The Latics have had 2 players booked for time wasting so they must feel as though we are the more likely to score, time for a forward substitute uh uh plot fails.

Walsall 2nd yellow card (probably for excessive celebration?)

90 minutes +++ ... substitutions by JW
A third Walsall yellow card.....
Full time, and a 2-1 win has bought Jon Whitney some time ....... perhaps......

Very important win, especially for Whitney.
Not a huge Whitney fan but always delighted with a Saddlers victory.

Well a good win in the end, and what a last gasp save from Gillespie :D that lad is fastly becoming a bit of a hero, certainly looks like being a firm favorite with the fans

In the end a good result and hopefully lead to better things and not paper over the cracks.

He was most certainly a hero at Bury, not many goalkeepers can keep out two penalties in one match (despite the 2nd one hitting the upright first!).
Great win, most desperately required (for both all of us and Whitney too, regrettably his tenure is secured for now at least.

Wasn't there but heard very good reports from that second half. Important win that. To think some wanted to sell Oztumer

Good win. Could've had four. Imagine if we had a striker.
Easily the better team though and deserved win.

Well technically we have 3, but 2 ain't very good and 1 has to prove himself  but i know what you mean, if we had someone half decent we would have won quite convincingly today.El_Nombre wrote:Good win. Could've had four. Imagine if we had a striker.

Good stuff. Heard good reports from lots and confident that when Whitney adds a few more players we'll be a bit more of a force (as well as giving the youngsters some much needed experience). Crucially the players Whitney has brought in sound good!!

A good win in the end. We played well in the second half and with decent striker might well have scored many more. I don't see us conceding many with the 3 big lads at the back and a reasonable goalkeeper . Well done lads and JW.

Re: Oldham Athletic, League One 12th August 3pm
First goals on IFollow, first win, and first half to forget, second better, but let's be honest. It couldn't be worse than first. And striker is not needed, but at least two midfielders and/or wingers. Baka, Jackson, Candlin will be enough, when one striker will be used. Sometimes lack of option upfront was too glaring. Long ball, Baka wins a header and no one else is near to help or press opponent. Defence, except one mix-up, was solid. Only need time to gel better. But midfield? Lightweight, ill-manned, bereft of offensive ideas. Oldham was a nut to crack. Tough one, but not showing much. So no defensive values were needed, but offensive. Flo would be shining today, probably, but he wasn't playing.

Re: Oldham Athletic, League One 12th August 3pm
First things first, Oldham were pretty poor. Devlin was MotM for me, some very good runs and nice crosses, closely followed by Gillespie with some very good saves (especially the last minute one!). Cutler really has an eye for good keepers. Defence was a bit shaky although I suppose that's what happens when you put a 20 year-old loanee straight into the team without enough training sessions to learn the system. I think it'll be a solid backline with more time.
Baka had some nice moments but really should've got at least one with some of his chances, particularly the open goal he missed. The biggest thing I took away is that we actually improved massively after half time for a change, instead of shrivelling away so well done to JW for that.
JW has that handy knack of getting results when there's pressure on, which is a good trait for a manager. More performances like the second half and the fans will be a lot more supportive.

To prove how bad Oldham were in comparison to ourselves, putting away the 2/3 sitters we missed would've made the score line telling.
Great 2nd half performance, proper entertainment.

Bakayoko missed twice from a combined total of about 6 yards. However in the second half he seemed to relish the target man role.
The idiots balling at chambers need to realise he is passing sideways because no one is moving. He was utter class today an all he got was abuse. Mongs.
We utilised the wing backs properly in the second half and they played well, nice to have some players who can cross for a change. Thought the midfield all played well second half. Edwards was my MOTM, Mr dependable, and always moving unlike the rest.
Oztumer struggled with the long ball all game but put a real shift in. We have to keep hold of him
Oldham were absolute drivel though, so lets not get too carried away. Their keeper was appalling.

Re: Oldham Athletic, League One 12th August 3pm
Oldham were really bad and we were just as bad as them first half, but I have to give Whitney credit for that second half which was fantastic. Devlin MOTM, felt both the wing backs were good in different ways. Devlin was direct and pacey, Leahy was technical and played a few good passes and of course did the long throw into the box for our winner. Donnellan looked okay too.
Also have to give credit to the club for their approach to the badges coming off shirts, brought it in and then immediately exchanged it no questions asked. Fantastic service.

Just the tonic.
Thought we played some good stuff for 30 mins, then they scored from a well worked play.
A bit cagey after that, but in the second half we went for them and they had very little to offer.
Could / should have been 2 or 3 up well before the late goal.
:D

Really entertaining game
Credit to Whitney for getting a great second half out of them and coming from behind
Positives for me
Devlin's swashbuckling play
We are now land of the giants at attacking set pieces and Edwards and ozzy can get a lot of goals feeding off the loose balls in space in the box because it takes all of their defence to cope with our physicality
Ozzy - you know you always gave a chance with him on the pitch hope we can keep him
I enjoyed that

Fair to say they'll be occupying one of the relegation spots so only three to worry about?
Although they could sack Sheridan now and re-appoint him in April as that tactic seems to have worked a treat for them in the last few seasons.

I think a major bollocking must have been handed out at half time, Baka particularly was being very lazy first half not challenging for the ball or chasing the man down.
Positives for me we're the defence with the lad from WBA adding much needed quality ,he did everything with real ease and rarely looked under pressure.
Striking options are still a huge negative , sorry but Baka doesn't cut it for me. Address that and we may just be ok.

Massive relief when the winner went in after a much improved second half performance.
Great to get 3 points but Oldham were truly dire.
3 decent signings still required if we are to maintain our L1 status.

Great result and a good (second half) performance. We won't have much worse teams than that down the Bonk's'ss's this season though.

Re: Oldham Athletic, League One 12th August 3pm
good win today and coming from 1-0 down shows some spirit in the team.
Oldham were about as poor a team as ive seen down bescot for many a year so todays result was very important and much welcoming.
any team finishing below Oldham will be relegated so nice to pull ourseleves away which is psychological in the first few matches of the season.
now just to get rid of our poor away record and who knows could be top 6 come next Saturday evening!!

What? What on earth gave you confidence in bakayoko today?
