One of the best team performances I've seen in an international tournament and for a lot of the game they seemed to be playing within themselves. Can they keep it up from now on ? And is Wesley Sneijder the best player in the competition?

I reckon that Howard Webb in the Austria-Poland match made a brave, but right decision to award Austria a penalty in injury time. Mariusz Lewandowsky stupidly pulled down Sebatien Proedl (via his shirt) to concede the penalty. And the Penalty scorer Ivica Vastic gets lifelong supply of beer from a Vienna based brewery since he scored his country's first goal in Euro 2008!

The Italy vs Romaina match

An improved performance by both Romania & Italy (although not quite up to their high standards yet) with a great keeping performance by the GK Lobont. Gigi Buffon has been the only figure keeping Lo Azzuri in the past two games and he too made some great saves again to keep his country in the tournament. Not forgetting of course a world class penalty save to deny Adrian Mutu. It was a good end to end football, with some nice build up play in the match. Some good scoring chances from both teams, Italy were a bit unlucky with Luca Toni's goal disallowed for offside. Does anyone think that the decision to award Romania a penatly (before the penalty miss) was the right decision btw?

It wouldn't suprise me that Italy will sneak out out of the group. Their final match against the French should be tasty!

Holland vs France

What a totally superb team performance from The Dutch, who have been an absolute joy to watch so far. Wonderful & incisive counter-attacking football producing 3 brilliant goals (van Persie, Robben and Sneijder). Wes Sneijder scored an dandy of goal, even better than the one he scored against Italy.

Marco van Basten took one hell of a risk by taking off holding midfielder Orlando Engelaar for Robben & Dirk Kuyt (who worked very hard again) for van Persie - other coaches wouldn't have took that risk. But it worked brilliantly, just as France were threatning to get back in the game with a 10-15 minute spell of pressure (in the second half). The men in Orange responded postively, especially when Robben scored a minute later after Terry Henry scored a nice goal for Les Bleus. Another great team performance from the Oranjie, i can't help feeling in another match later on in the tournament they could peak too soon. Just like Argentina did in World Cup 06

As for France, what the hell was mystic Raymond Domenech thinking in terms of his tactics? For a match of this importance you need goals, so why leave two holding midfielders i.e. Claude Makelele & Jeremy Toulalan on the pitch? Why wasn't Malouda (who was quiet & disappointing again) taken off. Karim Benzema or Samir Nasri put on? Both of them who could have sparked some urgency into France's play?

It was really awful performance from France, who deserve to go home after the first two games. The only French player who played to his potential was Franck Ribery who kept on trying. Whilst his team mates didn't have the same desire & workrate, yet alone the same wavelength as him. This match and the Italy - Romania match was international football at it's very best! The Tuesday evening final group games will be very, very interesting it's whetted up my appetite that's for sure! :D

P.S. Agreed on the comments about the Polish coach Leo Beenhaker's whining about Howard Webb's decision in the match. He certainly wasn't complaining when the linesman didn't raise his flag for Poland's goal; when Roger Guerrero was a yard offside when the cross came in from Saganowski !

as there's a chance that Holland meets one of their groupe-opponents again in semi-final, i think they'll let Romania win, because you know that if the French or Italian would reach them, they'll certainly play better. So Marco.... start the game with 8 players and throw the blue teams out of the competition. I mostly watch Dutch TV if it's about football and about 3 years ago I saw an interview with Van Basten. They asked him what he wanted to reach in the WC '06 and he answered: I'm not thinking about this WC, I'm preparing the team for the EC in 2008. :!: :!: I really thought he wasn't serious at that time but after seeing 2 brilliant orange games, I believe the man!!!

Isn't the tournament structured so they can only face teams from their own group in the final?
Like last time when Portugal played Greece in their group and the final.

No, it's been changed this year. Teams from the same group CAN meet in the semis.

Thankfully Greece v Russia isn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. Still 0-0 but been a fair few chances.

I hate the BBC team with a vengeance. Only Shearer is tolerable. The in-game commentary is vomit inducing. I would kill and eat Motson within 45 minutes if the plane we were in crashed on a desert island.

I reckon he'd smash Keane's head in though. There's a huge Facebook group dedicated to those who agree with that notion.
