Blackpool (H) League One 14th Oct, 3pm
"Men may come, and men may go,
But I go on for ever" *
(Tennyson)
*With respectful reference to Mr. Stanley Matthews
An early (and brief) preview this week, as I'm just in the act of dashing off to Hospital for my Cochlear Implant surgery ... (having been referred to the CI team a little over 2 years ago). Blackpool are currently upper-mid table, 4 points ahead of us - their League One recent form:-
9 September Scunthorpe United (A) Drew 0-0
12 September Plymouth Argyle (A) Won 1-3
16 September Oxford United (H) Won 3-1
23 September Bristol Rovers (A) Lost 3-1
26 September Rochdale (H) Drew 0-0
30 September Southend United (A) Lost 2-1
Gary Bowyer was appointed Manager a little over a year ago, the club having got through 8 managers in the previous 3 years. At that time the sexual abuse scandal was linked to Blackpool, with former player Paul Stewart alleging abuse by Frank Roper who had been associated with Blackpool in the 1980's. This is yet another smear to add to those linked with the Oyston hierarchy at the club, owner Owen Oyston having been convicted of the rape of a 16-year old girl in 1996.
The current captain is well-known to Saddlers' fans in the form of Andy Taylor, although he seems to be appearing more on the bench than the field of play at the moment.
Will Jon Whitney go for plan A, B, C, D or even E for this game? Much will depend on the tiredness-in-the-legs factor that has to be brought into any calculation. The most positive aspect for him is that at least he should have a full squad from which to choose, and there is a groundswell of opinion that thinks that Tyler Roberts and Agyei jointly up-front should be a basic prerequisite to other considerations. As ever - wait and see.
Prediction? Let's see if we can achieve 2 rare events for this one .... (1) Not concede a penalty, and (2) Keep a clean sheet. A lot to ask, I know, but Shrewsbury Town were denied an open-play goal, and there's no reason to suppose that Blackpool are any better than the Sloppies, is there? So I will tempt fate and go for a 2-0 home win, with Tony Richards and Ken Hodgkisson chipping in with the goals. The referee to award Blackpool a penalty, but be over-ruled by an officious linesman.......

It gets harder to predict these results because we never know which team he is going to put out :| if he goes with Tyler and Agyei up front with Ozzy is for me one of the best forward lines in the league, so with this in mind I would go 2-0 but if he persists with backa then I can't see us getting much out of the game, I also think that with the mature performances of Kory he should also start

Looking for a win here.
We've just had the most god-awful run of games with the top 6 and Oxford.
Let's see what this team can do!

I reckon the score line will be similar to January 2016. Leading for ages. Late Blackpool goal (via a penalty this time though and not a rebounded free kick) - fudge off O'Driscoll.
1-1.
1-1.

Whitney will appeal to the European Court of Justice in order to put him in the front line for this match.....what possible other combination could there be?
Answers on a postcard please, addressed to Mr Motivator, c/o The Banks's's' stadium.... :?

We absolutely have to start Roberts and Agyei up top. We also need to drop Morris too.
If we do, 2-0. If not. 0-1.

Play Roberts and Agyei up front and sacrifice Morris. Go back to wing backs. Comfortable win.

That was one of the games that cost automatic promotion really, Blackpool were awful and went down that season.
Gary Bowyer done a top job though, promoted straight back and top half now with all the problems they have with the Oystons (look saddlers owners worse than Bonser  ) is not to be underestimated.

Comparing Bonser with the biggest lunatic you can think of isn't really a valid argument.

I think we will win this one....Chambers should be back after his fatigue and with a week on the training ground our set pieces should be better. UTS

I hope we can "tower" over them and "shore" up the defence

I would say it's the battle of the illumination towns and ours are better than then theirs, but due to the short-sighted tossers at Walsall Council that's no longer true

Fair point :D
I did think the 'Poolers would bring a few to visit an urbanised town with all our attractions and had a gander at our lightbulbs. But i forgot that the council have switched them off :(

Tyler Roberts on the bench.
Just checked and Bakayoko got his fifth yellow last week. One of those was in the paint pot trophy so assume it dosen't count for league games.

Elsewhere ... Bury 0 Bradford City 1 (8 min)
Wigan Athletic 1 Southend Utd 0 (9 min)
Portsmouth 1 M K Dons 0 (11 min)
Charlton Athletic 1 Doncaster Rovers 0
In the important game, Blackpool have had 5 dangerous attacks and 3 corners in the first 7 minutes. We haven't had anything in either category. :(
