally got a man of the match but when someone looks so good going forward and gets 2 assists like nicholls did, nicholls will get it everytime, but to me i wanted manny to get man of the match, he won practically everything in the air and made some brilliant tackles
mattis and bradley both played well and got stuck in
zaboob looked good but did over do on the diving for me
And jabo! he is a brilliant player at holding and fighting for the ball but he just cant finish!, if only there was a player with ricketts and jabo's attribute mixed :)
good overall performance!

Manny Smith will be around for the next 10 seasons.
Why ? because Scott Dann he ain't but the new Ian Roper he is.
Tackles, heads it and just like Ropes boots it.
Naff on the ball but as an old fashioned centre half does what it says on the tin.

Thats exactly what i like about him, he doesnt do anything spectacular but just gets it out and give the team chance to re-shape, that another reason why we won today, we kept our shape brilliantly throughout the whole game

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (H) League 1 Tuesday 17/3/09
Nicholls MOTM for me - having a hand in the first two goals and running their defence ragged in the first half meant it couldn't really go to anyone else; but Manny Smith again did really well. On one occasion in the second half he'd really been landed in it due to a through ball being missed by a team-mate and he was faced by two Brighton attackers. He stood his ground wonderfully and didn't commit; a great display of calmness and maturity. He's still pretty basic in a lot of what he does but he's growing in confidence each game. I was never a fan in his early days (as though he's a seasoned veteran now!) but I hope he continues to prove me wrong.
Normal service has been resumed.
p.s. Ince very lucky to get away with handling the ball at least a yard outside his area in the second half.

Think he'd sussed the ref wasn't watching that closely. Fair play to the ref - he had a good match. Didn't miss a lot, and played some advantage when he could - which led to our first goal. Plus he was a homer - only booked their players.

Re: Brighton and Hove Albion (H) League 1 Tuesday 17/3/09
Funny old game. On Saturday every player was awful, tonight every player was excellent. Suppose we might see more of the same now there's nothing to play for (when was the last time we had nothing to play for, this early in a season?) Nicholls was terrific and it was Bradley's best performance for well over a year. Boertien had probably his worst performance for us on Saturday, and perhaps his best tonight. Though it has to be said, Brighton were utterly dire.
Excellent ref. He looked a bit like a girl and sounded very much like a girl, but did well.
