Brandy would be great - pace, pace and more pace - something we have been lacking for years up top.
I agree its been years, and pace gets you a long way at league one level.
However, im not sure on this one to be honest.

Alex Nicholls had pace........and look where that got us when he played up front.
Baffles me why a lot of football fans generally , and especially pundits , go on about forwards having pace , it's no use getting into goalscoring positions if you can't finish when you get there. I'd rather we had someone who could finish off a high percentage of the relatively small number of chances that we create.

Ashley Hemmings has tweeted people to follow Fabian Brandy, therefore i can assume why people would put two and two together

Ryan Jarvis's record when joining us was 28 goals in 113+75 apps
Fabian Brandy's record is 9 goals in 32+40 apps
Will Grigg's record is 8 goals in 29+35 apps
Not vastly different.

Predominantly at the level below, Hereford and Gillingham. Despite a familiar name, this isn't on paper a great signing.

Never really had a chance at any club he's been at. Has had a few bad injuries that has stop started his career, typical Walsall to take the gamble. I think he will be a good signing though, plenty of pace on the end of Flo's through balls.

Gotta say if any player looked at this website they would never sign. Fans too negative and dismissing people before they've kicked a ball for us. Do we want to encourage players to come or not?

At the same time though, you can't make up a team completely of wild gambles who are unproven and expect success. Smith should know that based on what he did last year - he signed too many players with neither the ability nor the track record required.
I appreciate a club like ours needs to gamble on players to an extent, but we need to limit the margin for error with some good, capable, proven signings too.

Yeah. I agree with that but some people on here are so negative on every player we are linked with and I don't think it helps our chances of signing anyone

Fabian I'm sure was with us as a youth player before signing for Man U during our 'relatiobship' a few years back

If a player is that bothered with some message board opinions then I think they're in the wrong profession.

Footballers follow the £££££££££ regardless what football fans say on forums. In Walsall's case they are just simply desperate.

There's worse than us out there. Loads worse. A few people moaning on UTS doesn't make Walsall a rubbish club, whatever the stayaways say.

As is Nicky Featherstone, formerly of Hull.

Wouldn't mind Featherstone in all fairness, was a good player at hereford and rejected their contract if i remember correctly...but this other chap? made 2 appearances for the mighty buxton last year, along with one appearance for hereford and one for doncaster, hardly set the world alight!

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
We'd have to pay a fee for Featherstone as he's under 24 and Hereford offered him a contract. However I can't see that it'd be much because the only 'development' they did with him was over the course of the last 18 months when he was aged 22-23; that's not really what the compensation is designed to cover.
Don't know much about him but Hereford were very keen to keep him, offered him a big contract to stay. Unfortunately there's no news about how fast he can sprint, which is of course the only criteria to look for in a new player.

Baxendale was there on loan. He's only 19 and worth a look at, if we arent intending him to be anything other than a back up or one for the future.

From the amount of players we've got on trial we could field a team just from them. :D :D :D :D

That will be the Hungarian one who is mates with Grof. Thomas Sowumni or something. Think he was the one we couldn't identify on the pics that came out a few weeks ago.
Also apparently got the following on trial:
Defenders - Jordan Stewart, Ben Purkiss and Joe Lamplough
Midfielders - James Baxendale (supposed to have looked good in training), Nicky Featherstone (likely to sign) and Ashley Sammons
Strikers - Thomas Sowunmi (played 10 times for Hungary), Febain Brandy (likely to sign according to his twitter), a young villa lad and a spanish lad who broke Holdens nose.
I think there are a few others too as heard reports that training has been 'interesting' with so many players involved  Open trial at Walsall. Hopefully we can find some gems!
Also saw on a report from Burton's game with Villa that they had a 20 year old centre-back play for them called Paul Downing who was released from WBA at the end of the season - it referred to him as having been on trial with Walsall since his release.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2012
Judging by Smith's comments today, we'll keep the trialists training with us for as long as possible before offering them deals. It sounds like it'll take other clubs showing an interest for us to put an offer on the table, which is an understandable but risky approach.
