First defeat of the season coming I reckon. The next 3-4 weeks are going to be very tough so let's see how we go and keep backing the team. We desperately need a right winger with pace and then Baxendale/Sawyers in the hole. Drop Westcarr or use Lalkovic as an impact sub.

If you're a Saddlers World subscriber you can listen to commentary on the Football League app (iOS or Android).

You could equally link it to our close links to Hereford or Doncaster or, er, our excellent youth set up. But obviously that wouldn't make it sound quite so much like good players had simplyfallen into our lap from lofty Premier League neighbours. Is he really that poorly informed?

In today's 16 will be four produced by the Boggies (Lewis/Downing/Mantom/Sawyers) and maybe two by our good selves (George/Benning). He has a point. And he wasn't meaning it as a criticism (although in the light of the upcoming tribunal it is easy to see it that way), but praising us for our ability to replace our three star forwards with another three if similar age and ilk without much trouble at all.

I find Rosler quite an affable German man, in the style of Henning Wehn or Marco Reich.

Mantom started with us, then went to the Albion didn't he?

He did indeed

Love the logic of Kearnsey on saddlers player sometimes like then 'brentford were the more dangerous and likely to score goals team' 'The overall performance Walsall were better and deserved it'

Surely the most dangerous team deserves it as they make the chances. I'd like to see what people at the game are saying though as saddlers player made it sound like we did some great passing but just not enough shots other then 2 chances westcarr missed.

Disappointing to loose but Brentford are a tough team and I'd of been happy with a point at kick off as they will be there or there about with the top 6 this season I believe.

Difficult to comment not being there but the comments about Westacrr being a number 10 rather than a number 9 seem to be getting greater credence week by week.

And is that the last three goals we have conceded have been from unchallenged headers very deep and very central in our box?

So stuff to work on, but 7th and cup progress represents a very good start. Today began a run of very tricky fixtures. If we're still 7th in a months time and still in either the JPT or League Cup then that will be ace.

Report from the dark side makes it sound like we did okay but struggled to create.

Good game with both teams playing excellent football - excellent advert for league one.

We dominated the first half fully, with Walsall properly on the back foot. Forshaw hit the bar from 25 yards before Donaldson nodded in just before half time. Second half Walsall came out a lot stronger and started winning a higher percentage of second balls but I was most impressed with their keeper who not only kept them in it but also swept up very well. Two excellent saves from Donaldson and Forshaw (the second one was brilliant) and a clearance from a defender close to the line after El Alagui rounded the keeper kept them in it.

Walsall forced two saves from Button but didn't manage to create too many goalscoring opportunities despite playing further and further in our half. Very impressed with both sets of players but the ref and linesman had a nightmare. Two potential penalties the ref let slide and then made some very bizarre decisions for both teams. Good game all in all.

Pretty clear cut today.

Brentford are a team ready to wave goodbye to L1, remind me of a Graydon team
- Organised
- Physically Strong
- Rule the middle of the pitch from back to front.
- Big fellas upfront to do the business.
- There weren't any passengers in their XI

We know what we are - and so do our opponents. We are tidy, energetic and like to build up to things. Sadly for us today .... Brentford
- Closed us down
- Had a bit more bite and fight for the 50-50s in the first half
- Their attributes trumped ours.

On a positive note for us, I haven't seen every game this season - but in those I have we've finished the strong teams, when the game opens up more and fitness shows we are the top team, maybe we need to keep things a little tighter and throw the kitchen sink at teams in the last half hour or so.

Playerwise - we were kind of stuck with Lalkovic, Baxendale and Hemmings, because they weren't able to take any pressure of us by a) carrying the ball, they were closed down and stopped early on everytime, or b) holding the ball up - physically not up to the job.

That said - Westcarr probably has the attributes to do this but just wasn't up to the job - Sawyers in second half on the other hand helped us keep possession a bit more in their half.

Fair play to Brentford - good strong team.

Tried to listen to reports on WM via Internet, but for some reason it was unavailable, so listened to Radio London.
The match reporters were very complimentary about the Saddlers, commenting that they were "easily the best team Brentford have played this season"

Frustrating game for many reasons. Think team selection was wrong but easy to say after the event . Teams have sussed us out that if they work hard and close down we struggle. Just amazed they can keep it up for 90 mins. Ref made life hard for us too as he blew for everything which meant we seemed reluctant to put a foot in as game went on. Starting to worry now about where the goals will come from. Like westcarr but he is not clinical and the Chelsea kid has skill but drifts wide . Really need an out and out front man and hopefully deano is looking at this in the loan market sooner rather than later .
Hate going to the dirty parts of London especially coming back pointless . Oh and to the fool who owns an Audi tt - block my car in like that again in the most selfish of ways leaving me 1 mm to get out and you will find it with a nasty scratch you cockney Scunthorpe

Having watched the highlights on the football league show we can talk all we like about wondering where the goals will come from. However if we keep conceding cheap and easy goals like we are doing then we are going to create problems for ourselves! We seem to be content to keep allowing crosses coming into the box yet not dealing with them. Donaldson had a free header as he stood in between downing and Butler, that simply isn't acceptable.

Peter Crouch has scored something like 3 goals in 22 games, if he plays on Wednesday and we allow crosses easily into our box and give him all the space in the world he will soon be making up for that!

Think that's a bit tenuous. Both of the twins have been around the houses since leaving the Albion and ending up here.

This is my worry. Defenders were too far apart.

Just read the report on the E&S site, it says Butler played the final minutes as a centre forward, no buy a bloo*y centre forward like everybody else.

Agreed. The fact DS preferred to do that rather than bring on Troy Hewitt must say something, who he clearly feels is not ready. Perhaps we are waiting for the tribunal to be sorted out, and then we will get someone in on loan. I'd like to think that this person has already been earmarked because it is quite clear that we need an additional option up front, as otherwise much of our excellent approach play is going to go to waste.
