Wragbyred I thought I was the only Saddler in Lincoln (I should have guessed from your name). I too am looking forward to the locality of this one and a bit of banter with my imps work colleagues.

What are we thinking the away following will be like?

Phil, where abouts are you in Lincoln? I don't work in the town so won't have to face anything on Monday.
However, as I work in Donny, so there's 2 weekends I'm not looking forward to!

I live in the West End off Carholme Road. My Walsall following generally is any away ground within 75 miles of Lincoln so Donny, Rotherham, Peterborough etc will all been visited this season. This one against Lincoln I am looking forward too even if its a friendly can't see us winning though.

The bunting will be out in great quantities tonight...Jackson has actually scored a goal! Had Lincoln City gone in for half time when he scored?

I see the new defenders can defend corners just as well as the old guard...two Lincoln City corners = two goals.

Well, we are up against the Conferences Ex finest, now new Fourth Division newcomers what can we expect from our shambolic set up?
Get the feeling that our turnout at Bury Might be a bit thin on the ground! :(

Hardly our full team though...indeed a very youthful lot...surprising for the last friendly?

But according to our great leader, chest-thumper extraordinaire. we have so much strength in depth! Well, it don't look like: we've lost to 2 non-league sides and a League 2 side, which would indicate that our much-vaunted kids are no better than non-league level. My assessment of the 1st team squad:

Guthrie - Lg 2 standard; Liam Roberts - Conf;
Devlin - Lower Lg 1; Kinsella - Conf; Leahy - Mid Lg 1;
Cock-Moll - Lg 2; Williams - Top Lg 1; Guthrie - Lg 2; O'Connor - Mid Lg 1; Korey Roberts - Conf; Preston - Conf; Chambers - Mid Lg 1; Cuvelier - Mid Lg 1; Edwards - Mid Lg 1, Flanagan - Conf; Morris - Lg 2; Kouyhar - Conf; Bakayoko - Conf; Jackson - Conf; Peters - Conf; Candlin; Lg 2; Oztumer - Top Lg 1.

So, my assessment of the current squad is Mid-Lg 2. We don't have enough firepower to make any impact in Lg 1 this season. Not good enough!

Sorry, that should be Gillespie - Lg 2 standard, not Guthrie

Having read the match report this Ginnelly fella (managed by a decent manager not a clown) sounds just like the type of player we need now! :roll: Oh wait...

Depressing.

Interesting rankings there SADDLERTD,,,,..... but younger players can improve you know and they will need to if we are to have anything like a successful season. In any event we should get behind them and give them our support....they will need that as well as constructive criticism.

WALSALLONE - these rankings reflect my opinions of each of the players as they are NOW - I'm sure that one or two of the young players such as Candlin have the potential to play at a higher level. Others such as Flanagan, Kinsella and Preston will probably never be League 1 standard. The acid test for the Walsall players is: if they were all put on the transfer list now, how many would actually get offers from teams who play at a higher level than mid-table league 1? Oztumer, Wilson, Leahy? Not many. I agree with you about getting behind the lads - I will definitely do that, but I think it's going to be a long hard season of struggle this season based on the pre-season games and the last 2 months of last season. I think supporters have been short-changed - again.

He had 1 good game away at MK. He was useless apart from taking the odd good set piece.

Quite true, we certainly didnt get the best out of him. Was this partly due to the lack of confidence shown in him though?

No, he had enough chances, he just wasn't good enough. Don't forget, he was playing against a pretty poor side today. We should be able to do better than Ginnelly.
