it was me jolly who said numerous clubs offered two years and frown what I've heard today from a player is that groffy had the two year deals offered elsewhere but not number one where he was offered a one year deal here but defiantly first choice

Yeah, knew it was you NDO. Basically what I said then, that a guarantee of being number one for one year, is m ore appealing than a 2 years deal as 2nd choice. I'm hoping there would be a review after 6 months to add another year on if things are going well.

I think if Sadler is off then the quality of those being offered to sign are league 4 quality rather than a promotion challenge we will be holding up the league.

I mentioned him further up the thread I think. Don't know loads about him but has done well wherever he's been on loan, got some pace and an eye for goal so is definitely worth a contract offer. As he's young, raw and an inconsistent winger, he'll probably get about 1 and a half games before our fans start booing him, but there we go. He's been linked with us on Football Rumours so it could be a load of rubbish. That site also links us with Luke Summerfield, another player who's been mentioned on here. He'd be worth a punt too from what I've seen of him, similar type of player to Sam Mantom I think.

Wow. That must mean Peterlin was paying us to play. Summerfield was only on a one-year deal, he's been offered a new deal but has yet to accept.

On the topic of players going elsewhere - I see Chesterfield have signed Terrell Forbes. He's a solid League One defender, probably not on vast wages, only wanted a one-year deal. Exactly the sort of Smith/Lancashire replacement that we could have done with.

The stumbling block is always going to be wages. I've seen players perfectly good enough for league 1, players that we should be going after - the likes of Ashley Vincent, Lionel Ainsworth, Ashley Hemmings, Luke Summerfield, Gary Roberts, Craig Westcarr and so on being rejected by league 2 clubs for wanting too much money. Ainsworth and Vincent have failed to agree deals with Rotherham today who, by all accounts are going to be very well financially backed (new stadium, signing players on 3-5k p/w) because they were asking for too much money.

On a side note. Notts County have signed big Enoch Showumni, someone who I think we should have been sniffing around and rather surprisingly, Fleetwood Town have signed big Jon Parkin, another 1 we need to be investigating.

Pretty frustrating.
