Port Vale (A) League One Boxing Day, 3pm
Off to Burslem for the Saddlers' faithful, to face a Vale team apparently on a bit of a slide having won only 1 of their last 10 League One games. Their Portuguese manager Bruno Ribeiro was appointed in June this year, and any honeymoon period seems to be over, with message board comments along the lines of "wacky tactics" a common sight. Upon taking up his duties Ribeiro appointed Ben Purkiss as joint captain, but after 12 games Purkiss was dropped even though not injured - the Chairman has confirmed that "there has been an issue between Purkiss and Ribeiro", we shouldn't expect to see our former player in action on Monday unless they've kissed and made up. Vale are just one place below us in the table, same points but -4 goal difference - there also seems to be a degree of ill-feeling towards us with memories of our most recent encounter at Vale Park fresh in their minds ... Downing, Bradshaw, Forde (2) and Mantom contributed to a 0-5 result that day, but as we don't have those players any more it's a bit of a red herring! Vale's recent League One form:
12 Nov Fleetwood Town (H) Won 2-1
19 Nov Charlton Athletic (A) Lost 2-0
22 Nov Oldham Athletic (H) Drew 2-2
26 Nov Shrewsbury Town (A) Drew 0-0
10 Dec Northampton Town (H) Lost 2-3
17 Dec AFC Wimbledon (A) Lost 4-0
JW's team came back from the doldrums of losing at home to Oldham Athletic, putting in what was reported as a much better performance with Bakayoko and Jackson up front against Bradford City to at least gain a point. Isaiah Osbourne has evidently overcome his injury, and we can only hope his performance boosts the side further - he has been quoted as saying that the play-offs are certainly not out of sight, and that's the level of optimism that will do us no harm whatever (hopefully). Jon Whitney has spoken recently of his desire to attract "experienced players" in the January window, and it follows that some of the starting XI on Boxing Day may well feel they are playing for their places. Let's see.........
Whatever Boxing Day brings spare a thought for poor old Bury, who are away at Fleetwood Town. They last won a league One game on September 27th (MK Dons away 1-3) and sat 2nd in the table. Since then they've lost 12 games on the run, and are in the bottom four. It's a funny old game......
Prediction for the Saddlers? Based on nothing in particular in terms of logic I'll suggest a 0-2 win with goals from Amadou and Andreas (it has to happen some time!!) :D

After the improvement v the Bantams (2nd half anyway) we will no doubt hope and even expect more of the same on Boxing Day... That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Purkiss playing purely to inject an extra dimension to the game - either way, I'm feeling this will be a tight affair and am going for a 1-1 with Bako on target for us.. Port Vale are on page 9 of their match thread we are on post 2.
Any way after the humiliation last season I think this will be a real battle.I'd love us to win but I think 1-1 with Ozzy scoring for us,anyway really looking forward to this one.

Depends on how drunk I am to whether I make it... 0-0 bore draw with players throwing up on the pitch

Anyone know why we are away for both Xmas holiday games, missing on potentially bumper gates?
Thought it was traditional to play one home and one away so everyone gets a share of the revenue. Or maybe my memory is deceiving me.

All done by computer now not as clever as a man with a bit of paper at working it out.

Usually works out that a team is either home on Boxing day or New Years day or in the case of this season January 2nd.

Re: Port Vale (A) League One Boxing Day, 3pm
Watching that video of our absolute battering of Fail in May makes me think they will be up for this one, even if their own form is currently very poor. They have also generally been strong at home too, so it will be anything but easy.
That said, and based on our second half performance against Bradford, I have a feeling we'll sneak it 1-0, with Etheridge pulling off a number of fine saves and Jackson getting a late winner for us.
Attendance around 5,500, including 800-1,000 of us.

Notice Toner is missing altogether, is this a prelude to a return to his home club, and a visit to the jobcentre shortly afterwards?

Great a goal, boy would three points be a welcome Cringle pressy for us all today, lets keep up the momentum lads.
Do we have any forwards? Aren't they the ones who are supposed to score the goals?
We'm so high up the league presently it's nosebleed time!

Walsall's final substitution - Kieron Morris on for Florent Cuvelier
Bristol Rovers 4 Coventry City 1 now (86 min)
Lots of pressure on the Walsall goal at the end, but final score 0-1. Well done the lads !!! :D
