Bury (H) EFL Trophy 2nd Dec, 12.30pm
While many of our League One rivals are flexing their muscles in the real (F.A.) Cup we welcome the Shakers for this EFL/Checkatrade/Johnstone's Michael Mouse 2nd round match, knowing that a win at this knock-out stage will mean another £20,000 for the club's coffers to add to the £45,000 already harvested. Financial rewards for progressing in this competition naturally increase the further you go, and with the eventual winner getting £100,000 it's not to be dismissed lightly. If you are planning to come to the game don't bother turning up at 3pm because it should be all done and dusted by then (12.30pm k/o).
Since scraping home 1-0 against us on the opening day of the season (and missing 2 penalties for good measure) Bury's fortunes have rather plummeted - having got those 3 points from that first game they only managed to achieve 1 point in total from the next 6 games, and another dismal run in October saw the sacking of manager Lee Clark with Bury firmly established in the League One relegation zone. So with the arrival of Chris Lucketti we have the "New Manager" syndrome to overcome, and with players of the calibre of Jermaine Beckford and Nicky Ajose available it certainly won't be as easy as the League One table might suggest. In the month since Clark's departure Bury's wild inconsistency has been exposed ..... drawing at Woking (while we lost at Newport County) but then losing the replay at Gigg Lane 0-3 was very strange, but no more strange than beating Shrewsbury Town a week later. For what it's worth, Bury's recent League One form:
24 Oct Oldham Athletic (A) Lost 2-1
28 Oct Doncaster Rovers (H) Lost 0-1
11 Nov Gillingham (A) Drew 1-1
18 Nov Blackburn Rovers (H) Lost 0-3
21 Nov Shrewsbury Town (H) Won 1-0
25 Nov Northampton Town (A) Drew 0-0
We come to this game having won our two most recent fixtures ... a comment on one of the Bury forums says that "Walsall are a team in form" - and that goes to show that the appearance of a result on paper isn't necessarily an accurate reflection of reality. However, Jon Whitney must have used those results to be convinced (if he needed to be convinced) that (a) a settled team not exposed to chopping and changing and (b) dedication more to a passing game rather than constant hoofball to miniature strikers up against giant defenders would probably be good ideas. His team selection for Saturday will probably see a need for a little tinkering though, as I presume Bury are unlikely to welcome Zeli Ismail's presence wearing red.
Prediction? Well, since Bury seem to be not too keen on scoring (19 goals in 20 League One games so far) I'm very tempted to go for a 2-0 home win, with Bakayoko and Lobster on target. We haven't been giving penalties away recently, but if we do against Bury it won't matter because it's a well-known fact that they don't "do" penalties..........

4-0 will the main stand rocking in arctic conditions
A crowd of 999 with Mr & Mrs Bonser dishing out free mince pies & hot mulled wine at half time.
Get down there and get behind the lads.
It beats Christmas shopping & only a tenner in.

This will happen when hell freezes over. So there IS a chance after all !
Don't think I would make the effort to be there even if I still lived in Palfrey! Gonads will be clanging on to the breezeblock all around the Bonk's's. It's times like this when being a pro footballer ain't quite such a fabulous career!
0-1 again I fear.

First name on the team sheet, Terry.

Thanks for the kind offer but no thanks.
They could pay me the tenner and I still would give it a swerve.

You are welcome to have wine but you will need ID to prove your age if you want a mince pie.

Don't really care about this but Bury are a proper bogey team so this would actually be good for morale to end the jink against them and make the league game later in the season easier.
Isn't it something ridiculous like 1 win in last 10 against them?

I care about us never playing games against U23 teams in league games.

Might as well go for this full-pelt, if only to make up a bit of the revenue lost from crashing out of the FA Cup.
Plus, I fluffing hate Bury. Dunno if I've ever mentioned that before?

Re: Bury (H) EFL Trophy 2nd Dec, 12.30pm
So, what team will he put out?
Ideal chance to try Roberts and Agyei up front as a twin striking partnership.......................Nah, not possible, who after all, would want to see a Walsall team scoring goals?
So it's Bakayoko up front again.
The hatred of Bury, is not irrational, as many know I have a similar hatred of Burnley, it breaks my heart to see them doing so well in the Premiershite, my 'irrational' hatred is so bad I would rather see the Dingles there instead!

My word this is soooo unusual, 0-1 down after 7minutes, there we were thinking we were on some sort of revival.
Some also suggested they were bottom of the League? Lets hope the League is actually upside down, then we would be in the top half!
If this wasn't such a tragedy it would be utterly comical.
