6th December 1986. Walsall 5 Port Vale 0 FA Cup Round 2. Naughton, Cross, Shakespeare (2 pens), Christie. Att. 7,033.
What a memory eh ? Nah, what a complete Walsall FC record book more like !
I was just looking at the attendances for that FA Cup run, 15,897 for the second replay at Fellows Park. If only eh ?
Sometimes wish we'd bloody lost 5 - 0 that day. Oh well, once you've caught it bad you've caught it for good.

Though I went to 2 Albion games before I ever went to a Walsall game
Eh, eh, I went two rounds before you. Mind you I'd been to a fair few W****s games before that (including one versus Walsall at Molinuex, where I was sitting in the John Ireland Stand  ).

Late 1950s, about 1957/58 I'd guess, I know I was about 7 - 8 years old.
Who we played, what the score was, God only knows. I spent most of my time running around the terraces while my Dad was telling me to stand still and watch the match.
Match ? What match ? I like running up and down these steps and climbing on these bars though Dad, they'm great!
Can I 'ave a drink Dad, and a bag of crisps?
Dad, that kid over there 'as got some crisps Dad !
Dad.
Dad !
D-A-A-A-D !!
OUCH, what was that for ?
I 'ate football anyway, can we go 'ome now Dad ?
Wonder why I can't remember the match ?

Sounds like a Merson pre-match team talk.

I went to that game, with my dad. Remember walking through the Street end for a quick get away, (For my dad's post match pint) And Nicky Cross played an absolute defence splitting pass through to Christie who slotted it home nicely. Memories eh

Walsall 4 Reading 1 1964 or 65 I think.
Without giving everyone my life history parents had divorced mom took in lodger (well she told me he was a lodger) a tax man from Reading.
I was hooked, then on the Tuesday want to see us play Hull City in a night match 3-3. There I was aged about 8 running back through Pleck and Wednesbury Road at night by myself to get the bus from town back to Aldridge.
Can't see any parents letting their kids do that nowdays.

Is your "2" key not working Geoff ? If that match was 57/58 then surely you were 27 - 28 not 7 -8 ?
Is that pint next home match in jeopardy now ?

No idea of first game at all, must have been early 80s though. If someone of slightly more advanced years could advise the era for me, Don Penn and Kenny Beech were my very early Saddler's heros
My lad's first game was Port Vale at the start of last season and his first away game was also Port Vale!
