Don't know much about him but Hereford were very keen to keep him, offered him a big contract to stay. Unfortunately there's no news about how fast he can sprint, which is of course the only criteria to look for in a new player.

Unsure if we would have to pay a fee due to him having signed for Hereford on a free transfer from Hull City, if we do then I doubt it will be a high fee due to him not been a product of the clubs youth system.

Reports from the jungle telegraph in Hereford said they'd be expecting a fee. I agree that he'd be cheap.

Perhaps Smith is biding his time from committing himself to a midfield signing to see if Manton becomes available again

Now, you have to wonder if this is fake, in which case someone has spent a lot of time on it, or true;

Joe Lamlough tweeted

Just had Zizzi's with the boys @Adam7Chambers @nickyfeath18 @FebianBrandy @JBaxo #2for1 sorry bax chambo missed u out.

If true, James Chambers and Jordan Stewart are also here, from various tweets. JBaxo is Baxendale and nickyfeath18 is Featherstone.

They are all mentioned in my post on the previous page. Definitely legitimate. Only one I wasn't sure about was James Chambers but will try and find out.

I don't get it, why would we let a player train with us when he's got no intention on joining?

Once any player has sampled the fabulous breezeblock training facilities, bet they can't wait to be offered a place in a squad that will regularly play in front of 3,000 baying, loud, chanting and singing , faithfull, non moaning oap's down at the Bezza eh? (that drummer behind the duggout is a right pain, he woke the Manager up during a match once!) :D

Really? I cannot see the logic being letting some Scunthorpe doss about at your club for him to then just fudge off after he's had a nice fitness boost.

I see that Sam Mantom has been allocated the shirt number 27 for this season by the Tesco Bag Ladies.

So that there are enough players to make up a couple of teams for coaching purposes?

Dire reason if so.

Trial players that at least have some intention on joining.

Not necessarily for us though - they sometimes use the game time in any pre-season matches as a shop window for scouts of any watching club not just the one whose shirt they are temporarily wearing.

And Neil is right that it happens a lot re players training with teams but no intention of looking to join - think Darren Byfield did it with us once, and even remember seeing Bernie Wright (after he'd gone to Bradford) joining in on Wood Green school's playing field and along Walstead Road (in the bad old days before having our own training ground). Probably a mutual courtesy thing for players whose parent club is miles from where they actually live so not economic for them to make every session. For out of contract players - what have the club got to lose?

Whether they're 'keeping fit' or 'on trial' makes little difference really. If Stewart impresses, gets on with the other players and doesn't have offers coming in from elsewhere, he'd probably look at things differently.

Agreed.

Often players will say they are 'just training' to others rather than say they are 'on trial'. Players with relatively strong CV's hate the idea of having to go on trial.

I don't want to reveal too much in case I scupper the deal but I think that we may be about to announce a very good signing (where cash is involved). I believe he is the 'number 16' from the Telford game. If this comes off, it could be a MAJOR signing - not because he is a massive name (yet) but because he is a very very good player for Division One level. This would be a coup on a par with Ledesma IMHO. I really hope that this happens (but maybe it's the medication seeing as I've been on a drip for the last 48 hours so might be hallucinating. At one stage at hospital I was thinking of asking if Dean Smith could come and visit) - a cash signing would be a real shot in the arm but until it's signed, sealed and delivered,I'm not revealing names. Fingers well and truly crossed...

If you have been on a drip for 48 hours, then how the hell do you know the number 16 from last night, is this so called MASSIVE POTENTIAL signing. The number 16 was not bad but bloody hell he was by no way a superstar. There was very little quality on the pitch all night!!! We need a target man for sure, Brandy, Bowerman and Grigg won't even get a chance without a presence up top, who can hold the thing up!

Agree with the target man as well. I think with the likes of Butler who I rate very highly as a defender but when in possesion he is likely to play the long ball, no point in playing this if it goes to the likes of Brandy or Bowerman who wont win a header all night long.
If not a clue on the player, can we at least know what position he plays?

No one said he was on trial. Westlake played a friendly for Sheff Utd before they signed him (for a fee). Guy only came on to share some info, cut him some slack people.
