QF3 - England v Portugal, Saturday 4.0pm BST
Just setting up the topic.
My pick - a dour European game, both sides keen to give nothing away. England on penalties after a 1-1 extra-time bore-draw.

The ref from the Switzerland vs South Korea game:

He's already given 18 yellows and a red out during this world cup.

Only a few hours till kick-off. Think we've reached the limit as far as the odds go - top eight is what the book says, and we're in it. Despite Portuguese injuries and suspensions, I think we'll have to improve by a fair bit to win this one.
Here's hoping the players can do it. Heart says 2-0 England, head says 1-1 draw and we're out on penalties, Beckham missing his again. What can he blame it on this time? Probably as he's not on the pitch after being sent off for backchatting the ref.

To be honest, the last eight is crammed full of quality and if we do go down to Portugal it shouldn't be viewed as a failure. It'll be average and Sven will have done his job I suppose. The last four is a bonus and anything beyond this is exceptional. Portugal are a good team and they'd have a chance against any of the remaining teams.
If it was a school report.........
last 8 : Can do better C+
last 4: Good effort B :)
Finalists : Excellent A 8)
Winners : Very well done, good boy! A+ :D

the mark of a truly great team tho is to grind out results.
We know the potential of these guys and how great they are at club level, i don't give a monkeys if we scrape through 1-0 again i just want a proffesional and whole hearted display.
Who cares if we've been rubbish? were in the last 8, in the world cup you're only as good as your next match, and as long as the result is the right one i dont care if its great to watch

It would have helped if he hadn't been on his own all the while.Leamore Saddler wrote:Agreed - but it would have helped if the (Argie) referee had blown for the several fouls on Rooney before the latter exacted his own revenge.

Too true - very little service or support
Matches are won physically and mentally. For all of our matches so far the players have had looks of fear and lack of self belief about them. FA needs to address this - get that winners attitude
