9 nil to whomsoever scoreth first.

Cue outlandish 'championship here we come' or 'we'm doomed' rhetoric ...

I seem to remember giving one our talented youth players a game towards the end of last season, on the left wing. he started well then made a couple of mistakes then completely disintegrated. the trouble with playing our young players, is the fact that when you make a mistake in front of your mom dad and gran in a youth team game, you can move on, do it in front of 4000 expectant fans and it is a different prospect. And can take weeks or even months to put right :|

At Solihull Hayes-Docherty and Kouyhar combined pretty well for the first goal. Candlin's scored a few in pre season but 16 is ridiculously young to pin your hopes on for league 1.

In an ideal world you loan them out to league 2 or Conference for 6 months so they can build up, Kieron Morris had a really good spell at Wrexham and came back full of confidence after all.

Young players will make mistakes. I seem to remember a certain Cristiano Ronaldo making a s*** tonne of them when he first played in a proper big boys team. Real Madrid are pretty happy they persevered with him though.

Obviously we are talking a much much smaller scale than that with Maz Kouyar, or any young player at our club. But if you have the attitude that they "disintegrate after one mistake" you will never bring anyone through.

They also need to be introduced properly. You can't just throw them out there into a second string line up and feed them to the wolves. I'm all for giving youth a chance but the last game of last season was an example in how not to do that.

Well AM cricket is a great game and I enjoy watching it.....if you haven't the nous to appreciate its appeal then that is your problem :D but at least at Old Trafford I will see people supporting their team instead of continually moaning :D If you go to Bury give the lads a cheer from me and I really hope you see us score!!

And who do you think would perform this task? Casper the ghost, 16 yo 'Candlin in the eye' perhaps? Chunkster and I will give 'em a cheer for ya...biggest cheer of the afternoon will probably be reserved for us getting out of our own half for a few seconds!

My hatred of cricket, goes back to school days, forced to play the game which would ALWAYS consist of one big headed batsman & one big headed bowler, the rest of us just stood about freezing our cobblers off to witness their self centred glory.

Can see a fairly regulation win for Bury. 2-0, with 560 Saddlers.

It's going to be a long season...

Bury 0 - 2 Walsall

Erhun and Baka. The latter to celebrate with one finger to the lip.

Under normal circumstances I would have expected a decent turnout for the opening day.
These however are not normal circumstances.
What would have been fairly close to 1000 is only likely to be 5-600.
We will be there but I fully understand why many others will not.

I'm there for the comradeship and a drink amongst friends, the game is somewhat irrelevant, the first defeat in what will turn out to be a long, hard season of turmoil. From what was gathered at the 'meeting' the Board are not on the same wavelength as Mr. Motivator at all, we will eventually see him go, probably to be replaced with a carbon copy of O Dysmal. (but only if he is cheap) players will come and go as we try to avoid the drop.
Other than that we will win 6-0, sign 6 fabulous new players (including two strikers) Bonser will sell up, chips will be available again, we will win the League and have regular gates of 10K .............Shropshire mode!

The 200,000 miles we've done should see us home.
The sight of Fryatt sitting watching and waiting will be enough to motivate the front one or two to blast at least 2 in.

I feel like we look every inch the Tranmere side of 2014/15.

We played them on the opening day and beat them 3-1. Should have been many more. Westcarr grabbed a brace and Milan scored on his debut.

Tranmere brought a good, noisy opening day following of around 650 and were ultimately relegated that season.

So I'm going for a 3-1 defeat with us taking a good, noisy following of around 650 and being ultimately relegated this season.

Speaking to a Bury fan, they've had a poor pre-season as well and they are a bit concerned. I'd suggest they haven't gelled yet which might actually give us an opportunity.

I'm going to say a score draw 1-1 or 2-2. If Bury click, then we could be in trouble and lose 4-0 :(

I think that depends on the circumstances. It had already been a poor season last year so to throw a couple of kids out there to get panned 4-1 was pretty harsh on them. They have to be ready to test themselves. Candlin needs a lot of development first before you can expect him to show what he's got for example but as soon as he is, and I think Kouyar is ready to be a squad player, then give him a chance by all means!

I'm all for giving the kids a chance but considering the after effect of that game and the result you can't say it was the right thing.

I'm going for 3-3.

Ajose, Lennie Johnrose and Neymar for them.
Makris hat trick for us.

Bury's defence to fall for the same old distraction - a picture of Liz McDonald from Corrie.
I wonder if they will be first team to score and concede 100 in the same season?

A 2-1 defeat, with Wilson scoring a header for us, in front of 4.017, including 606 Saddlers.

The biggest surprise is that you expect us to score twice!! It usually takes Baka and Jacko 790 minutes to score 2 - let's hope Ozzie's got his shooting boots on.
