Championship relegation day....
I know this board is normally for Walsall matches, but in view of its potential importance to us I thought we could have a one-off look at Saturday's Championship matches - the ones that will decide who comes down to join us in August.
Some of our overseas members rely on these threads to keep them updated "in real time", and I will endeavour to post updates as soon as possible - don't forget that all Championship games tomorrow kick off at 12.45pm.
So, there are still a few teams that could be relegated, but only three really concern us - Wolves, Barnsley and Peterborough. Their current standings are:
Peterborough Goal diff -8 54 points
--------------------------------------------------
Barnsley Goal diff -14 54 points
Wolves Goal diff -12 51 points
Bristol City (relegated) 41 points
There are teams further up the table that could be dragged down, but Wolves can't catch them, so the three matches to watch are:
Brighton (in the play-offs already) v Wolves
Crystal Palace (5th) v Peterborough
Huddersfield (18th) v Barnsley
Brighton are assured of 4th place in the Championship no matter what happens tomorrow, and there have been suggestions that they will field a weakened team against Wolves in order to safeguard the fitness of certain players for their play-off fixtures. Essentially Wolves have to win at Brighton AND claw back the 4 goals inferiority on Peterborough. It's a lot to ask, especially as most of their players are reported as having accepted the inevitable relegation as nailed-on.

Re: Championship relegation day....
All games have started on schedule, Dingles have full-strength side playing - even Sako who was a major doubt. Gorkss (the central defender who wants £25,000 a week  ) is also on the field. Aaron McCarey is on the bench.
And after 5 minutes, it's Brighton 1 Dingles 0 (Lua Lua) :D :D :D :D
Elsewhere, Nottingham Florist are 1-0 up against Leicester and so move into the play-off zone for the time being......

Re: Championship relegation day....
According to the match statistics....the Dingles (in a match they HAVE to win, and win well) are having about a third of the play.
According to the "wolvesforum" Dean Saunders' team selection is open to severe criticism. He's dropped their best three players by most people's estimation, and is playing one up front.

Huddersfield now in relegation zone. That would be a bonus - cracking away day.

If Huddersfield do get their act together, that will send Barnsley down to you, which is probably just as good!!
As it stands, there are 4 teams all on 57 points (6 points clear of the Dingles) - goal diff may count by 3pm

Half-time - Brighton 2 Wolves 0
Also Palace have equalised against Posh, pushing Peterborough into relegation land.

Hull losing 0-1 at home to Cardiff, which pushes Watford (and Troy) into an automatic promotion place...
Huddersfield draw level with Barnsley, which pushes Barnsley below the relegation line instead of Peterborough

Would hull not going up be the biggest blown chance ever? They've only needed a point (or Watford to drop a point) for like 3 Weeks now.

Re: Championship relegation day....
Hull now 1-1, back in the top two. EDIT.....Hull now 2-1 ahead, certain promotion if it stays like that.
The Watford v Leeds game is about 15 minutes behind the rest because of a lengthy stoppage for injury.
Peterborough back in front 1-2 at Palace, pushing Barnsley's nose back in the mire.

Re: Championship relegation day....
After 65 minutes Wolves have had 2 shots on target.
If all the other teams manage to lose, Wolves only need 8 goals now for safety.
It ain't gonna happen - song to the Dingles...."come and join us, come and join us etc. etc."
