Gillingham (A) Sun Dec 29th League One, 3pm
The Christmas programme continues with a trip to Gillingham, managed by Peter Taylor. He took over from Martin Allen who was sacked in October after a run of only 2 wins in their first 11 games - this after winning the League Two title last season. Their current form is best described as "patchy", as can be seen from the most recent six League One matches:
Nov 26 Stevenage (H) Won 3-2
Nov 30 Rotherham Utd (A) Lost 4-1
Dec 7 Notts County (A) Lost 3-1
Dec 14 Peterborough Utd (H) Drew 2-2
Dec 20 Tranmere Rovers (A) Won 1-2
Dec 26 Leyton Orient (H) Lost 1-2
Best not to read too much into the Boxing Day game - the Gills held the lead for 70 minutes and only went 1-2 down in time added on. Among their squad is Jake Hessenthaler (son of Andy Hessenthaler who was 10 years with the club as player and manager). A recent Twitter from Jake reads "Walsall can pass for fun. We want to do that as well so we need to start like we did today and hopefully we'll get three points". The "starting well" refers to the Leyton Orient game, where Gillingham took the lead on 4 minutes (Akinfenwa - watch out for him Andy Butler!!).
If we can pick ourselves off the floor after what was apparently a really bad day at the office at Ashton Gate, we do have the ability to win this one. Any aspirations towards a play-off place will fade if we don't win a few - we're already 5 points away (6 in reality, looking at goal difference), and I think a 0-1 result in our favour will be very welcome, Lalkovic to slot home on 42min. :D

Looking forward to this, want to see Butler slap Akinfenwa around, even though he does seem like a proper nice bloke in real life.

Akinfenwa to rip out some of his muscle and give it to Bax. He will then prove his three year contract and score a hat trick for us. However, Akinfenwa will score 59 goals including 16 1/2 bicycle kicks.
Final score Gillingham 60 (Akinfenwa 59, Lalkovic O.G 1)- Walsall 26 (Westcarr 20, Bax 3, Romaine 2, Dancing Kev 1).

Given the continuing travel chaos in the area, I'd say 0=0 with 170 saddlers.

Something - 0.
Probability of conceding a penalty : high.
Hewitt to come on in the 65th minute as Plan B rolls into action, touching the ball 3 times.
Butler thrust forward in the 85th minute for the Plan C shuffle.
Gray introduced in the 88th minute as a futile gesture.

I've got over the Bristol performance ( only just though ) and after looking at the table we are still in this. A win today won't be easy but its essential . We know we can do it just depends on which Walsall turns up !! Whatever the result would still like to see a couple of new faces brought in to lift the squad. Pacey winger and a goal hanger please. Think bax needs a rest and Hemmings in.
Score line ?? Saddlers to edge it 0-1 with a Shrews like performance
Up the Saddlers forever !!

Chambers A in for Featherston Nick, Hemmings in for Lalkovich, who 'has a sore hamstring'.

Guessing milan injured I thought deano was going for something new putting hemmings in I guess not.
MK loosing is working in our favour as the form they have been in I think they could be the outside contenders against us.
Think todays result will give us a good idea where our seasons going as need to show we can bounce back from disappointment and get results against teams lower in the table.

Bradford 1 Swindon Town 0 (15 min)
After 20 minutes, we have 68% of the possession according to the Beeb. 3 attempts on goal, 1 of which on target.

Gills commentary - 'Gillingham players having to do a lot of running without the ball'.

If only possession = goals, we'd be top of the league. :( Swansea have gone all the way with this sort of football, but they've always had an ace striker in the mix - Jason Scotland, Lee Trundle, Michu etc. But they're hard to come by, I know that. Why isn't someone monitoring France, Spain, Bulgaria etc for us? (Am I serious??) :?

If we don't score today, after utterly dominating then I'm afraid we might have the record daily singular post count broken by Sallian.

Re: Gillingham (A) Sun Dec 29th League One, 3pm
This is the most one-sided 0-0 match that I have seen. Gillingham are so poor that they can only get better in the second half.
Our football is mind-numbingly boring - sideways, sideways, sideways, always bloody sideways!
Will someone please get the ball into their penalty-area QUICKLY and will someone please SHOOT ON TARGET!

Where would we be if we had Tom Pope leading the line.(Right up there IMO)
