WALSALL RED CARD, 90 minutes :( (Bakayoko !!!!)
(Immediately afterwards) RED CARD Northampton Town (Crooks, 2 yellows)
Full time 2-1 .... evidently a bad day at the office for all concerned :( ... after taking the lead, too.

I would say Tyler Roberts? but he wasn't even on the bench today?. it's a shame really because by all accounts Baka was having one of his best games :|Ancient Moaner wrote:Welsh_Saddler wrote:WALSALL RED CARD, 90 minutes :( (Bakayoko !!!!)

Re: Northampton Town (A) Dec 16th, 3pm
Just got back from a trip up north...not as far north as AM's den but far enough away from knowing much about how we played however it is clear we are consistently inconsistent. Having read the reports in the E and S and on the BBC website it looks like were ok in the first half but didn't really perform in the second. Shame about Baka's red card ...we will miss him for 3 games but hopefully Tyler will be fully fit for next week.
Sorry to hear about Cuvelier as well...a bad foul from what I have read...I hope he will be ok....he showed us last week what a good player he is.

Re: Northampton Town (A) Dec 16th, 3pm
Arrived in Northampton at 1pm. You'd think with that timeframe I'd be o.k to make 3pm kick.
Caught a bus from the station towards the town centre which for some reason went through the high street, didn't stop and then went round the bus station before coming back on the same road it had just been on.
At this point it was half 1. Went into one pub (Fox and Quill) where after waiting for 10 minutes due to the girl behind the bar having to change a barrel because they were out of Strongbow was told it was 40 minutes wait for food.
Went into another pub down the road (at this point 1.50pm), asked the guy at the bar if there was a long wait, he said not long.....and food turned up at 2.20pm.
Managed to get to the bus stop at 2.35pm (was going to catch the 2.20pm bus)...and the bus to Sixfields finally turned up at 3pm. Despite it being advertised as a regular 5-10 minute service.
So yeah I didn't turn up in a good mood and was even further miffed to read the scoreboard from the hill to see it was 1-1 after 10 minutes.
I think I said before this game Northampton had some decent players. Long was playing for Bolton last season and took his second very well indeed and likes of Grimes and O'Toole in midfield have played well at higher levels. No way they're getting relegated.
Performance was atrocious though, easily the worst of the season (Wigan was similar but they're a top 2 standard team). Barely had a shot second half, certainly none on target.
I won't be going back to Northampton anytime soon that's for sure!

My local game. Went with a Cobblers fan who was telling me how bad they are. On the way back he said he never thought we were going to score. Our goal came from poor defensive play. It was pretty even til half time but we did nothing after the break. No creativity or flair at all from midfield. Yes, we were unfortunate to lose Flo but that risk is always going to he there, sadly. Ismail started brightly but faded. Some of our passing was atrocious. Northampton really were nothing special...with the start we had we should have gone on to win the game, their confidence was shot. Can't make a claim that we deserved a draw today. On this display we could easily be sucked into a scrap down the bottom - Christmas period is hugely important.

Like every other fan i really wanted us to win today, i wouldn't mind in the least if jhon proved me wrong, at the end of the day we all want to see walsall fc succeed, but this result just shows how very inconsistent we really are, and to lose to a team that are so so poor just goes to show how bad we can sometimes be, i don't think we will go down but i think we will be in the mix come the end of the season, that sometimes is as exciting as being in the play offs because it gives us something to play for :|

Walsall will finish where they are now. Nothing will change. Yeah they'll go on a poor run and people will get worried but then they'll start winning again.
There is little in this league from 10th downwards. I know Northampton are having a poor season but Matt Grimes, Long and John John O'troll or whatever he's called would all walk into the Walsall 11. I wasn't shocked by the scoreline today. You win a few games, pressure off and more comfortable in the league and then the intensity drops, Northampton were first to every second ball today.
What disappointed me more today (once I got there) was how poor and clueless the football was. Constant long ball hoofs to Bakayoko and bizarrely Ozzy. Joe Edwards was way short of fitness when he came on which was another problem and left the team overrun in central midfield against Northampton's central three.
A shame given from the reports here that in recent weeks the team have been playing a better passing game but today was certainly a step back into the dark ages.

The only result possible given their position and our form. Disappointing to read we're back to hoofball, but maybe that was JWs plan for the game rather than a lack of general direction.
