Bristol Rovers (A) League One, Tues 13th Sept 7.45pm
This is the re-arranged match following the postponement of the September 3rd fixture due to international call-ups. The original fixture was on the schedule of chester_saddler and myself to attend, but I'll be in Bulgaria next week which explains the early appearance of this thread!
Rovers are back in League One after a brief flirtation with the Conference and League Two. Their Director of Football when Rovers sank into the Conference was John Ward (Yes, our John Ward!), who was promptly sacked at the time - the manager at the time was Darrell Clarke, and he is still in that position. Rovers' long history has seen them based at 8 different grounds  , the current one being The Memorial Stadium at Horfield, which they originally shared as tenants with Bristol Rugby Club but purchased it after a couple of years. Current form isn't quite up-to-date, but it will give you some idea:
11 Aug Cardiff City (H) EFL Cup, Won 1-0
14 Aug Oxford United (H) League One, Won 2-1
17 Aug Bolton Wanderers (H) Lost 1-2
20 Aug Southend United (A) League One, Drew 1-1
23 Aug Chelsea (A) EFL Cup, Lost 3-2
30 Aug Reading U-21 (H) EFL Trophy, Lost 2-3
Rovers currently occupy 22nd place in the table, a point behind ourselves, but they've played 1 or 2 games fewer than anyone else so it's possibly a false indication.
You may all predict away - I'm not risking it at this early stage!!

Are they still gasheads or is their current ground miles from the gasworks site?

The nickname of "The Gas" did indeed come from the gasworks which was adjacent to their long-term ground Eastville, which was their base from 1897 to 1996. The new ground (Horfield) can't be too far away from where Eastville was - both situated North or North-West of the city centre, but as Eastville was demolished in 1998 it's hard to tell. :D
Eastville also functioned as a greyhound racing stadium, the last meeting being in 1997.

i think this result will be easier to predict after our result in northampton. but again on current form i will at the moment go with a 2-0 to them. they are traditionally a big side so i expect them to cause us problems at the back :|
hi welsh. hope you have a great time in Bulgaria. i went over there in 2005 on a land buying trip. ended up getting a piece next to the Blacksearama golf course overlooking the cost in Topola. we stayed in a place called Balchick, nice little village. and we ended up going to a place called Albina for a bit of nightlife. lovely country and lovely friendly people

I really hope for Whitney's sake we get a win here, even a draw would be a bad result considering our run, a win is needed. I hope parking is easier than Bristol City anyway.
My team would be:
Etheridge
Edwards
O'Connor (or Preston if he is still injured)
Toner
Laird
Chambers
Dobson
Morris
Oztumer
Makris
Bakayoko
McCarthy should be 4th choice centre half now, he has been awful since Wimbledon. Don't think he has won a header all season and is full of mistakes, Preston is miles ahead on current form.

Really can't see whichever back 4 drawn out of the hat being able to handle Taylor. 2 goals at the weekend so he's stepped up to this level.
Preston would be a logical pick for this game...so will probably remain on the bench.
If he plays maybe a 0-0.

Or in goal perhaps? with Etheridge on the wing, Jackson & Morris at full back, Kinsella anywhere, because he's such a waste of space anyway (why does he keep picking him?) Makris, Osbourne, Otzumer, Bakybiro all bench warming, whilst 3/4 lads from the junior ranks thrown in as midfield, to aid McArthy up front as a new strike force with Dobson............Moussa mountain to come on as super sub on the 89th minute, to claw back the 3 goal deficit............... It's called 'Whitney think'.
Go on lads we can win this!!

Am I correct in thinking that are yet to score a goal away from home this season ?
After witnessing Saturday's performance I can't say I'm very confident, I'm hoping for a win

You are correct. We've yet to score away this term. Just read that on the neatly compiled official match preview.http://www.saddlers.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/bristol-rovers-v-walsall-match-preview-3304912.aspx
Watching the highlights of Rovers' match against Rochdale, they are yet another League One team strong at set plays & in the air. So I can't see us keeping a clean sheet. We'll need to take our chances, like if we'd done on Saturday we'd have come away with an undeserved 2-3 win, like if my Uncle when through painful reconstructive surgery he'd be my Auntie.
Would like to see Preston in for McCarthy and Makris back on the left-side. Fear the worst without Osbourne, but hoping the Saddlers surprise me.

At least Whitney has addressed the home vs away balance. We are now awful at both!
As for this game, who knows could be 3-0, could be 4-4 could be 1-6. Either way at least we have a full strength team to pick from, oh wait....

It looks a pretty attacking lineup to me.
Hoping we can score more than them?
That defence is very leaky

Same as the play offs then....
Whitney playing all his strikers/wingers and hoping it works. In fairness it did v bottom half teams in the run in last season.

Anyone know what the weather conditions are down in Brizzle country?
We are currently suffering the worst September thunderstorms the North West has seen for a couple of centuries!
Man City's Euro match in doubt! :?

What? Walsall score away from home? 0-0 has to be our best bet, we will need at least a point, cus we will most certainly be in the relegation zone come 5 on Saturday!

It'll happen tonight, should we go down by three goals.

this game could end up seeing about 6-7 goals  it looks like whits has put all his eggs in one basket. if we don't take our chances we will be in trouble. because the defense looks poor. strange that he has dropped the one player that shone on saturday though :|
