Millwall (A) League One, Feb 1st 7.45pm
A Wednesday trip to The Den rather than the usual Tuesday, following Millwall's F.A.Cup game on Sunday against Watford. My wishful thinking says that their Cup progress may cause them to ease off a bit in their League One efforts .... as if !!! Our current position in the top half of the table sees us only 2 points behind Millwall, and although they're unbeaten in their last 6 League One games they have actually lost one more than us (because they have a winning habit as opposed to our draw performances). Danger men are Steve Morison and Lee Gregory - shackle those two and we may have a chance!! Recent League One form:
21 Dec Charlton Athletic (H) Won 3-1
26 Dec Swindon Town (H) Won 2-0
30 Dec Gillingham (H) Won 2-1
2 Jan AFC Wimbledon (A) Drew 2-2
14 Jan Charlton Athletic (A) Drew 0-0
21 Jan Bradford City (A) Drew 1-1
Millwall are not unbeatable at The Den - this season they've lost to Bolton Wanderers, Rochdale, and Shrewsbury Town. Having said that, it does look as though we will need to score to get anything out of this game, as Millwall have only failed to score at home in League One games twice (Bolton Wanderers and AFC Wimbledon). In the absence of any free-scoring Saddlers' strikers we may well have to rely on the marauding McCarthy (again) to keep us in touch. Jon Whitney is reported to be spending tomorrow (deadline day for the transfer window) glued to a hot telephone - having missed out on signing winger Danny Rowe despite making a cash offer  . It remains to be seen whether any new faces appear by Wednesday.
On the positive side, we have scored 10 goals in our most recent 3 League One Games, so perhaps it is the defence that needs a little attention. Bury's 3rd goal on Saturday gave the appearance of being somewhat soft, even if the scorer did manage to get enough of a slight touch on the cross to flummox Etheridge. My prediction for Bury was a 1-1 draw and although I got the score wrong then, I will stick with the same forecast for this one. Our quality on the pitch has demonstrably improved in the last month or so as the squad really have got to know each others' strengths - and if the same basic formation is adhered to, the results can improve further.
But if JW signs 4 new players tomorrow that could all change!

Our most beloved referee Darren Deadman is in the middle for this one. Anything could happen!

Ah, Millwall away. A fixture I have yet to make.
Can't say the likely welcoming committee given to visiting fans at the New Den makes me want to traipse down for this one. Or, with their "community club" endeavours of the years is this harsh as a reputational tag still to hang around their necks?
When was the last time we played on a Wednesday BTW?

Looking at the way they tore a new hole out of a decidedly woeful Watford reserve team on Sunday, I can't see us getting anything from this encounter, no matter how improved our recent performances have been, a regulation away defeat I'm afraid. probably 1-3.
However, play like we did in those frantic second half moments at Bury for a full 90 minutes, we might scrape a 1-1 draw, which would be an achievement.

Millwall away. Hmmmmm??? We usually don't get any change from this fixture.
If they play Carl Emberson? I'll go for:
8,350 (432 Saddlers)
3-3
Millwall
Simeon Jackson
Jamie Vincent
Darren Byfield
Walsall
Steve Claridge
Sam Parkin
Peter Sweeney (two in two games!! he's on fire/much travelled)

September 23rd, 2015 we lost at home to Chelsea 4-1 in the league cup.
Last Wednesday league match was March 5th, 2014 when we lost away to Coventry 2-1.

Re: Millwall (A) League One, Feb 1st 7.45pm
Looking forward to my first visit to the Den.
I would take a 1-1 draw all day long, although we really need all three to keep that tiny chance of a play off push alive.
Dare to dream
Interested to see how we line up, I would like to see real emphasis put on attacking down our left flank as they have no doubt clocked our goal machine of a right back and will concentrate on him. A part of me thinks Whitney will twist and change the formation up for this one.. not sure how to feel about it!
Cuvelier to play them off the park, with Gregory scoring for them.

Defence will need to be much better than Saturday to get a result.
IMO Millwall have the best front 4 in the division in Morison, Gregory and O'Brien and Onidemya out wide although possible they'll rotate given they only played on Sunday.
Would be tempted to being Laird back for this and maybe go to a back 4.
2-1 defeat.

Gut feeling with this game suggests Ozzy on the bench with maybe Dobson starting to try and make us hard to beat and then try and nick a goal and defend it. In all honesty as much as I see this as a negative tactic and not fun to watch, the best teams and teams who want to compete for promotion have to know when to park the bus!

Re: Millwall (A) League One, Feb 1st 7.45pm
I think Whitney will revert back to a flat back 4 for this one with Jackson as the sole striker.
Team:
Etheridge
McCarthey, O'Connell, O'Connor, Laird
Chambers
Cuvellier, Osbourne, Morris, Edwards
Jackson
Subs
McGillivray, Preston, Randall, Oztumer, Bakayoko, Dobson, Makris
(nice looking bench though!)

A good performance and a draw will do nicely. Would be ecstatic with a win but I can't see it happening

The only difference being on the subs bench, where new signing Will Randall-Hurren replaces Roberts.

Thoughts of the Alamo spring to mind..............................
Crikey... Steve Morrison, Lee Gregory and Ben Thompson all have shots saved/missed within a few minutes..it reads like a Barnsley attack from last years debacle.....what have we got? Lancky Bakybiro! Surely the management should see where our problems are? Whilst our defence hangs on for grim death, we have the attacking force of a schoolgirls under 12's squad! Hoping that our defenders, if not already dying of exhaustion, can sprint upfield to slot home an equaliser or two!

Not quite, that was the blunts away. Sounds like we're trying to absorb the pressure and creat something on the break. Tough game imo

In the category of "Dangerous attacks" Millwall currently outnumber us by 12 to 4 if that's any indication!!! (Source - Betfair)

Half time 0-0 .... not wishing to put the kiss of death on it, but it sounds as though we were coming more into the game the more it went on. Only 2 shots on target, and they were both ours (Cuvelier and Bakayoko). Keep 'em out, lads!!!!!!

Yes. Then you end up with a pastry complexion.
