Bristol City (A) Thurs Dec 26th League One 3pm
Off to Bristol City on Boxing Day to try and maintain our winning run. Relegated from the Championship in the summer, many people were expecting City to bounce back or at least be strong contenders for promotion. Instead we see them at the foot of the table and four points below the drop line. Sean O'Driscoll was shown the door at the end of November, and on December 3rd Steve Cotterill was appointed on a three-and-a-half year contract. Cotterill had been without a position since leaving Nottingham Forest in July last year, and in 2 matches in charge so far he's seen 1 draw and 1 defeat.
Here are Bristol City's last six League One results:
Nov 16 Tranmere Rovers (A) drew 1-1
Nov 23 Sheffield United (H) lost 0-1
Nov 26 Leyton Orient (H) drew 2-2
Nov 30 Preston North End (A) lost 1-0
Dec 14 Rotherham United (H) lost 1-2
Dec 21 Notts County (A) drew 1-1
Perhaps just as relevant is a comparison between Bristol City's home form and our away performance (League One games only)
Bristol City (home)............. Played 11, Won 1, Drawn 5, Lost 5. Goal tally 12-17
Walsall (away).................. Played 11, Won 5, Drawn 4, Lost 2. Goal tally 12-6
This surely a game which should see 3 more points for the Super Saddlers, and it also has the additional motivating factor of Richard O'Kelly returning to one of his previous stamping grounds. I'll go for a 0-2 scoreline, with the goal machine Lalkovic and mighty Mantom on target.
Final thought.....other games on Boxing Day which could do us some good: Bradford v Rotherham, Brentford v Swindon, and Coventry v Posh !!!!!

Fancy going to this given it's a decent chance of some points.
Does anyone know if the trains are running from Birmingham to Bristol on boxing day?

National Express coaches are running, but the first coach of the day from Birmingham Coach Station isn't until 1pm, arriving Bristol Coach Station at 2.50pm. Plenty of choice for the return leg, and the fares appear to be around £15 each way.

Adam Chambers out suspended, but still think we'll win 3-1 with 560 Saddlers there

According to the BBC intelligence Westcarr is doubtful, with a knee injury. :(

According to the Excuse & Dingle, Westcarr will probably be fit to play.

Re: Bristol City (A) Thurs Dec 26th League One 3pm
A deceptively difficult one, this. Sure, they're bottom of the league with only 2 wins, but they were unlucky not to win at Notts County and will be combative for our visit. They have two decent front men in 10 goal Emmanuel-Thomas and 8 goal Baldock but their midfield is very average [even when considering no Adam Chambers for us] and their defence has leaked almost double the amount of goals we have.
Their confidence is brittle and I understand that new manager Stuart Cotterill has been persisting with the same players/formation as SOD, a fairly rigid 4-4-2. It is Louis Carey's club record 646th appearance tomorrow, beating 60's hero John Atyeo's record, and this may galvanise the home side/supporters more than usual. However, if we play our pass and move game we should find plenty of gaps in and around that defence, not to mention the donkey that is Ade Flint who had a torrid time against us when playing for Swindon at the County Ground last season. They paid £350,000 for him  .
All in all, I fancy a narrow win, 2-1, but we must play well if we are to get the three points.

Bristol City 0 - 3 Walsall
Butler, Lalkovic and Hewitt
attendance: 9,848 (551 Saddlers) - I have no idea what Ashton Gate usually pulls

Can't go today after all, so keeping an eye on events from the keyboard....and early kick-offs already affecting us:-
Coventry 0 Peterborough 1 (20 min)
Brentford 0 Swindon Town 1 (10 min) which opens the gap between us and the play-offs to 3 points (4 really, looking at goal difference)
More motivation (if any were needed) for us to get a result at Ashton Gate today!!
(Edit... Coventry 1 Peterborough 1 (equaliser on the stroke of half-time)
(Re-edit... Coventry 1 Peterborough 2 ------ 2 minutes into added time, end of first half)
(Re-re-edit... Brentford 1 Swindon 1 :D ) 26 min.
Coventry 0 Peterborough 1 (20 min)

The blot on the horizon is Carlisle 0 Preston 1 (50 min)

Full time is Brentford 3 Swindon Town 2. Excellent result for us, Brentford now top of the table, Swindon well within reach.

Here we go... Dingles 1 Crewe 0 after 2 minutes.
Leyton Orient have now equalised at Gillingham, 1-1 the score.
However, Peterborough and Swindon have definitely lost, which can only be good for us.

Elsewhere, Jabo Ibehre scores Colchester's 2nd to put them 2-0 up at home to Stevenage.

Bristol City have a penalty, 15 min, conceded by O'Donnell :( :(
He didn't save this one ---- we're 1-0 down........
(Edit...don't like this other scoreline.... Bradford 0 Rotherham 1 (which puts us 5 or 6 points away from the play-offs)
(re-edit... Leyton Orient have won at Gillingham after a 90th minute goal, score 1-2)

Purkiss booked for a foul, 43 min.
Half-time and we're 1-0 down. Their leading scorer (Emanuel-Thomas) has also been booked. Plenty of food for thought for Deano and the boys...

Not looking too good at half time. Lose this and heads will drop.

0-1....THE FIRST GOAL which means Walsall can't win now as can hardly ever score two goals and are psychologically defeated after conceding the FIRST GOAL due to their own wrong philosophy backed up by some supporters who encourage that philosophy.
This is why the play offs are NOT going to be reached....0-1 to the bottom club and very doubtful they will score two....even though there is a WHOLE HALF left.

This is also why the supporters who thought 'we have some easier games now to gain some points' are wrong.....BECAUSE when it is an enormous task to score a goal and an even greater task to score two or three....you struggle against EVERY TEAM!
