Played well today. Entire team had good performances but I thought the two centre halves, Osbourne, Chambers and Flo were all especially good.
Vale are awful

Re: Port Vale (A) League One Boxing Day, 3pm
Very good away display from the whole team. Osborne the pick in the first half and Preston in the second. Overall I'm delighted with the progress Matt Preston has made this season, he had the Port Vale great big Gaylord striker in his pocket for the whole game, an excellent performance and what we have needed for such a long time since Butler left, a dominant centre half who can deal with balls lumped up. He can only get better.
The team were set up well with Cuvelier and Osborne were far too good for the opposition in the first half and the Bakayoko/Jackson combination upfront at last gave us some stability in attack.
Second half we could have increased our lead on a number of occasions which eventually led to panic amongst a surprising number of our fans who were panic stricken every time the ball was lumped into our box despite the ball being either comfortably headed away by O'Connor or Preston. One shot on target by Port Vale in the whole of the second half sums up the effectiveness of our defending.
Overall - 8/10 for the team, 7/10 for the fans [too much negativity from some] 1/10 for the entire conurbation known as Stoke on Trent [the 1 point for the roads leading out of there.
Well done Whitney

This formation makes us a lot more effective and certainly hard to beat.
Osbourne makes a huge difference the bloke really is class (when fit).
Vale are going down, I haven't seen a team that poor for some time..

Hardworking display and very organised which you gave to give credit to the manager and his staff for - is sharps having an effect here
With chambers and Edwards doing sterling work back in the box clearing up the Loose ball
Man of the match was osbourne who controlled it but laird came close with a good goal and goal saving tackle
Osbourne shouldn't have been booked the 1st caution was a good tackle he never touched the bearded fairy number 8 who did the dying fly every ten minutes and justifiably got booed by saddlers fans every time he touched the ball
Bit worried about Jackson who should have scored at least one of the several chances he had - needs one to go in off his backside
Poor ref but Felt comfortable all afternoon in choke on stench but we were playing a poor side

Sounded similar to the game in Milton Keynes so guess the fans were worried they'd be another 90 +4 minute equaliser.

my first away trip since chesterfield in September was nice to blow away the cobwebs
fantastic performance today against a terrible port vale side that were there for the taking.
pity we couldn't get a few more goals but id take 1-0 every match.
just heard the port vale manager has resigned maybe not competing with the mighty saddlers was enough for him to buggar off

Was a tense last 5 minutes, especially as the action was at t'other end and you couldn't be sure how close their efforts were. Somebody put in a tremendous block just as Deadly Deadman was blowing the final whistle.
Looking back it was relatively comfortable but there was always the "Deadman decision" to worry about. Is there anything better than an away win on Boxing Day? Just frustrating we missed some good chances to get that 2nd goal!!

Re: Port Vale (A) League One Boxing Day, 3pm
It's a fine win.
It confirms our bang averageness in this league as our record is now very symmetrical. Last ten games have seen 4 draws, 3 wins and 3 defeats. Our season comprises 9 draws, 7 wins and 7 defeats.
There are a couple of things this season that probably make us worse than average. These are the cup defeats including a home defeat against a non-league side and the fact we've been comprehensively beaten more often in the league than we have comprehensively won -as evidenced by our negative goal difference.
But a fit Osbourne, a resurgent Flo and possibly a decent signing or two in January mean that there maybe something better than average ahead in the second half of the season.
Looking forward to my first visit to The Kassam on Saturday to see if we can go into 2017 with a positively not quite symmetrical league record.

A win 3 points and a clean sheet away from home can't ask for anything more.
