Plymouth Argyle (A) Jan 1st, 3pm

Sun Dec 31, 2017 2:30 am

"There's no discouragement
Shall make him once relent
His first avow'd intent
To be a Pilgrim"

(Bunyan)

So here we are at the turn of the year having only picked up 2 points from the last 12, and we go to a transformed Plymouth Argyle who have seen a return of 8 points from their recent 12 available. From appearing to be relegation fodder for much of the early part of the season (rock bottom at the beginning of November) they are now 4 points clear of the drop zone, and only 2 behind us. Feelings against manager Derek Adams have been running high, as shown by the thread on their unofficial site (PASOTI) "Derek Adams has to go" which is currently on page 74 of a similar format to UTS. They have been wildly inconsistent however - it takes some doing to win at Bradford City and then lose 0-4 at home to Oxford United (in the same week) so all we can hope for is that more of their players have a "bad day at the office" than ours. Argyle's current League One form:

25 Nov Portsmouth (A) Lost 1-0
9 Dec Gillingham (H) Won 2-1
16 Dec Rotherham United (A) Drew 1-1
23 Dec Oldham Athletic (H) Won 4-1
26 Dec M K Dons (A) Won 0-1
30 Dec Blackpool (A) Drew 2-2

New Year, new tactics from Jon Whitney? Doubtful, but at least he will have the opportunity of selecting Amadou Bakayoko - but Florent Cuvelier isn't expected to be fully fit until later in January. Tyler Roberts' absence has (whatever the reason behind it) undoubtedly affected our results, and we may have to wait for the dust to settle on the January transfer window before we have any idea about how rosy or dire the rest of the season looks.

Prediction? Form definitely says that this is a home banker, and I can't see any real redeeming features even through my optimistic spectacles. It looks like a safe 2-0 result, and I just hope that Bakayoko (if selected) manages to contain his red mist, because he will no doubt be targeted by the opposition.

"Things can only get better" ......... a very happy 2018 to all readers and contributors of UTS !! :D

I fully expect us to win this, just to confound the form books, we always seem to pull one out of the bag just enough to shut the critics up for another few weeks :| so i will go for a 1-2 with baka and ozzy on the scoresheet with 180 saddlers making the long journey

Given that football is a funny old game this will most probably be the case!

I can see only a defeat after Saturday...the last 2 results will have damaged confidence so I think Plymouth will cruise it. Then the hard work begins of building yet another team to keep us safe this year and build for next.

No chance of anything other than a defeat, so 3-0 Plymouth.

I hope I'm wrong but I fear the worst at the moment.

Full respect to any Saddler who makes this trip.

Plymouth looked dead and buried earlier in the season but they have massively improved last two months so very difficult game. Graham Carey scored a great goal the other day for them, very talented player.

2-2.

It's veeeeeeery windy and sunny here on the coast. Might be a bit less blowy in Plymouth itself.

"I predict a riot" if only! Seems I have missed some spectacular rubbish from our infuriating players and manager, whilst suffering a heart attack on Boxing day!! Back home now though following the insertion of a stent in the major artery known as the 'widow maker' by the cardiac staff at Wigan General!
Had to stay alive (much to the disappointment of some on here :D :D  ) to witness the relegation scrap we will be in following todays 3-0 defeat.

All the best AM.

I had a heart attack just over 2 years ago at the grand old age of 45. Knocks you off your feet physically and mentally doesn't it? Listen to the medical advice, take the medication and when you've rested start a recovery plan. I have been going to Walsall Heart Care for the past 2 years and I'm fitter than ever (need to get back on it after the Christmas excesses), I'm sure there is a similar set up in Wigan, use it.

If you need any advice or just to talk let me know, Belg knows how to get hold of me.

We won’t lose. Today is another “Whitney just about keeping his job” game.

Obviously hope we win but we need to be put out of our misery, now.

CBA anymore, after attending both Christmas games and seeing the dross he is getting us to play i am honestly beyond hope of anything other than a drubbing.

2-0
3-0 0r more likely 4-0

Whatever the result we're stuck with him i think until we get into the relegation zone , then and only then will i think Bonser will do something.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery AM. Not sure if watching Walsall at the moment will speed your recovery unless we have a good win.

Home supporters seem to be going for a 2-0 home win.
