Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
What about Player X? He might be ex-premiership, but given that he's been suggested on here ten summers running, he must be of an age at which we can afford him? Plus he's absolute clarse, he'd score a bagful at this level.
Cue discussion as to whether he'd get the service.

Is "I'm available on a Bosman" newspeak for "I've been binned."

"Unplayer" is surely the correct term.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
Before Hodgson was appointed England boss I was told that Mantom 'may well become a permanent fixture here next season'. I'm not sure whether the situation has now changed with Hodgson going though.
I think League One is probably his level right now. If he signed and given plenty of opportunity I could see him as a decent Championship midfielder in two or three seasons.
Walsall would be a good move for him in my opinion.

I was told that and mentioned it on another thread about 3 weeks ago

It was 3/4 weeks ago when I was told that as well mate. From what I understand the West Brom director of football would make the call on him so the Hodgson situation could well be irrelevant. West Brom have had him well watched during his spell here.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
The rumours about Izale McLeod sound promising but if Nicholls, Macken and Jarvis are released I would be more excited about the thought of Nahki Wells. He is good friends with Kyle Lightbourne so surely he can put in a good word. Walsall haven't seen a forward line like those two since killer and Wilson or Jorge and junior. Happy days :D

I'd also like to see gangster brap brap McLeod here, been a bit sh*tty recently but a player that could no doubt be a corking signing if he fits in.

Unfortunately Nahki Wells has only just signed a 12 month contract extension. Can anyone see Uncle Jeff forking out a fee for a player?

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
Thanks for the info saddla - I didn't realise that about the contract extension.
I do get frustrated when I see clubs like Bradford and Oxford getting players like Andrew Davies and Marc Wilson. Surely if a player puts in a transfer request because they want to player at a higher level, clubs won't stand in their way though. I agree that Bonser won't release funds but if, as rumoured, we got £200k for Mannie Smith from Middlesbro, I would like to see the club invest this in young, hungry players.
Ultimately, if we have skilful, creative forward players, the fans will come back because the football we play will be entertaining.
If we get slow, journeymen, lumbering forwards (Parkin, Macken, etc) we are probably forced to play a certain brand of football because they won't have the pace to get 'around the back'.
Young players are fast but don't always have the brains to make the diagonal runs; old players like Macken are great (I would like to see him given another year on reduced terms to help out the younger players like Bowerman) but in my view, Smith desperately needs to freshen things up.
Fans like 'local lads that have done good' but they also like the prospect of exciting signings. I would happily take Davies and Wells from Bradford as a signal of intent (about twenty years ago, we signed a couple of players from a team in claret and orange for money and it transformed our team - both players were in the PFA team of the season). To add interest to the thread, can anyone name them (they would both get in my Walsall best XI from the teams I have watched in the last 30 years)?
