Leyton Orient

Wed Apr 19, 2017 11:17 pm

The vexatious problem of foreign ownership of football clubs ... it's reported that Leyton Orient's players haven't yet been paid for March, and their April salaries are due to be paid in a few days' time. Appeals from the club to Italian owner Franchesco Bechetti have not brought any response, and on top of that Orient are facing the realistic prospect of relegation from League Two. And this is the club that not so long ago was well placed (with ourselves) in League One. A recent winding-up order brought by our friends at HMRC has resulted in unpaid tax being settled, but there are other creditors queuing up.......

We may have our grumbles about Uncle Jeff, but there's a lot to be said for financially sensible management.

Agreed.....................good job we're in safe hands.

Can't imagine how Orient got into this mess

Ownership of Brisbane Road was transferred to the Barry Hearn / Matchroom pension fund .

Orient then pays rent to pension fund ........what can go wrong ?

Then the ungrateful Orient fans start moaning ..............

"This has raised alarm from the Leyton Orient Fans' Trust (Loft), because such separations from their grounds in recent years have taken several clubs to the edge of ruin.

Then Barry Hearn puts the club up for sale , and eventually some foreign geezer with more money than sense comes in , buys the club , ploughs millions into it , realises he's onto a loser , and gives it neck.

Hey kids,, we need this bloke back...............https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etKD36cwqDY

Hearn acquired the ground in very, very different circumstances to Uncle Jeff.

I personally believe ploughing millions into a club with a small fan base very rarely works.

Bournemouth being the exception as they currently have a number of Billionaire's investing in the club

Mad to think they were just a penalty shoot out (and indeed were leading that shoot out) away from the championship.

If they'd won that I doubt Hearn would even have sold up at that moment so possibly would've averted this catastrophe.

Mad just three years later they're about to go non league. As much as league one year in year out can get a bit tiresome I'd hate that sort of rapid decline into non league.

Spare a thought for Torquay, and to a lesser extent York, fans too - both in real danger of going into the Vanarama Regional leagues.
